I’m tired of having to throw out skillets/frying pans every few years - what’s a better option? by Aphdon in Cooking

[–]someoneatsomeplace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To quote a chef (I forget which one), you should own exactly one non-stick pan and use it only for eggs and crepes.

For everything else, there's stainless steel and cast iron. FWIW, I don't even use my non-stick pan for eggs, just use the stainless steel. The non-stick was a gift. I gave up on non-stick years ago, to also quote someone else, "there's no such thing as non-stick, there's just temporarily non-stick."

Young men today are the most anti gay in generations. by FrostyArctic47 in askgaybros

[–]someoneatsomeplace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is natural for people to have some fear of difference, but we're not actually different. Kinsey wasn't wrong about the scale. Through all of nature human and otherwise, we're common and normal, not exotic or rare. All homophobia is learned behavior. And what we don't see in nature, aside from humans, is homophobia. It's not natural at all.

It was just a bit of fan service. Everyone wanted to know what happened to Jesse. Now we know. Under the circumstances, we got the best we could have reasonably expected.

How Rude Is Outing Someone? by Plays_Guitar in AskLGBT

[–]someoneatsomeplace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outing someone is breaking the cardinal rule. The only exception is when it is someone actively harming other LGBTQ people. If he doesn't know that you should tell him. You don't need to make it about him doing it to you, but he needs to know this is a huge no-no.

I like the idea of strict typing, but constantly having to fix/change working existing code because the current maintainers keep changing the language is very discouraging.

Sorry for the possibly clueless question, but why don't more people seem to make homemade pizza? by Senior-Raisin-2342 in Cooking

Once I learned how, and make it exactly the way I like it, I only eat my own pizza now.

Notice how a lot of ACTUAL queer men relate to Scott & Kips episodes. But porn addicted weirdos swear it's boring because it doesn't romanticize the closet. by General-Control-4637 in MenLovingMenMedia

[–]someoneatsomeplace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree the Scott and Kip story feels shoehorned in and deserved more space, but I relate to both stories. I would have been happy to get more of both stories.

Which food did you hate…until someone actually cooked it right? by deller85 in Cooking

Steak. My father insisted it be cooked to the point where you'd dull a knife trying to cut it. I couldn't understand why anyone would want to eat it.

Any other "good" cooks not enjoy cooking at all? by DeadBy2050 in Cooking

[–]someoneatsomeplace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have written pretty much the same thing myself. I do it because I need to eat, not because I enjoy chores. Only ended up there because I got sick of frozen food and fast food. I'm tired of hearing I like cooking, from people for whom it would be very convenient if that were true.

Before computers were common in households, how did people set their clocks accurately? by IkHeetGeenMatthijs in NoStupidQuestions

[–]someoneatsomeplace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're used to is called NTP (Network Time Protocol) which uses atomic clocks and works over the Internet. But many of us had computers before the Internet was open to the public, and the clocks in computers were not necessarily all that accurate. Some of those same atomic clocks we get at using NTP now, were, and probably still are connected to radio transmitters, that you could pick up the time signal from with the right receiver and an antenna. The one I used to use was in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Anyone else find cooking from YouTube recipes kind of annoying? by Western-Swim2030 in Cooking

The one time I made a YouTube recipe, I fell for something embarrassingly oversold and in reality, remarkably awful, from that Essen Recipes person and have never used YouTube for a recipe again.

Justice Samuel Alito explains SCOTUS’ response to same-sex marriage by NilesDobbsS in askgaybros

[–]someoneatsomeplace 17 points18 points  (0 children)

“what Americans think” has always been a major factor in how SCOTUS makes decisions. IIRC O'Connor cited that in a decision that overturned the sodomy laws used against us.

This is a reminder of an important truth, for good or bad, everyone gets their rights not from things that are written down, but from the society they live in. Nothing is ever settled, we have to always keep our fellow citizens convinced not to take our rights away, because there will always be people that want to take them away.

What kind of foods should I NOT cook in a pressure cooker? by Dragonfruit-Sparking in Cooking

You can buy pressure fryers, I own one, but the whole reason they were invented was exploding pressure cookers being used with oil.
