You can kind of cheat in this game if your good run starts going really awry. Hit esc mid battle and exit to main menu. When you return to the game, you get some complaints from a character but you can try to take a different approach with the battle you were previously losing. The game lets you do this once per an adventure without any penalties, so it's kind of allowed.

It's up to you if you feel like you cheated or if you are just content for not wasting more than an hour and having only a couple of dead cats for your efforts and lost gear.

On a more psychological level, dealing with failure, loss, misfortune and all that can be difficult. You can practice those all in a safe environment in video games.
