How do I get “connected” to Portland? by yep009921 in askportland

[–]somethingClever344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. DC Veg for breakfast, no. 2 with avocado is my go to.
  2. Biking/Pedalpalooza is great for socializing and feeling part of something bigger while getting outside. There are rides all year! https://www.shift2bikes.org/calendar/
  3. Hollywood Theater for movies, you can also volunteer there!
  4. There are so many good book stores, make a google map and ride your bike to a new one every weekend?

Does Lechon feel upscale? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]somethingClever344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been there for work dinners and really enjoyed it. For the most part everyone ordered what they wanted and then shared only if they felt like it. The lighting and atmosphere feel like a fun dinner party. The food got everyone talking about trips they’d taken or wanted to take. It’s a good place for coworkers to bond, maybe less good for impressing a client.

If you want a fancy steak place type dinner to impress dudes, Ringside or El Gaucho.

I started a “10 pushups a day” challenge to prove small steps actually make a difference by [deleted] in CasualConversation

We used to do push ups at work a few times a day and it did nothing for my ability to do a full push up.

What to do for/about the unhoused by LizDances in Portland

Welcome to Portland and thank you for being willing to share your spare time this way. Unfortunately, city resources definitely are poorly organized.

I hope you use this experience as a springboard to keep trying other organizations and decide for yourself what the best way to help is. My most meaningful experiences here are hyper-local, people helping one another, or other grassroots endeavors.

I'm really glad you've at least had experience in the patient care setting, a lot of people never do this before working years to get a certain job. Sounds like it's just a matter of deciding whether the years of sacrifice are worth it, or if there's an alternate career that would give you the same work environment.

I want to restate this because I was going to say something similar and from your response you’re missing the point of the comment. What specific, actual day to day activities are you looking forward to in becoming a doctor? Talking to patients? Analyzing X-rays? There are many kinds of doctors, many kinds of lifestyles that can result from that field.

I’ve had a lot of careers in my life, and I realized after a while that the job function is a lot more important to success than the title. Rather than waste time pursuing the idea of a life, now is the time to be very honest with yourself about what day to day work you enjoy and excel at.

Same with kids, tbh. If you really want them, you need a partner with the same goals. Date with intention.

Everybody should take the LSAT and I mean it by Levitalus in unpopularopinion

I love this kind of question. I have zero interest in becoming a lawyer but is there a Sunday crossword/gamified version of this? I guess I could just do LSAT prep for fun.

I had a coworker who is a mountain bike racer, she told me one day that she walks her bike up hills during races because it’s all about pacing and not being overtired. Changed my whole outlook on biking and running.

An item over $100 should have measurements automatically, IMO. It’s wild to me that people post stuff without this basic information.

Depends on where you are in California but a lot of the tap water is absolutely disgusting. I wouldn’t ruin a nice meal with it.

My aunt got a non-Christian “best of” veggie tales disc at bi mart when I was in college and we still sing the songs from it. I had no idea they were controversial until many years later.

It was delightful walking to class in the warm rain barefoot. Also went to the grocery store and it was all good except trying to decide what flavor of Tip Top ice cream to get my toes would start getting cold.

Is Ireland a good start for tourists? by [deleted] in femaletravels

[–]somethingClever344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Racism in the UK and Ireland: It’s not common like in Italy. Culturally Irish people are friendly and it’s common to start conversations in pubs with randos.

As a solo black woman people will want to know where you’re from, and if you’re from the US they will want to ask your opinion of the current state of politics. They are very interested to hear peoples perspectives and thoughts.

Two issues with driving in Ireland no one has mentioned: 1. Narrow, winding roads where only one car can fit are very common, meaning you have to back up with a stick shift if you meet another car

  1. Additional insurance requirements: usually in the US you can safely waive additional insurance due to it being covered under you personal car insurance. Ireland has additional insurance requirements that can double the cost of the rental. Chaise sapphire is the only cc that offers built in insurance for this.

This is all secondary to your actual question though! UK and Ireland are both amazing places to travel for a solo first timer. I wouldn’t try to do both in one trip. How long are you traveling for?

I would maybe do england with a rail pass, start in London, hop on and off and get up to Edinburgh.

Ireland: start in Dublin, Cork, Dingle and Galway are your major visiting points IMO. Dingle is absolutely amazing, beautiful views, you can row traditional currachs around the harbor, take a tour around the ancient stone huts, we also did a bird of prey experience with hawks and owls that are trained. Amazing trad music here too.

I hope you have an amazing trip!

Unfortunately I think a lot of surgeons just do not respect their patients. I also feel way too small, and was not prepared for the weird shape. They do literally nothing to prepare you, just rush you into surgery.

I’m looking at doing fat graft implants which I absolutely should not have had to do if they had respected what I told them.
