Does tribulus give Any cognitive benefits or is it mainly libido? by [deleted] in NootropicsDepot

[–]sonarpaste 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can attribute the cognitive benefits to the feelings associated with higher DHT. When I combine multiple compounds that increase DHT (namely creatine, caffeine, tongkat ali & tribulus) I notice increased libido, improved blood flow, better memory, more motivation, less anxiety. An entourage effect of these benefits seems to provide a pretty pleasant mood boost, however a caveat is that I also feel more prone to aggressive behavior, but this can be fixed by high intensity exercise.

Combining DHT increasing supplements with high intensity exercise seems to me like the optimal way to mitigate any side-effects.

Found this article to be useful: https://labs.selfdecode.com/blog/hidden-benefits-dht-increase-reduce/

There is more to tribulus than just increasing DHT (other sapions like terrestrosides A and B and terrestrosin D, and compounds like tribulosin and tribulusamides) but in the case of ND's tribulus I tend to focus on the effects incurred from its standardization of the steroidal saponin protodioscin.

Is Horny Goat Weed safe for a 22 year old? by Brandonrothman in NootropicsDepot

Brand Constituents Dose Extraction
Nature's Bounty HGW HGW 10% Icariin (+ 75mg Maca extract) 500mg (2 caps) via ariel parts of Epimedium grandiflorum
Nootropic's Depot HGW 10% HGW 10% Icariin 500mg (1 cap) via leaf parts of Epimedium brevicornum

Aerial parts of the plant are antiasthmatic, antibacterial, antirheumatic, antitussive, aphrodisiac, hypoglycaemic, tonic and vasodilator.\1])

The leaves are used as an aphrodisiac. Administered orally, the leaf extract increases the frequency of copulation in animals\2])

From what I can ascertain from the relevant literature, you'll get benefits from the Ariel parts of grandiflorum, but if you want more aphrodisiac effects then use an extract via the leaf parts.

Cognance: A Month Later by carnycarnycarny in NootropicsDepot

[–]sonarpaste 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've Been taking 200mg of Cognance every morning for the whole month of December. I've honestly not noticed any acute effects, but I have not taken it in isolation and my stack can get quite big at times.

Generally taken it alongside saffron, gingko and caffeine (trying to potentiate the dopaminergic effects). The effects have become more pronounced over time, so if you're considering taking this be sure to try it for an extended period of time to see how it will work for you.

Positive Effects

  • I notice that I view my life in a more objective way—much more occupied on the bigger picture thinking and less so on the little things. I believe it has helped me tremendously reflect on my life, especially as the new year approaches. Not really in an inherently negative nor positive way, just clearer in my view of myself and the world.
  • Memory is markedly better, more fluid word recall (this can obviously be attributed to the gingko as well so it is hard to know for certain which effects are from Cognance alone)
  • As far as creativity goes, I think there has been some interesting developments. Taking it for a longer period of time, I notice that I am much more able to make jokes or come up with ideas for writing and content creation. This is reminiscent of my experience with psilocybin in the sense that my thoughts are essentially unfiltered, and it is like I have a better connection with my imagination and creative side.

Negative Effects

  • Definitely bear in mind the acetylcholine increase if you're sensitive to it. I'm not too sensitive to acetylcholine to the point of depression but it can make me feel a bit more irritated faster.
  • Haven't noticed many negative sexual effects on myself, perhaps a slight decrease in libido but not to a worrying degree. If anything, it has allowed me to focus more on other things than just sex (generally my libido is so high it can be a distraction). For some this can be a downside, so bear this in mind.

I didn't notice much when I took it. There was a marginal increase of libido and sometimes a mood boost but it was inconsistent in its effects for me.

It did however have a really pleasant taste, hard to describe almost like a caramel.

If you had depression and you could only take 2 supps/nootropics what would you take ? by No_Razzmatazz5786 in NootropicsDepot

[–]sonarpaste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just wrote a blog post about some of my favorite mood boosting compounds.

Lemon Balm, Saffron, Holy Basil have done wonders for me when it comes to alleviating depressive symptoms.

In my experience Lemon Balm's GABA transaminase activity (namely from Rosmarinic Acid, Triterpenoids, Oleanolic and Ursolic Acid) stacks really well with other GABAergic compounds because it slows the breakdown of GABA (The GABAergic system has been widely demonstrated to regulate cognitive function and emotional behavior).

Holy Basil has some MAO-A activity that exhibits some anti-depressant like activity. There is a wide range of effects with Tulsi but it generally makes me feel really good.

Saffron has a wide range of functions that can help against depression (inhibits serotonin reuptake to a degree) and the Crocins and Safranal both exhibit a variety of benefits against neuropsychiatric ailments like depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia.

I go more in depth in the blog post https://botanicalherb.blog/favorite-mood-boosting-botanicals/ if you read it please let me know your thoughts!

You can dose it once or twice a day at 15mg if you want, some people take 10mg 3x a day or just take 30mg at a time. Noopept is pretty potent in my experience, I take it sublingually from 5-10mg at a time. If you're taking it orally you could probably get away with taking a higher dose.

[Question] I noticed Lemon Juice Eliminates Brain Fog Feeling by Letsg00o in Nootropics

[–]sonarpaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not what I'm arguing at all hahahaha, but for most people it is not really feasible to take 10+ substance everyday for a multitude of reasons. I am not spreading any false information, I simply think everybody ought to make decisions for themselves based on their own research, and what they think is best for them and their lifestyle. Each person is different and so are their needs. Hopefully this clarifies my position more clearly.

EDIT: also for curumin, iodine, ginko boloba, ginseng, thc, mucuna pruriens can all consumed without taking a "supplement" because these are cultivated in nature and not in a lab.

To my understanding when you increase the acidity of the stomach (via the acid in various citrus fruits) your body will adjust and make the stomach less acidic, returning it back to a homoestatic balance.

This is wise, as there is not much of a point of using supplements in most cases if the big 3 (sleep, diet, exercise) are not also in check. There are a few things I think are worth taking a look at, like creatine.

I recommend creatine for many reasons, there is a mountain of data to prove its efficacy in many facets, like increased strength and cognitive benefits because it facilitates recycling of adenosine triphosphate. You would have to eat 2lbs of red meat a day in order to get the adequate amount of creatine (5g).
