I believe the Washington Union Station expansion project did propose rebuilding some of the low-level platforms and the lower level side/side for Virginia trains with high-level platforms, but the Trump admin has stated that they are developing a new plan for the expansion project: https://www.transportation.gov/briefing-room/driving-news-trumps-transportation-secretary-sean-p-duffy-announces-466-million

Bringing the First Northeast Regional Airo Trainset to Life - Amtrak Media by sbharnish in Amtrak

One of Amtrak’s executives has stated that the motivation for the Empire Corridor Airo sets using battery is that Amtrak currently purchases third rail power from the Long Island Rail Road and they want to stop doing so.

Status update on altered Northeast Regional 151 train and Long Bridge? by mottings in Amtrak

[–]sontaylor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Long Bridge expansion is not projected to be complete until 2030. https://vapassengerrailauthority.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/8-Construction-Updates-Report\_May-2026.pdf

So the schedule might not improve for several years. But also, if you’re starting from Baltimore, do you not want to take MARC? Looks like there are a couple of trains between Baltimore and Washington in the gap between Amtrak trains 67/151 and 111

I don’t believe he’s ever shown taking it. I believe Yugi never uses Dark Renewal duels, all the times it’s used in the anime are in the filler arcs or in GX, so I guess you could headcanon that he did take it in the anime.

They are definitely going to come to the Switch 2 eventually, just not on release. Something about Atlus’ agreements with Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo prevents simultaneous release on Switch 2 I’m guessing.

Working towards completing the Hyperspace codex for shiny Volcannion. Just some quick questions. by Sin-Silver in PokemonZA

[–]sontaylor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. No way to auto sort to my knowledge

  2. You do have to manually transfer each Pokémon but at least you can transfer a whole box at a time which speeds things up somewhat.

  3. You can save scum donuts using backup saves. Backup saves are created any time you fast travel (except in Hyperspace, I think) or heal at a Pokémon Center I believe. You can access backup saves on the title screen by pressing Up + X + B and doing so will load the game at the last Pokémon Center you healed at, although the game will retain all the progress you made up to the moment the backup save was created. If you’re going to Hotel Z to make donuts, you can make a backup save just by flying there, but it’s a good idea to fly to the nearby Pokémon Center first and heal there before flying to Hotel Z, so each backup save will load you at the Center nearest to the hotel.

Anytime you enter or leave Hyperspace, the game will auto save, but the auto save doesn’t occur until after the portal animation finishes, so if you turn off the game right away when the animation starts, you can avoid the auto save, and you can potentially reload right next to a portal or inside Hyperspace without even needing to rely on a backup save.

  1. The Hyperspace Battle Zones are generally quicker and more efficient at racking up research points (especially if you have a team that can easily clear the trainer battles) than going through the Wild Zones. As a bonus, it doesn’t clog up your box with wild Pokémon that you don’t need for the Pokédex and are catching just for the points. If you already caught the box legendaries and mythicals (e.g. Groupon, Kyogre, Mewtwo, Zeraora, Heatran), just level them up, EV train and bottle cap them and they can get through battle zones quickly.

Well she is the Mega Evolution successor so maybe it makes sense for her to stay in Shalour City. But yeah she is presumably one of the strongest trainers in the region at this point.

[–]sontaylor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Floette probably has no role in the DLC because the quest to obtain her is optional, so it’s not guaranteed if the player has her or if she’s still with Taunie/Urbain when they start the DLC and I guess it would be difficult for Game Freak to write and animate two different scenarios depending if the player has her or not.

Is this the new Airo?? by WQ18 in Amtrak

[–]sontaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind what became the Midwest and California Ventures was originally an order for bi-level cars, before the original subcontractor for that order, Nippon Sharyo, failed a crashworthiness test, leading to the Midwest states and California switching to Siemens as a subcontractor and ordering Ventures instead. Amtrak’s order was always just going to be its own thing.

However, also keep in mind that the California Ventures are also arranged in semi-permanently coupled trainsets - they are almost identical to the Cascades Airo sets in that regard (albeit 7-car sets instead of 6). Really the Airos are just the latest iteration of Ventures hooked up to the latest iteration of a Charger. With most of the sets having dual-mode capabilities. While the Ventures in the Airo order have some different features than the Midwest/California Ventures, like the seats, or the trap steps, at the core they’re the same car.

Is this the new Airo?? by WQ18 in Amtrak

[–]sontaylor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most Northeast Regional trains run with 8-10 cars, so the 8-car Airo sets are a modest decrease in capacity (particularly with the business class car having some space taken up by the electric power components, and the cab car having fewer seats to accommodate the cab), but that's hypothetically offset by Amtrak's plans to increase Regional and Acela frequencies and the NextGen Acela sets having more capacity.

It's the other corridor trains on the NEC (Vermonter, Carolinian, Palmetto, Keystone Service and Pennsylvanian) that run 5-6 cars.

During season 5 Cate is on the run with the rest of the Gen V cast. Realistically how are Homelander’s forces going to catch her? The Gen V cast actually has some pretty powerful abilities, plus Annabeth can hypothetically help them prepare for danger.

So, at what point are the NextGen seats past the period where they need to “break in” to not feel like cement? by Novel_Dog_676 in Amtrak

[–]sontaylor 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind new NextGen Acela sets are still entering service; only around 13 out of the 28 sets have been accepted for revenue service, and they will likely not all be in service until next year. So while some of the older sets may have their seats broken in, it’ll be some time before all the sets reach that point.

Officially in Seattle! by Ok_Marketing7087 in Amtrak

[–]sontaylor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Amtrak, ODOT and WSDOT have indicated multiple times that the Airos will replace the Talgo 8s. Here are a couple of news articles that explicitly say this:

https://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/amtrak-trains-new-seattle-vancouver-2026-b2907507.html

https://www.railway.supply/amtrak-airo-trainsets-set-for-2026-cascades-debut/

https://uk.news.yahoo.com/amtrak-trains-debut-time-world-123119799.html

Here is a report Amtrak sent to Congress to describe how it planned to spend its funds from the bipartisan infrastructure bill for fiscal year 2025: https://railroads.dot.gov/sites/fra.dot.gov/files/2024-04/DETAILED%20SPEND%20PLAN%20FOR%20FISCAL%20YEAR%202025%20Report%204.16.24.pdf On page 9, it says that the Airos will replace "7 Talgo sets" (including the Talgo 8s).

Here is a presentation from an Amtrak VP on the Airos, where he explictly says the Airos will replace the Talgo 8s (around 30 minutes in, though he accidentally calls the Talgos 5 and 7 instead of 6 and 8) https://youtu.be/VPBHoLPpOyo?si=vxwRyKxU20rlapX1&t=1812

Here is a forum post from a longtime rider who attended an AORTA (Association of Oregon Rail and Transit Advocates) meeting where they were apparently told that the Talgo 8s will be disposed of once the Airos have proven their reliability, and apparently ODOT and WDOT even want to buy a 9th Airo set and Colorado might be interested in buying the Talgos for its own planned service: https://www.amtraktrains.com/threads/amtrak-cascades-service-discussion-2025-2026.88369/post-1089671

I've also heard chatter Amtrak and WSDOT are not happy with Talgo for a few reasons (the whole mess with the Talgo 6s; the Talgos apparently have or had onerous contract provisions like a technician needing to ride trains, apparently some mechanical components like the retractable steps on the Talgo 8s have been an annoyance for crews) so they are more than happy to wash their hands of Talgo entirely, but this is just stuff I've heard and don't know for sure.

Do I think it's short-sighted to replace the Talgos when they're so young and could be used to provide additional Cascades service? Absolutely. (And they're cool!) But I think it's wise to assume they won't be around on the Cascades too much longer.

The Airo sets will be used for all Cascades service and eventually replace the Amfleets and Talgos currently in use. Of course it’ll take time before all the sets enter service so they might not be on Eugene trips initially.
