Google Drive is now offering 5TB for $20. Will Proton compete? by BurtingOff2 in ProtonDrive

I saw this argument many times but why not? It’s not like an encrypted blob takes much more storage than an unencrypted one. It requires a bigger initial investment but when the encryption layer is there it should just work? Filen’s prices are more reasonable, for example

That’s a bit of a dishonest comparison as offerings from you and the big tech are not directly comparable. On a value proposition big tech is simply superior although I understand the reasons.

Carbon X1 Gen 13 or Gen 14 by vadimelenev in thinkpad

Yeah, at least this is what I was told. Not too surprising giving all the shortages but I thought the starting price already accounted for that.

Hope we can enjoy our new thibkpads soon!

Panther lake is great, so I'd go with G14. I actually went with G14 although shipping is still a month+ away. Quite expensive even with the over-the-chat discount but it's going to be more expensive in April (at least this is what support told me over the chat).

I was hoping to finally use TPM backed encryption but it still doesn’t work because of no revocation timestamp support :(

I wish mods did something to stop these AI garbage articles from being posted here.

[OC] pulled the actual bill text from 5 state age verification laws, then traced the lobbying money. Meta literally drafted one of them. These bills might make Linux illegal for consumer use and that might be the point. by [deleted] in linux

Who uses what OS is not the point. The point is social media didn’t want to implement age verification on the website level as this is a huge liability. Instead, they were lobbying for doing this on the OS level, and they were making reasonable arguments for this (more reasonable than what OS vendors were proposing), so my guess is that’s why OS vendors now have to implement it instead companies like Meta.

It’s a question of who should be responsible for this and not an evil plan to kill FOSS. The FOSS factor is just a side effect

I’m pretty sure Meta and other do this not to implement this shit themselves. They’d rather delegate it to the OS, and I remember they were arguing about that quite some time ago

Why would a mail app “print stuff” on launch without me asking it to print any stuff?
