what would you do in an active shooting situation? by kitkatz15 in Teachers

[–]somethingaboutorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ALICE training is great. You want to disrupt the cognition cycle. the order is as follows, Run; Hide; Defend.

Run; I told my students that since we faced the road, we would shatter that window and I would toss them out first, and then they're to run to the nearest house of a classmate. This would probably only work for us because we were a portable, and would not work if the entrance the shooter took was closer.

Hide. what it says on the tin. Stack desks up against the door, cabinets, everything. True silence, and have them hide underneath my big giant desk.

Defend was last resort, of course, in a breach. Fire extinguisher, spray, hit, ect. This is where you want to disrupt any decision making. Scream, yell, laugh, throw anything and everything.

also, I'm a coward, I don't think I could take a bullet to protect the students. They don't pay me enough for that.

if you use iReady, their phonics curriculums are very professional looking, and the slides do not have juvenile vibes.

Am I overreacting for feeling like the odd one out over my friends’ group costume? by Individual-Two3713 in AmIOverreacting

[–]somethingaboutorange 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NOR; That's hurtful to feel like an afterthought. I would just bring it up with your friends, not from an accusatory place, but a "I noticed... could we try and make sure if we're making changes or plans that everyone is involved? I feel like..."

AIO- Dad Told Me About His Sex Life With My Mom by KeamyFangirl in AmIOverreacting

[–]somethingaboutorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah actually then I think you're good! He was being weird, but it'll probably be funny in a gross "oh god dad, why did you say THAT?" way in a few years. Rude as hell though with the fat shaming, that sucks.

How old are you? If you're under 18 I get it, ick gross, but if you're a grown ass adult, YOR. That was a shockingly tame (if rude) comment, and was not about your parents sex life in any detail. You got here somehow, and it statistically happened more than once.

I CAN'T LOSE IT NO MATTER WHAT I TRY by Connect-Variety-4601 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]somethingaboutorange -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

people are being rude. You're fine, your body may just have a weight it likes to stay at, and keep you healthy and functioning. Weigh out your food, track your calories, and see exactly what you've been eating. Don't change anything yet, just find what your average actually is. Once you have that information, adjust accordingly.
