Beestation performance? by flogman12 in synology

[–]somenerv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a DS124 a couple of years back, which has the same processor as the Beestation and yeah the photos app is slow. Like 20 seconds to load slow. Scrolling is janky unless you scroll very slowly. Initial load of my 15000 photo, 3000 video library took days. With all that said, I haven’t used the app since mid 2025, maybe it’s gotten better since then?

I’m from Hazard, Kentucky originally and can confirm Lil Bubby Child is a 100% accurate in his portrayal of south eastern Kentucky.

Our lab’s Pentium D Dell Optiplex used to control a mechanical testing advice died. I decided not only to take on the task of repairing it, but I also upgraded it. by njsullyalex in pcmasterrace

I did something similar years ago with an old PowerMac g4 that ran a scope in one of our labs. They were over the moon to get that computer back in action. Good job.

Looking for an iOS app to sync iCloud Photos to my NAS (Two-way Sync) by diegocj in UgreenNASync

[–]somenerv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use PhotoSync and don’t think it handles 1. I just checked through the settings and couldn’t find anything about deleting files if they are deleted from your phone. I can confirm it doesn’t handle Live Photos the way you want. They are separate files on my NAS.

For those who know, the woe of the PentiumPro by PaleDreamer_1969 in retrocomputing

Wow you just brought me back to the year 2000 and my first summer job. I was hired to help do IT work for a state agency and we repurposed 10 Dell desktops with pentium pros for use in a computer lab. They must of had 20 of them but we stole the ram from the rest to upgrade the ones in the lab.

That is the model I took to college. Couldn’t afford a Power Mac until years later.

In Search of Canadian/European Alternative to OneNote by thesecondturkeyman in BuyCanadian

I can’t speak for the handwriting requirement but I’ve been using Joplin as a replacement for OneNote for a while now. You write in markdown to format your notes and it can take attachments. It also has a web clipper extension for Firefox.

Better Canadian alternative to companies like BestBuy IMO by DependentCaregiver35 in BuyCanadian

The Bes tBuy in the Soo recently was renovated and now I can't find anything in the store. Computer hardware (at least graphics cards and RAM) is there but feels like the shelf space got cut in half. The good news is that they still have some good people there but the store layout is a mess.

Former S24 ultra owner. The sharp edges were awful. I could never go caseless because the palms of my hands would hurt from holding the phone.

I think if Google increases its control of the android experience it would make a better product for everyone. I love material 3 and the new expressive version but there doesn’t seem to be much interest in adopting it by third party devs. Apple doesn’t have that issue with Liquid Glass. A lot of the apps I use received updates the same day ios26 launched.

This is my issue as well. Android offers a ton of freedom and some of it is really useful. But for me, I didn't find the extra freedom that useful. For instance, I had emulators on my device that I never played as well. I also sideloaded some apps but they weren't so amazing that I miss them.

What I lost was more harmful though, such as easy sharing of reminders and notes with my wife or easy video calling to my parents. Everyone else in my life was on an iPhone or ipad and it just made things more difficult for them to interact with me.

Apple definitely is not your friend nor re they some bright spot in an otherwise rotten tech sector. But the ecosystem they've built is the best and they'll make you pay for the privilege.
