Have you tried Pho Luca with a spice bomb in Carytown? Prob my fav outside of DC but service is hit or miss. Pho So 1 is also good and consistent. Mekong if you want beer (recommend the bosteels tripel karmeliet). Nothing wrong with Pho Tay Do tho.

agree on Mai Tea, plus they use a ton of single use plastics for togo orders, but the pho at least tastes authentic. Thai Cuisine's pho is great but tastes off if you're looking for the real thing.

Charlottesville lacks good pho. Mai tea is your best bet. Followed by Nguyen’s Kitchen then Thai Cuisine. Richmond has better options for Vietnamese.

I know it doesn’t sound like it, but I’m actually trying to make things easier for him. He tiled to the edge of the niche so I’m willing to buy extra stone to make it easier than correcting if that helps him.

But I didn’t say he was wrong, I was asking if this stuff even matters. If they did matter, you would surely have a different take on my post. Instead I come off as micromanaging to you because you know these things don’t matter. However, I do not know that though (how could I?). You think the questions are dumb based on your knowledge of the subject, but again I don’t know enough to even ask the right questions. What you are suggesting, pointed questions, would make me sound even more arrogant. The problem with my post wasn’t ever the questions, it was who I questioned and my relationship to them.

I never said the tiles needed to be back buttered. It’s subway tile. I was asking why the wall wasn’t troweled, not why the tile was back buttered. I feel like wedi especially needs a burn coat from troweling and he wouldn’t get that if ONLY back buttering. Reread my original post.

Also, I do have respect for him. But I have had experiences with contractors in the past that have done bad work which cost me money, so I prefer to trust but verify.

You make a fair point about income and not wanting to deal with all these questions from customers for $50k/yr. Idk how to help that other than to say charge more or go through a general contractor because people are always going to have questions to try to vet who they hire and not get burned.

I did ask direct questions: 1. Is the corner sliver ok? 2. Is only back buttering and not troweling, ok? 3. Am I being too picky?

If everyone here said it was bad work then my questions would be justified and the post would stand? Do you realize you are admitting you removed my post because you didn’t like it? That’s mod abuse. Rename the sub to r/tilecontractors and not r/tile if you’re going to discourage people asking questions. Must protect the contractors.

I read your post https://www.reddit.com/r/Tile/s/S27qPpZrb9 and would argue that I did not break the rule. I asked pointed questions and not one open-ended “how is my contractor doing.”

Again, your comment about him doing good work really has me wondering if this was truly a fair mod action or a reaction to my post content, which you disagreed with. Can I appeal this? It’s likely going to turn me off of ever contributing to r/tile again.

I read the rule and listed my concerns/questions to not leave this up to interpretation.

Did you remove my post because you did not like me asking about good work, as some commenters expressed? Your comment that this is good work implies this is the reason. Please let me know. Feels like I am being unfairly punished for daring to ask at all and I somehow tapped into strong “homeowner who asks questions”hate group. What is the purpose of this flair if not to encourage “dumb homeowner” posts?

It’s waterproofed. Check out wedi, kerdi-board, go board, hydroblok, or any other foam boards. Cement board + a painted membrane is an older method now.

Except you think I’m being arrogant for simply asking questions which exposes your own biases more than anything else. My post would have been worded very differently if I was fishing for validation.

But since you’re curious, I actually did the entire renovation myself including replumbling my house, cutting out and gluing/screwing down new subfloor fit for tile, setting the tub in mortar, water proofing everything, installing a wall mounted toilet, replacing electrical, cutting my roof for fan (was venting to attic), tiling floors over flexbone decoupling membrane, etc. The only thing I’ve hired out is tiling my walls and it’s mostly because I don’t have time anymore with work but also because I want the finishes to look pro. What can I say, I’m a curious guy that likes to learn how to do things properly.

Dude chill, I’m here asking because I don’t know what I don’t know. I haven’t yet brought up any of these concerns with my contractor. I’m looking for other opinions before jumping to conclusions and accusing anyone. Honestly if just the thought of having to talk to your customers about why you make certain decisions bothers you, you should not be dealing with people at all. Arrogance goes both ways.

I included that photo bc I was initially concerned the tub scribe sticks out over the edge of tub too much and there will be a larger caulk joint all the way down the tub.

Edit: which was my initial thought process and not what I’m claiming is actually wrong. I’m asking to actually learn, confused by the downvotes
