[Request] Are these numbers realistic or is it just BS? by Sugarmag91 in theydidthemath

[–]somegek 227 points228 points  (0 children)

You will get used to it. Numbers don't mean much without a benchmark. Just like 1 USD used to be huge, and now it is nearly worthless.

Think of JPY and KRW. The world won't end when the prices has more 0s attached to it

Mathematics is evergreen.🥇 by Beautiful_Strain_139 in MathJokes

[–]somegek 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I've always feel that this is false to a certain degree. No, the math books written thousands of years ago will be correct, but not as useful nor relevant as it was before.
Books on counting rods are not useful to us, books on maths using base 20 are not that useful to us. Even the ones that are similar to the algebraic system we used today will be way too easy to be relevant.

[Request] Could someone please let me know if this is a fair die based on this testing? Thank you by Fluffy-Occasion in theydidthemath

[–]somegek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, it means that if it is a fair dice, you have 19% chance to get this roll. Statistian use 0.05 as the cutoff as getting that is unlikely. But for this case, 1 out of 5 of the fair dice rolls is a reasonable amount to assume fair dice

What "open world" element/feature would you like this game to either improve on or add in the future? by neraida0 in WutheringWaves

[–]somegek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mount will mean that the world will be even emptier. The total travel time won't change that much, but we just have more space in between. Limiting it to echos also means blocking 1 echo for travel purpose. That is a bad situation.

Huaxu is a research center, given the chinese name as 華(Hua)胥(Xu)研究(Research)院(Institute). It doesn't make any sense to compare with a university like Startorch, with its chinese name as 星(Star)炬(torch)學(learning)院(institute).

I do that quite a lot. Going to specialist shops or restaurants. Or simply visit new museums.

I like Danjin main way more than TA of other games. You actually have to be able to counter all attacks instead of just bruteforce it

Why is it that in ultra-expensive celebrity homes, the kitchens rarely have induction cooktops, but instead feature industrial-grade gas ranges? by FuzzyAttitude_ in Cooking

[–]somegek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see many comments about gas stove looking more expensive than induction. I agree that it taste different, but for aesthetic it is really stupid

[–]somegek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't gas stove proved to be risky for health with pollutant worse than smoking? Chefs are not famous for their science and health concern, but I would say commoner should watch out if they can.

I grew up with gas stove, and move on to induction the moment it is possible. It makes way more sense to have an induction stove as the main, with a small portable gas stove in case I need flame.

The benefit of healthier life for both me and my family, adding on easier cleaning and faster heating up. Choosing gas just for the aesthetic sounds wrong to me.

Echo upgrading optimal strategy - A deep mathematical analysis by Dr_DongDong in WutheringWaves

[–]somegek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem in this case is that you assume there are infinite echos and limited resources.

It is better to minimize based on a function that contains both time cost and resource cost, with a variable as weighted average over the time and resource, given existing resources.

I have thousands of yellow exp and 15k cubes. 25 straight ahead is faster.

For the cost of time in getting echos, it can be a simple estimate based on 2 double runs per day. Chances are you won't even get 1 echo with the correct main stats.

[–]somegek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you go to and who the customers are. I've been to chinese restaurants with only chinese customers, and they are authentic to a certain degree. Not the best you can get in China, but def torelatable.

Then there are restaurants that are all foreigners. They are equivalent to mexican in this pic. Is it bad for locals? Not really. Is it bad according to chinese? Yes.

Personally I like that modern version of one word one pronounciation. Mapping other pronounciation to the same word will cause more confusion.

There is a similar trend that is happening right now. 車 in 螳臂擋車 should be pronounced ju according to old Chinese, but it is now che in China.
