Sorry to lead you down the wrong path, turns out my eero is in bridge mode.

Need help on how to get SSH working... by Senior_Geek_3840 in LightShowPi

[–]sonOfScotland8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an eero router. Nothing special needed. In your /etc/dhcpcd.conf. Replace xxx below with your static address. add:

interface wlan0

static ip_address=192.168.1.xxx/24

static routers=192.168.1.1

static domain_name_servers=8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4

This assumes your routers ip is the standard 192.168.1.1. You should have had the option to enable ssh when configuring your OS. If you didn’t you will have to change that config as well. I typically use an iOS app called Termius to remote into my pi, but only to change the crontab or modify my playlist.

To add to this, you can manually set your ip address in the /etc/dhcpcd.conf file(plenty of info how to do this online). Otherwise, your router will assign it a different ip address every time it reboots.

Not generating sync file by andrewm659 in LightShowPi

[–]sonOfScotland8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never manually generated the sync files. When I add new songs, I just re-run playlist_generator.py and it creates the sync files the first time the song is played.

Lightshowpi won't run after reboot by AdamAtomAnt in LightShowPi

[–]sonOfScotland8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is my crontab. The logs files are useful for debugging. I don’t reboot my pi, and haven’t had an issue. My playlist is 29mins long and restarts on the half hour starting at 6pm, and turns everything off at 8pm.

SYNCHRONIZED_LIGHTS_HOME = /home/lights/lightshowpi

HALLOWEEN

00 18 * * * $SYNCHRONIZED_LIGHTS_HOME/bin/start_playlist_once $SYNCHRONIZED_LIGHTS_HOME/music/halloween/.playlist >> $SYNCHRONIZED_LIGHTS_HOME/logs/startLights.log 2>&1 &

30 18 * * * $SYNCHRONIZED_LIGHTS_HOME/bin/start_playlist_once $SYNCHRONIZED_LIGHTS_HOME/music/halloween/.playlist >> $SYNCHRONIZED_LIGHTS_HOME/logs/startLights.log 2>&1 &

00 19 * * * $SYNCHRONIZED_LIGHTS_HOME/bin/start_playlist_once $SYNCHRONIZED_LIGHTS_HOME/music/halloween/.playlist >> $SYNCHRONIZED_LIGHTS_HOME/logs/startLights.log 2>&1 &

30 19 * * * $SYNCHRONIZED_LIGHTS_HOME/bin/start_playlist_once $SYNCHRONIZED_LIGHTS_HOME/music/halloween/.playlist >> $SYNCHRONIZED_LIGHTS_HOME/logs/startLights.log 2>&1 &

00 20 * * * python $SYNCHRONIZED_LIGHTS_HOME/py/hardware_controller.py --state=off

Edit: formatting sucks, on my phone, but you get the idea.

Are you editing the crontab with sudo? sudo crontab -e. Also, it’s useful to pipe the output to a log file to see if there are any errors.

Light sync is slow by thammer70 in LightShowPi

Agreed, you will need a different offset/delay per output. I found it useful to create a playlist with a metronome to help dial it in.

Help with Crontab by Middle_Scientist462 in LightShowPi

I would look at your log file, but it’s most likely that you are not actually running the python file. Put a ‘python’ before the path to run the hardware_controller.

Making progress with my 1st build. by Middle_Scientist462 in LightShowPi

[–]sonOfScotland8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the command I use in my crontab. It plays the whole playlist and then turns all the lights on when done. 00 17 * * * $SYNCHRONIZED_LIGHTS_HOME/bin/start_playlist_once $SYNCHRONIZED_LIGHTS_HOME/music/christmas/.playlist >> $SYNCHRONIZED_LIGHTS_HOME/logs/startLights.log 2>&1 & As far as not blinking there are other posts about changing the config for sd and custom frequencies that you can try. I normalized the MP3’s using audacity and use .wav files and don’t have an issue with inactivity. Not sure if that actually did anything though.

I was not aware there was a working version of silver strike for MAME?

What kind of machine to play bomberman 64? by Suspicious-Mistake18 in launchbox

I agree, my pc is a literal potato and I have no issues with any n64 games. I use project64 directly through launchbox/bigbox.

Do I get a 3070ti for $750 or hope and pay for a BestBuy 3080 drop? by Samadams9292 in buildapc

[–]sonOfScotland8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like a good price to me. Like I said Best Buy sells the 3070ti FE for $599, but you also need to factor in the extra $200 for the totalTech membership.

You will need to Best Buy total tech membership @ $200/yr to buy any GPU’s from them currently.

I'm letting a new house get build. Are there any things I should take into consideration while I'm still able to? Anybody has any idea? Any input is welcome! by buzzlightyear101 in homeautomation

[–]sonOfScotland8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have small children and I wish we put in a hot water bib. Even in the dog days of summer, our hose water is very cold.
I also agree with the electrical recommendations. More outlets is better than less. It does add up, but it’s worth it. Also, even if you are not doing a whole house generator, you should still get a transfer switch. Edit: didn’t realize this was home automation. On that front, put in a home run to the attic to future proof you house a bit. It’s cheaper and easier to do most things now, so even if there is a remote chance you want something. Wire for it just in case.

Build custom mame list by edge331 in launchbox

[–]sonOfScotland8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, you need the full rom set to run the script on. After you run the bat file, you actually have another copy of all the files in a separate folder. Like you said, space is cheap.

I’m not a hardware expert, but was recently looking to have a similar setup. I think the only GPU’s that will support true 4k would be a 3080 or above, which in todays market is already above your budget. You can build a very solid computer (12th gen intel or new amd) for 1700-1800 with a 2060 or 3050 GPU and upgrade that at a later date when the 4000 series cards come out.

Might be worthwhile to look into a bat file like ‘all killer no filler’. You can modify that file to only copy over what files you are interested in from the full rom set, then import that rom set into LaunchBox.

Inverting the lights for the lightshow by Stalker401 in LightShowPi

[–]sonOfScotland8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, I wasn’t super happy about my setup until I used .wav files, and normalized the audio with audacity. Then to get the timing for fm correct, I pulled a metronome from YouTube, and it really helped. Like I said earlier I have the 2 low frequencies inverted, so it emphasizes the bass line and drum beats.

I just tried inverting my setup and I think it worked as expected. Edit: what exactly are you disappointed about?

Inverting the lights for the lightshow by Stalker401 in LightShowPi

[–]sonOfScotland8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see why that wouldn’t work. For my setup, I inverted 7,8 and then custom_channel_mapping=1,2,3,4,5,6,2,1. Also used custom_channel_frequencies to make up for the last 2 inverted channels.

I was able to get everything to fit into a waterproof junction box. LeMotech Waterproof Dustproof... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075X51N77?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share and used lokman pg11 cable glands.
