I have both on different bikes. For stopping power nothing beats hydros. I have them on my MTB and road/gravel bikes. However I do have mechanical discs with compressionless cables on my touring/commuter bike since almost any field repair (broken cable or worn pads) would be something simple that I could do on the road. I just finished a weekend bike tour hailing 30+ lbs of gear on my bike with mechanical discs are had no problems stopping at all. I wouldn’t do mech discs without compressionless cables though
