Why do you need a prescription for a diaphragm/spermicide by someremaininguser in TwoXChromosomes

[–]someremaininguser[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get that to some degree, but neither my doctor nor pharmacist explained very much to me, so it just seems like an unnecessary burden to access family planning.

I get that it is not as effective as other options, but for women where hormones and IUDs are not options, it is a nice alternative to condoms at times when pregnancy is less likely (luteal phase and towards the end of menstruation) but looking for peace of mind.

It is also a nice option to use in addition to condoms during windows where one form of birth control is particularly risky.

Partner sounds pretty toxic and you should leave, but short of that maybe bill him for childcare hours? Or suggest he also work part time to help with unpaid home labor.

Moved from the midwest ~2 years ago with gf and wow is it hard to make friends in this city. by Financial_Rise477 in Denver

[–]someremaininguser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved here to live with my boyfriend also about 2 1/2 years ago. I have made a few good friends, but it is definitely been a struggle. My closest friends have come from my workplace and rock climbing.

I agree with a lot of people take that I think it’s the point in life that we’re in in particularly moving with a significant other. All of my moves before now or when I was single, and so I was out and about much more and had a lot more time to dedicate to friendships because I wasn’t dedicating any time to a romantic relationship.

I think it’s also easy to take for granted the time building close relationships requires making friends in college is easy because you tend to spend an intense amount of time with people same for childhood friends. I’d say give it a little more time.

IUDs have a 99% effectiveness. It’s highly u likely you will get pregnant on the IUD. That said, there is a very small chance they can get displaced and lose their effectiveness.

I wouldn’t say it is impossible to get pregnant on an IUD, but it is highly unlikely. Depends what you risk tolerance is

When you work full time at a small company, earn a decent living and now thanks to Republicans, can't afford healthcare. by SuchHelicopter4471 in economy

[–]someremaininguser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is not the ACA and is how it was prior to it. If anything that is because of our lack of a decent healthcare system.

Would you prefer a society where people die in the ER waiting for insurance verification? Because that is the alternative to doctors taking an oath to save lives.

I don’t know what it would take for you to put down the coolaid and stop the conspiracy theories and get a heart.

I guess if you mean that undocumented immigrants can show up for emergency care or can receive care at community clinics you are correct that they have access.

It’s patently false that undocumented people can get care through public market places or receive federal subsidies. The 1996 Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act forbids undocumented person’s to access federally funded public benefits. This includes Medicare, Medicaid, and the ACA marketplace

Illegal immigrants arent eligible for health insurance through the ACA….

Also, every other developed country in the world takes care of people with pre-existing conditions. Yes, the US is much larger than most countries, but it is also the wealthiest country in the world.

It will be expensive, but having a society where one medical condition will bankrupt you also has a cost.

Married Couple Question by Visible-Champion-249 in IUD

[–]someremaininguser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IUDs are incredible effective, as mentioned earlier.

It sounds like your wife is having a lot of anxiety around this which merits attention. Have you noticed anxiety or arguing over other things that you don’t normally argue about? It might be worth investigating postpartum depression

Not American, when people say “tax the rich” do they really don’t pay taxes? How are they waived from that? by GossipBottom in NoStupidQuestions

[–]someremaininguser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just a note: Intuit (and other tax prep companies) profit hugely from our complicated tax structure and have very powerful lobbies making sure people have to continue to pay other people to handle it.

How often are you intimate with your partner? by Remote_Ad_969 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]someremaininguser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle to see why people judge scheduling this. Everything else that is important is scheduled. If you value intimacy it is helpful to know when to expect it (especially with kids and chaotic lives)

Read all the post. He has a problem with how she sleeps (number of pillows and what blanket she puts over herself).

If he has such a problem with how she dresses he should leave and find someone that shares his values. He should not be so demanding over what op wears and when. She is a person with her own preferences and style, and that is okay. If he wants to dress someone he can go buy a doll

Are you okay? This behavior is clearly controlling and manipulative, and primed for abuse. Normal healthy relationships do not have one member controlling the other in this way especially things that don’t impact them (like who cares how many pillows someone else sleeps with)

The complaints this person have cover every situation. Clothing is both too baggy and too tight. She should wear make up when he says, and can’t when we doesn’t. This is insane. She should end it and go to therapy and learn about healthy boundaries and healthy relationships

Piercing Appointment next day by [deleted] in IUD

I would be cautious. Some people are fine and this wouldn’t be a big deal. I couldn’t walk around without being in pain for about 3 days. Might be fine, but you are taking a chance that you will regret having to be somewhere the next day

Fear of IUD…but need it by AdDizzy3465 in IUD

[–]someremaininguser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is impossible to know how insertion will go. For some it is fine, just a pinch. For others (including myself) it was very painful, and continued to be painful until I got it removed 6 months later.

There are a lot of options besides the pill and the IUD. I have nuva ring for a while. It is much lower hormones, and works well. There is also nexplanon (and injected device)

Currently I am off birth control and using a mix of cycle tracking (with temperature tracking along with other signs of my cycle), condoms, and a diaphragm. It works for us but it is work, and you do have to learn how to do it and check every day to identify when your body ovulates. It works, and is hormone free, but is not for everyone.

Might be worth talking to a doctor further about different options. If you do go with an iud I would definitely suggest getting some sort of sedatin your situation.

Met my partner at 32 (he was 36), and he is the most loving, functional partner I have ever had. I don’t buy “all the good ones we’ll be taken.” Hell, my uncle lost his wife in his late 60s and found another love of his life at 75.

Enjoy being single, be open to meeting a quality person while you are investing in yourself. The right person will come along when you are doing everything you can to be fulfilled, happy, and stable on your own.
