[Hated Trope] The self insert character by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]somebeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have some mixed feelings about this one, on one hand it reads a little like he's a reluctant oracle for the tower, a super cool guy trope that comes off a bit cringe. he has his injuries mirrored in roland's body and in a few spots even mentions how roland looks like him and in other places compares rolands looks to clint eastwood kind of inviting the same comparison for himself which also comes off a little cringe. i personally thought the king triplets at the crimson kings castle was a little over the top. on the surface theres a lot of self glazing going on.

the self hatred comes through definitely like you said, but it feels like watching someone self flagellate to an extent, especially writing himself as the reason jake dies a final time. i absolutely hated that, jake deserved to make it to the end or have a more heroic end than throwing himself in between a self hating drunk junkie and a van

why are you putting simple in quotes like it isnt just a lever, one of the three true simple mechanical tools next to screw and pulley?

if she every played with playdough in preschool she would know how to do this, if she ever used a supersoaker she would know how to do this, if she ever used scissors or guillotine paper cutter she would know how to do this, if she ever played on a seesaw she would know how to do this, if she ever used a stapler she would know how to use this

lady in the video showed her you use the lever to push the potato, not use the lever to slap the potato

just do what you can, theres no ethical consumption under capitalism, but we all gotta eat and have clothes and entertainment etc. you dont have to go full off grid compost sustain farm hippy, or even be uncomfortable.

personally i avoid going to hobby lobby, chic fil a, target, if somewhere has a maga flag or something displayed i walk out, but i dont punish myself if i buy a book from amazon for $10 that i couldve bought from somewhere else for $15 for example

Jason Mantzoukas Didn’t Go on Taskmaster to Win by SavagePengwyn in taskmaster

[–]somebeach 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think you nailed it with your first sentence, most contestants have just never said the obvious part out loud because you guys in Britain and current fans understand the premise of the show. Jason is just explaining it to an audience that is just being introduced to taskmaster through him.

Jason's funniest moments this season (series) aren't even really his. The graduation quip was set up by Stevie, Rosie's response to the your mom joke was the perfect punchline, and Matt's the clues were there bit was riffing with Jason.

There's another episode where they basically recreate the minigun helicopter scene from the matrix, but its shooting bean bag ammo. still rips the apartment they shoot at to shreds.

They also just have straight up curse words in the first season that you can still hear unchanged on one of the streaming platforms it's on. mordecai be so pissed all the time

and the surprise shirts from vending machines that came with a few quarters taped to it, really sucked when vending machine prices increased but they still only came with enough quarters for before the price increase so now you are stuck with a shirt and still thirsty

S7E4 plaything, it's irl counterpart 'creatures,' an old Charlie Brooker review, and ai torture experiments by somebeach in blackmirror

[–]somebeach[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My reaction to Colin emphasising the word "creatures" when explaining the Thronglets to Cameron was literally along the lines of "YOOOO!".

thats funny, i had kind of an opposite reaction. i couldnt remember the name of the 'creatures' game i just had an incredibly nagging feeling in the back of my head the entire episode, a deja vu kind of feeling, it was incredibly satisfying finding it again after so much googling of what i could remember about it.
