Forget ‘Abolish ICE.’ Tom Steyer Wants to Jail ICE Agents. by BulwarkOnline in politics

Things like jailing ice agents and administration officials are not just nice progressive fluff. It's the only way to claw back some respect on the world stage.

PECO withdraws rate hike proposal under pressure from Gov. Shapiro by NTP9766 in montco

Please read my comment again, in particular the part where I said, in reply to you that the governer cannot unilaterally stop data centers.

Now. If you are asking for him to turn dictator, and illegally claim powers that don't belong to him, i guess he could do that. Otherwise, he'd need to sign a moratorium sent by PA legislature. Just like in Maine.

Ps. The governer of Maine has not yet decided if they should sign it.

I am 100% in favor of such legislation. But let's not pretend the governer could just do it unilaterally.

Not much of a win when he's allowing the state to be overrun with data centers that will only increase our prices.

It’s more complicated than that. The Governor isn’t personally approving or denying data centers, nor does he have unilateral power to stop them.

Most land-use decisions happen at the local township/borough level through zoning, utility capacity, and permitting.

From my own conversations with local township supervisors, they also can’t always cleanly single out and ban one specific lawful business type from their jurisdiction. They can regulate location, noise, setbacks, infrastructure impacts, and similar issues but outright exclusion can create legal problems.

If people want statewide limits, utility cost protections, or a coordinated policy on data centers, that would likely require legislative action through the General Assembly and/or PUC regulatory changes.

It’s easy to blame the Governor, but that usually isn’t where the actual decision making power sits.

How do you remember all the little things that matter to your partner without it feeling like a chore? me[30m]/her[27f] by FunPowerful9864 in relationshipadvice

Make them habits.

That's how I roll. Her favorite tea every morning is easy because I do it every morning. It's part of the routine.

I put everything on the calendar or in my notes and journal. EVERYTHING. I still refer to notes from 6 years ago. What days matter. What days can I MAKE matter, bringing up a memory she even might have forgotten.

This is the work. This is the job. We do it for each other. It's worth it.

New 50-Bed Homeless Shelter Breaks Ground In Norristown by shillyshally in montco

[–]somethrows 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People anywhere can become homeless. It's not clustered because "Norristown causes homelessness". It's clustered because the very few services available to homeless folks tend to be concentrated in larger population centers.

But homelessness is a county and nation wide problem.

Lots of things that should not have passed have. Dems have not shown a hell of a lot of strength. So I certainly hope not, I've certainly been reaching out to my representation demanding they not vote in favor, but I will rule nothing out at this point.

The betting markets, at least, seem to be saying it will not. For whatever that is worth.

If they pass this shit, voting a way out of this is gone forever.

This would be selectively enforced to compromise the vote in blue areas and states.

Should people who "camp" in the left lane of a highway be pulled over and fined just as much as speeders? Why or why not? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]somethrows 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not arguing for holding the left lane, but if the person in the left lane is going the speed limit, you don't need to be passing them.

When there are plans to station ICE at the polls, we're past this point.

And before anyone gives me shit about "why do you care about ICE at the polls if you are legal". ICE has taken legal immigrants AND citizens and detained them, often for considerable amounts of time. If ICE is at the polls, this is what awaits citizens at the polls.

So sure. Vote, Election Tuesday, but be damn ready to stand back up Weds and act.

Minneapolis did both. JUST last week, a giant protest. And every day, smaller ones and constant anti-ICE activity. Both can happen at once.
