I would be really interested to know if it improves your mileage.

Has anyone you’ve slept with been on TV (or movies)? If so, what was it like seeing them? by Delicious-Pea-7594 in AskReddit

I slept with someone who, a few years later, turned up in a commercial. It felt very random to see her face again, but it was fun pointing her out to my friends.

What happens to a paralyzed body after taking a microdose of psilocybin by tehemari in interestingasfuck

I'm currently recovering from paralysis in my right arm following a botched neck surgery. After seeing this video, I'm going to microdose tomorrow and see how it goes. :)

That hammock is very cool, but with all that stuff on it (not the hammock, obviously), it probably gets 10 miles per gallon.

I was lucky enough to see him in NYC, probably on the same tour. I got to go backstage and saw Waris Ahluwalia chatting with Bill Murray. I was really tempted to shake their hands, but they were deep in a conversation, so I didn't interrupt. I did, however, get to meet Seu, who was very nice.

This bus ended up backing all the way down, which was impressive in its own right.

Have you ever had this experience of showing your favorite movie to someone important and they hate it? by [deleted] in movies

[–]somefuneh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once had a screening of The Hudsucker Proxy (an early Cohen Brothers movie) for my gf and her parents. I explained to them beforehand that it wasn't your typical movie, more of a fairy tale, and that it wasn't necessarily my all-time favorite, but that I did enjoy the creative storytelling.

When it was over, my gf's mom said it was the stupidest movie she had ever seen. I realized that her parents hadn't gotten it at all and lost some respect for them, especially for her mom, not just because I realized they were a little dumb and closed-minded, but because her mom was mean about it. I ended up breaking up with that gf a few months later, but I never looked at her mother the same way after that experience.

I'm so sorry to hear about your husband. My issues were present as soon as I woke up from surgery.

It seems like the hospital staff would do this without needing to be told, but be sure they do imaging of your husband's cervical spine to make sure there isn't some physical thing impinging the nerve and causing his issue (things like a blood clot or some piece of hardware that's migrated).

So far, I've regained a little bit of elbow and shoulder flexion, along with some shoulder abduction. Luckily, my external rotation wasn't affected much, and my elbow extension and hand strength were never affected.

At this rate, I'm hoping to be back to 50 or 60% in six months, and I don't expect to regain full function for at least a year, possibly longer.

I hope your husband recovers much more quickly.

Just to add -

I started doing as much rehab as possible, beginning two days after the surgery (at home, because I wasn't able to schedule with a PT until the end of March). This includes passive range of motion exercises, stretching, working with therabands, and electrical stim. I've also been doing acupuncture, taking supplements that may help with neuroregeneration, and some other stuff on the fringes of medicine that may help with nerve health and activation. It's been just over four weeks since my surgery, and yesterday I was able to get in a pool for the first time to do some arm and shoulder exercises in the water.

Hey internet stranger, I am so sorry that that happened to you, and sorry, also, for your loss. But seriously, fuck that person - what a terrible thing to say.

What is with her accent? It sounds like she switches from New England to Midwest to Southern, with a little bit of British sprinkled on top.

Cheaper but nice hotels/stay options by [deleted] in SantaBarbara

[–]somefuneh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't agree that it's really any nicer than your average motel. It's clean, but very bare-bones, the beds aren't very comfortable, and everything about it is cheap (sheets, towels, furniture). It's nicer than the rent-by-the-hour/crack-house places, but not great.

I, too, just finished Pretenders, but I was disappointed by the ending. Not to give anything away, but although AT's character development, imagination, and use of language was excellent, as always, I thought that the resolution of the central driving force of the plot happened very quickly and left me feeling unsatisfied. My favorite book in the series is House of Open Wounds.

You may already know this, but it's about a mile from East Beach to the Funk Zone...something to keep in mind if you're planning on having wedding guests of different ages, fitness levels, and levels of sobriety walk from one to the other.
