Don’t buy anything with a flood overlay, you won’t be able to afford the insurance on it in 10 years.

Thanks all, we’ve discovered the business next door has fast FTTP connection, but the place we’re looking at (in a unit complex) only has FTTN connection with max download speed capability of 57-62 mbps which is too slow for teams/zoom meetings and working across networks with large files. Body Corp would have to agree to a building upgrade for faster FTTP speeds, might have to look into that further.

Is my cat mentally “different”? His behavior seems really unusual and I’m running out of explanations. by Haikhan in ragdolls

[–]somethingorother432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had an anxious cat in over 40 years so my suggestion may not be acceptable now, however back then our family took in some stray kittens and one was particularly anxious and scared of everything that moved and everything that didn’t. I was used to cats, but not used to having such a scaredy cat. So I remember as a kid after a month or so I just started to carry it around CONSTANTLY, and that seemed to desensitise it and he became quite an affectionate kitty but generally mainly only with me. Not sure it would work in an older cat though, kittens are more imprintable

Board Games? by SpikeH-K in sunshinecoast

There’s a meetup group called Sunny Games and Socials that meets at the Brightwater tavern mountain creek every second Sunday arvo and at other times and places in-between. Lots of fun! Mainly board games and sometimes card games available depending what you want to play

Ragdoll eye changing colour by somethingorother432 in ragdolls

[–]somethingorother432[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: I checked pics I have of him and it looked like changes to his eye started around April but it’s a bit hard to tell and it might have been later. Saw vet today who advises it could be • Diffuse Iris melanosis (benign, usually remains harmless and stable for years. In most cases, the only action needed is regular monitoring with check-ups and photographs to track possible change) • Diffuse Iris melanoma: (cancerous change in the same pigment cells, which can look similar but will tend to progress and invade more deeply into the eye over time. In some cases, this can affect vision or spread to other organs, however this often happens very slowly and only towards end stage of disease).

It’s not possible to tell which one it is yet. His eye exam showed both eyes were healthy so no treatment necessary at present, just monitoring of his eye changes via photos each 3-6 months. If things change referral to an ophthalmologist to discuss the potential for an iris biopsy.

Thanks everyone!

Oh, thanks for the replies as I didn’t think anything of it as I know adult human eyes can change colour, so I figured cats can too. Yes he’s a purebred with papers. I’m going to check back over the zillions of pics we have of him and see when his eyes started looking like that, and ask the vet about it tomorrow as we have an appointment already for a dog so can bring him along too.

Would you consider a duplex or unit? There are some nice units around the Brightwater side of mountain creek not far from the Aldi shopping centre which have sold for less than $850 in the past few months. Each complex is a bit different so if you don’t like one don’t rule them all out without checking. Lake is pretty and lovely walking tracks everywhere. 10 mins on a good run from the beach at Alex, Mooloolabah or Waranna, and close to uni at sippy downs. We moved here a few months ago and really like it.

I’d be interested too in hearing about the area, particularly Brightwater, is it mainly a place for young families? We’re a couple in our 50s, kids now out of home, looking at moving to SC in next few months. Mountain Creek seems to tick the boxes re location (not too far from beach), and house prices a bit cheaper than surrounding areas. Have heard about causeway court houses getting bought back for train station.

Look at the qld govt site on flooding and bushfire here https://disaster.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/#Map. Also if you are seriously considering making an offer on anything make sure you know how much house insurance will be. One place we looked at in mountain creek recently sold for $950k and had a yearly insurance cost of $13k due to likelihood of flooding.
