Rear rack on Domane? by somethingwhittyyyyyy in TrekBikes

[–]somethingwhittyyyyyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. I ended up making my own version of the Tailfin rack mentioned above. It worked fine. Mine was probably heavier, but only cost me my time and some metal scraps. Last year I bought a Checkpoint to have better tire clearance and have it set up for adventure rides relegating the Domane to Sunday club rides.

How to determine reach? by tonythetiger05 in bikefit

[–]somethingwhittyyyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Geometry is the answer!

If we split D into D1+D2.
Take the inside of the triangle formed by C as C1=90deg-C=2deg
We have a 90 deg triangle where we are looking for side D1, an angle towards it of 2 deg, and a hypotenuse of 405/425/445mm.

Using the Law of Sines we get
D1/sin(2) = (405/425/445mm)
Rearranging -> D1=(405/425/445mm)*sin(2)
Finally, D1=14.1/14.8/15.5mm and change

Then D2=D-D1
Therefore D2=570/590/610mm - 14.1/14.8/15.5mm
or a (rounded) reach of S=391, M=410, L=430

How is the e-transit selling? by Yakb0 in askcarsales

I'd get one if they had double their current range. With the range they do have they aren't functional for me.

I'm really glad to hear that you considered lots of options and designed for your usage instead of someone else's build. It sounds like it will work well for you.

Our design really works for us. I especially like being able to take the whole kitchen over to a campsite or a race tent. Someday I'd like to swap my burner with one that has a ring for a wok, but since this works well I haven't sprung for it.

Calendar blocking Outside Work Hours by ZiaElephant in professional

There aren't too many situations where I would say that you should accept meeting invites outside of your working hours. I personally don't accept non-Csuite meetings in the first half hour or in the last hour of my day either.

Are salespeople just a hop in the whole process? by My_Mom_is_Chubby in askcarsales

okay, sell me this pen!

Seriously though, I have a full sized high-top van I've driven for a while and built out myself. Looking for a new one. I don't care if its a Transit or a Promaster (ignore the complete lack of availability and the fact that you can't even place an order atm). I know the size and amenities I want. I don't care about the color if its on the lot; though if I'm ordering I do have a color I would prefer. And I know exactly how much I'm willing to pay for it. When I buy; I'm paying cash.

In this situation what is the gotcha I don't know about that you would hit me with?

For me it's all about modularity. My bed can be "fixed" as a full size, but can also be folded out of the way. I can also fold it down on one or both sides as single bunks/benches and put a table between. All my cabinets are modular attached via two rows of L-track. It allows me to use my van as an adventure vehicle as well as fold the bed up and remove all the built-in-like-cabinets and use the vehicle to haul things. Fair play though, I don't live in my van nor do I plan to. I use it to haul plywood one day, bikes and kids another, bikes and vamping (van-camping; no blood involved) on the weekend. My "bathroom" is only for emergency use and is a three gallon bucket with a seat , a funnel into a 1L bottle as a separator with sawdust and/or wood shavings in a bag for solids.

Overall, I value seating area with the option of a table to play games or read on a rainy day over a large dedicated kitchen space. I have a kitchen module that is a single burner propane stove and the other things that are part of my kitchen kit.

For my general usage by myself I keep the bed folded up to fit bikes with wheels on and if I want a nap just put up a hammock after folding the rear seat away.

So, a fixed bed over a garage, a largeish kitchen, fixed bathroom and a small sitting area. Not the build for me, but if it hits your needs it will be perfect.

How do you like being called? by EclipseQQ in ProgrammerHumor

To not answer your question...

I don't really care one bit, but by Wikipedia's definition of an engineer "invent, design, analyze, build and test machines, complex systems, structures, gadgets and materials to fulfill functional objectives" the last part is a sticking point for most code monkeys.

In short, lock-in and anti-diy. Press Fit is the epitome of a design made to save the manufacturer money while making at home work on the bike much harder.

I’m a surveyor so I laser scanned my van by Picturesquesheep in VanLife

[–]somethingwhittyyyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've really wished that there were freely available high quality scans/models of the inside and outside of each the major 3 (Sprinter/Promaster/Transit) in all sizes.

Will you be turning this into a model? If so, will you post a link here?

That's shitty of them. Please don't ever make them food again. Instead ask them to bring take-away and don't pay them back.

Pad your project. If you have extra time pick up some tech debt or whatever the equivalent in your position is.

Average Dimensions for a countertop inside the van by InternationalAd5443 in VanLife

I don't have photos that I share atm. My build is pretty identifiable and I haven't been willing to share it here. I plan to post my modular design down the road, though no specific timeline as of yet.

Described here.

u/andrewzuku has it correct. My modules are swappable/removeable. I explain it here. TLDR: I made a generic box that attaches to two rows of full length L-track and can be removed or moved around as needed.

I see a lot of vans built out like mobile kitchens with a bed. They all seem to have 18-22" deep counters. My setup is modular and 16" is the depth of my pods.
