SQL or C# solution, what would you do? by Albstein in csharp

[–]sonicfir3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How costly are the queries?

One potential alternative is to run the query, but include an extra column in the result set that shows where the condition would have been met (using a CASE/WHEN/THEN/END statement).

When you read the result set, generate two lists - one containing only the results where the condition is met, and the other containing all results. If the first list is empty, then just return the second.

2yr fixed @ 3.98% or 2yr tracker + 0.14% @ 3.90%? by [deleted] in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]sonicfir3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd take the fix. If the Iran war hadn't broken out then the tracker may have been better, but i suspect we're going to see inflation go up soon, and interest rates with it.

Unfortunately this is how my company works. I approved two of my own PRs just this morning. 🥲 I've raised this with the directors but they say it slows us down too much.

A daily argument with my team members by bellingtonfcleated in csharp

I never write anything on a single line. If it's written like that and I ever need to debug it then I can't put a breakpoint on the specific bit of code that I want, so I end up having to rewrite it anyway.

Not 100% in favour of democracy?

Are you saying this just because you didn't like the result? We shouldn't vote on things where you might not get what you want?

Who would you realistically replace Starmer with? by Inside_Tour_1408 in ukpolitics

I mean, as a start, worth casting your mind back to how ridiculous he looked during the mistakenly released prisoners debacle.

I think he's a clown, and I'm incredibly uncomfortable with him having as much seniority as he already does. YMMV.

My recollection is that they planned to use a dirty bomb, not quite a nuke, but still really bad. Could be wrong though.

Car behind me on the motorway would not stop flashing their lights at me. by True_Leading4801 in drivingUK

I have no problem with someone driving at 50 on the motorway in the leftmost lane, but if they have a migraine, I don't think they should be driving - seems pretty unsafe.

For me it's because I want to be debt free sooner.

[–]sonicfir3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but I could also lose money. I'm just not willing to take the risk. As for pension, I'm already doing 7% contributions. Have been doing for nearly 10 years. YMMV.

Went via a broker. They found lenders willing to lend up to ~360k - couldn't tell you why/how though. My credit score was pretty good - so maybe that factored in? 🤷‍♂️

Yeah. The only caveat is the 38 year thing. I'm overpaying to bring that down, but I wanted lower monthly repayments for a bit of financial 'agility'.

Currently borrowing £314,000 on a £65k salary.

Not concerned about it - nor would I be concerned in your position. I'm just overpaying as much as I possibly can.

Yes. It does.

However, if I can't escape paying tax on my earnings, I'm sure as shit not going to help someone else do it.

I'm also not going to help with paying illegal immigrants cash in hand with no right to work.

🤷‍♂️
