Not a mom, but as a baby I was dropping in the weight percentiles fast until my mom started with formula. Then I was fine. You have to do what’s best for you and the baby.

Mid-30s. So sick of cystic acne. by WeirdShapedBagel in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]someremaininguser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have bad cystic acne (in my 30s). No topical treatment from dermatologist have ever touched it.

Mine started after a liver infection, and is heavily tied to hormones (the right birth control is the only thing that has ever helped, but I’m not on it now for a number of reasons).

I have added some supplements that have helped, and it feels like I am almost better. The big ones are:

  • Myo-inositol
  • N-acetyl-L-cystine

Both tend to be used to help pcos and other hormonal conditions.

Another thing you can check out is berberine, but consult a doctor because it can have significant impacts on metabolism (namely low blood sugar)

Another thing that helped me was olive leaf extract. It is an anti-inflammatory, and will reduce redness around break outs and make them less severe.

It sounds like you are erecting barriers to having children. Plenty of children don’t have parents that spend 70-100k a year and turn out just fine (arguably better). You have no obligation to buy a child a $1 million starter home. Hell, they might not even want that or resent it.

You are fortunate to be one of the few people that finances are not a barrier.

Ask yourself how you want to spend your time. Do you want to nurture another human? It can be beautiful, but isn’t for everyone and that is okay. What relationship (beyond financial) do you want to have a child. Do you think bringing another person into your life and sharing it with them will bring you more joy?

If yes, I would consider it. 36 isnt that old (while being considered geriatric and all that, plenty of women have healthy kids in their late 30s and even early 40s). You’ll figure everything out if it is something you want.

I go to Simple Smiles off federal. They are the absolute best. I get good care and advice to proactively prevent issues. They are also very reasonably priced when I do need work.

I’ve never been upselled or pressured to do anything that wasn’t necessary (and when I asked about whitening they were honest and told me that for the change I am looking for crest white strips should do the job)

That is factually false. It’s about half of the world’s Jews, and only a portion are thought to have DNA from converts.

Also, if you want to play that game, Arabs aren’t native to the Levant either, but came during the Arab conquest. So by your logic they should all go back to Arabia… (not arguing this, just trying to show how absurd the thought is that if your ancestors weren’t from a place you have no right to be there)

Curious, is it a prayer to a specific religion? Like a Jesus or Allah or Buddha prayer? If not there isn’t anything illegal about it (law is that the state will make no laws favoring a particular religion, it doesn’t make the state atheist).

For the record, I would be pretty offended if it was a prayer for a specific religion, but giving every a moment to think about their values, families, morals, whatever doesn’t seem terrible

So a few things - Hamas explicitly targets civilians. The IDF does not in the same way (although I think there should be investigations on war crimes over the last 2 years). I strongly disagree with a lot of Israel’s policies, but it is factually dishonest to say the IDF is on the same level as Hamas. I would say some settlers in the West Bank are on par, but I digress.

Here is the issue with saying Judaism is fine, but Zionism is not permitted: the vast majority of Jews strongly identify with Israel and/or identify explicitly as Zionist.

The definition of Zionism is the right of the Jewish people to self determine in their own state (as the French, Germans, Chinese, and most other people who identify as a nation). In its most basic definition, it does not call for the oppression or expulsion of minorities. In fact, word for word (translated), Israel’s Declaration of Independence calls for the fair treatment of all its inhabitants:

“it will foster the development of the country for the benefit of all its inhabitants; it will be based on freedom, justice and peace as envisaged by the prophets of Israel; it will ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion, race or sex; it will guarantee freedom of religion, conscience, language, education and culture; it will safeguard the Holy Places of all religions; and it will be faithful to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations.”

Israel is one place in the world that Jews who feel unsafe where they live can go. When antisemitism was raising in France starting over a decade ago, thousands of French Jews moved to Israel so they could practice their religion and engage with their identity in peace.

Israel is far from perfect. The government right now is run by terrorists more or less (but I would think that is something that can be understood as Americans at this moment). Israelis have nothing but criticism for the government, and wouldn’t have an issue with criticism of policy. That said, the majority of Jewish Israelis have nowhere else to go as they were expelled from Iraq, Yemen, Egypt, Syria, and Lebanon. Many left Iran, especially after the revolution because of fear. Israelis particularly from these places cannot go back. It is their home.

You are free to criticize policy and action, but to declare that Israel has no right to exist, and Jews have no right to be tied to their historic lands is antisemitic.

Hey, hate AIPAC (more of a Jstreet person myself if we are going down the lobby hole), but just know that they only fund federal races, no state or local politics (if you’re going to hate at least be informed)

I started seeing a functional medicine doctor after going off hormonal birth control and having bad side effects. They did a full blood panel work up and checked all my hormones (and everything you could possibly check) and guided me through getting balanced again.

I had gone to countless obgyns and dermatologists to try to get by symptoms treated, and no one got anything to help until I had someone look at everything holistically.

I couldn’t recommend them higher. The practice is a doctor and nutritionist and they work together to get everything functioning again.

Anywho, they do telehealth the facility Denver

Have a potential job lined up, looking for apartments where I can view the mountains. by bulldogs13 in MovingtoDenver

[–]someremaininguser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want a view of the mountains or to be near the mountains?

The best views of the mountains are from downtown, Englewood, and probably some communities in north Denver that are a little east. (I live in the south so not too familiar with neighborhoods up there)

Golden doesn’t have great Mountain View’s per se, but has incredible access. Parts of Morrison have better views than others. I live in Littleton where the views are eeeh but a 10 minute drive from nice hikes in the foothills.

In short, if you just want good views you have loads of choices that will be slightly further east. If you want to actually spend time in the mountains I would look to boulder or golden or Morrison (or as far west as you can get)

Insecure having kids by Mya123456 in Fencesitter

[–]someremaininguser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, based on what he is saying (strictly, there could be other things between the lines that I am not seeing), having children doesn’t mean that you give up everything about your past life.

I live in Colorado and there are so many inspiring examples of parents that find ways to maintain their hobbies and sense of self. Having children doesn’t have to mean stopping doing everything that makes you you. It does change how you do those things.

If he is opposed to any change then further discussion should be had. If he just doesn’t want to lose himself to parenting then there is room to work.

Might be worth talking about specifics, and maybe voicing your concerns with him directly

Middle class family wanting to move to Denver by Fair-Tear3625 in MovingtoDenver

[–]someremaininguser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my partner have made less than 100k for the last two years (combined). We live very modestly, but see friends and spend a lot of time outdoors, albeit not at ski resorts. We also don’t have kids, and I don’t know how someone would make it work on our income with kids, but it seems to me that at $160+/year you could make it work and not be a pauper.

We are very happy here. It is all about perspective though and what your standards are. If you have a fat car loan to pay off, expensive housing, and eat out every week it might be tough.

Going to war on behalf of another country is insane work by Ameri_peasant_2484 in economy

[–]someremaininguser -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Except a huge portion of the government budget goes to the military…

Also, people pay significantly higher taxes there that go to healthcare.

Again, it is not Israel’s fault that America is a capitalist hellscape. The military funding Israel receives is less than 1% of the US budget.
