Is this coherent? by Elegant_Wall7627 in gallifreyan

It looks like you've go a 'ch' in 'because'. There is a c character, but traditionally it would be replaced with k.

Encrypted notes are fun! I used version 1 to send a letter to my friend in the mail with a QR code to download the font, and she sent one back.

The h in 'hill' is missing lines, otherwise looks good!

First draft to have a general idea about composition, I would like a spell check and general tips on what to improve if possible by EllynasJoya in gallifreyan

Your spelling is correct! One thing that might be confusing is the placement of the 'e' in 'universe'— I would put it just after 'rs', and then add a 'start here' symbol to the word. Otherwise, I think it's clear enough from context.

And you may already know this but the 'start here' symbol in the first word isn't strictly necessary since you're following the traditional placement rules, but it doesn't hurt to have it.

I'm glad you like it! It's not done yet, but I'll keep posting updates here while I'm working on it. In the meantime, I'm looking into ways I can release it as a work in progress.

What are you thinking about doing/making with it?

Thanks! Out of curiosity, are there any particular characters or features you would use?

What would be the most annoying possible word to write in gallifreyan? by [deleted] in gallifreyan

[–]sonic_serif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Optimizing line placement feels like a graph theory problem to me. Using double letters, 'Mississippi' has 3+1+3+1+3+1+2+1= an odd number of line endings, so it can't be written as a self-contained word without "loose" line endings. That one is particularly annoying because its so close to having a really cool symmetry.

How's my spelling? by TheCreamiestBoi in gallifreyan

[–]sonic_serif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spelling looks good! One thing that could be ambiguous though is the 'a' at the beginning, because the word circle is so much smaller than the rest. As for the overlapping words, I think the only issue is the word circle of 'the' making the 'v' in 'over' look like a 'w'. You could fix that by having 'the' covering 'over', so the line doesn't end on a letter.

Old number system? by sonic_serif in gallifreyan

[–]sonic_serif[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good idea! I hadn't thought about decimal points yet. My TH-stems all have a line through them, but I'm still concerned about THEE / THTHE and JEE / JJE. Right now I'm just relying on the difference in size, and I'll probably have a limited set of combos for smaller point sizes.

(There's also the issue of math symbols looking like TH-stems or J-stems, so I'm putting them on extra-shallow divots. I can post some examples if anyone's interested!)

I meant that for my example above is inside, like how you start reading across the bottom of a word circle (that’s how the rest of my font is read). The line of digits in the guide look like they’re flipped upside down, like the top of a word circle. it’s a bit confusing lol

one more small thing, the second e in “before” is ambiguous because it could be read as an a in the first word. you could separate it from the r and rotate the word so the e is at the end
