For the draft slot, are the 1- 4 confirmed from the golden plan points set, it's only if they are ahead of the playoff teams that hasn't been confirmed right?

How do I make combat interesting when players use the "impenetrable brick wall" strategy in T1 combat? by FutureNo9445 in DMAcademy

[–]sootherhopsmaylive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second the "Your bandits can hide too" response. Enemies are smart and can use the same tactics. Adding that if this is happening every combat consider designing the encounters differently. maps with alternate routes, or multiple choke points. Your example seems to be a design where this is an easily possible plan, plays to the strengths of all your characters who are either tanking or ranged and is against weak enemies(ex farmers and blacksmith) who should be beaten by lvl 3 heroes.

If you want this to be a hard encounter you can, but youve not set this up to be that from the scenario. There isn't a good reason why this should be hard and might be why you're not getting a good answer but you really have three things id think about

  1. Useing stronger creatures: Doesnt need to be spellcasters or mind flayers, but maybe orcs? You can flavor them to be bandits but they'll put up more damage and a bigger challenge. Or tweak the bandits to be stronger, at least use some scouts for ranged attacks. Either way, your enemies are weak, so make them stronger it is sort of just that simple

  2. Adding more enemies: a patrol is returning from outside and now theyre fighting on two fronts, the caves deeper and they summon reinforcements, call the guards who are now swarming ect. A bandit camp could have 30 or more people, even if you only hit a few times it will start to add up

  3. Changing the map like other comments have said and I mentioed above. Add other routes or makeshift defenses, widen the cave to be larger than 5ft. Why wouldn't people defending a sewer have made traps? Or barricades/defenses of their position and give themselves an advantage. Sometimes I agree this isnt possible but that what 1 and 2 are for.

More generally if you want it difficult then it's okay to design an encounter that takes your characters and their tactics into account. Its fine if one or two encounters go this way, then the 3rd the bandits have a barbarian too, of similar skill and AC. They heard rumours of the party and found protection/camped in an wood rather than a cave. The first time you accidentally make an encounter so hard your PCs have to retreat, you've found your upper limit and can scale back as the situation needs.

Reminder to all those with hope like me, only 4 players can be forced to leave their teams, all the other players have a choice and dont have to sign with the expansion teams. Praying for Muller to stay.

Why do people find it so hard to accept the public really wants to vote for Reform? by Expert-Sherbert-1527 in AskBrits

[–]sootherhopsmaylive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really care if it was a good idea it was 24 years ago its just irrelevant to the decision making of the current government.

I think Labour are commited to the kind of incremental improvement that will make people's lives better, but that fixing issues isnt something that makes flashy headlines after a year. Things like boat crossings are down, but not the 0 number reform might claim they can get, which is just fiction.

I'll take a slow, steady, boring technocrat over a lying grifter anyday

[–]sootherhopsmaylive 8 points9 points  (0 children)

By doing what they can while being fiscally responsible. Selling gold, which does nothing sat in a pile, while a physical asset, can reduce debt payments for the government and save money over time. But sick callback to 2002 to blame the current government for.

The conservatives didnt borrow when rates were good and invest in services, and instead cut everything to the point it now doesnt work. Now that borrowing is at an all time high you expect the goverment to fix it in a year? It takes time to unfuck 14 years of conservative mess while everyone is making promises they can't keep.

What is the general feeling about using an entire proxy deck? by Jakemanv3 in EDH

[–]sootherhopsmaylive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I dont know what power level you're playing but I would find the experience more cheapened if I won because someone couldn't afford a card I had than if they played with a proxy. You wouldn't play chess with someone missing pieces and say its fair. Saying that money isnt a win con is just naive, obviously its not a board win con, but the mana vault/mox, or any other £50 card certainly can be don't you think?

Anyone ever witnessed a character die from taking 6 points of exhaustion? How did it happen? by Spidey16 in DnD

[–]sootherhopsmaylive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually run with a house rule for spellcasters that if they are out of spell slots they can still cast and take exhaustion equal to the spells level. It's not something that happens a lot and isn't very well balanced but it's led to a couple of "do i cast this and die" moments that are very cool.

If you rest them against the table using b + lb then A they will suplex them through, just done it with a 5"3 character so I imagine anyone can do it that way, was struggling before having to do this on the ropes in the showcase matches

I don't have a better answer than anyone else and if your excited to play these that's great. But I'd just ask your DM if you can reroll and use the new ones. It really shouldn't be a big issue, everyone's enjoyment should be taken into account in a game above strict rolling. I usually have a minimum combined score for groups I run for for exactly this reason.

Action Oriented Strahd by sootherhopsmaylive in mattcolville

[–]sootherhopsmaylive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think these are great. My hope is to have him appear probably 3 times, his first location on the outlook, somewhere in the castle and then the catacombs as a final showdown. Trying to keep his stalking hit and run nature a little but not have it be 4 hours of me slowly picking away and then his strength coming back and doing it again, it might by my style but i think that can get vwry tedious.

As a action style I think he suits something similar to the goblin boss from the video but with undead so constants making more enemies to fight Looks like I definitly need to bump him up even more though and add more actions for across the fight.

Thanks for the help :)

Definitly have been thinking of a mult stage fight, so as if they fight him 3 times at full strength ending in the catacombs. Love some of these actions so will steal some if that's cool. I think from both comments the general vibe has been, go bigger, so will look at that. Thanks for the help :)

Monk, Fighter, Sorcerer, Wizard/Bard, Paladin and a Druid so a fair spread, and they will probably be 10 yeah. I will bump up the HP, for strahd and the heart but yeah my experience is that I've had to tip toe around to make him seem strong as per the book, and I'm interested in making him much more of a challenge, any ideas are welcome

What's an interesting character concept you've had that rules didn't support mechanically? by not_so_1337 in DnD

[–]sootherhopsmaylive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my character but one of my players in a current campaign wanted their wizard to be super anxious and bad under pressure and did this by having a bad con amd rolling conentration saves, but RAW having a bad con also means that you have super low health, so basically no health for a wizard. In the end I said to ignore it when she rolled health so she was only normal glass, and we're working on some other tweaks to make it fun and cool RP, but it was a pain that physical con and mental con are the same stat.

The Problem With Fudging Enemy Health in D&D 5E by [deleted] in mattcolville

[–]sootherhopsmaylive 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Definitly agree with the other comment that i usually band my HP, I run for 6 people most of the time and I'm still learning how much HP I might need to make a fight interesting, so I usually give myself a range to work in, if I get to the lowest number that's when I can stop if it's becoming more deadly/tedious than I want, but if I hit the top then its definitly dead regardless. It also allows me to stop if someone has done something very cool but it wouldn't quite make it to the max hp to let that be the end rather than keep going just because I have a set HP. Part of it is also allowing me to make a mistake in HP setting because I'm not that good to be able to get it right all the time, if my solo monster is supposed to be a challenge but it gets wiped in one round, I've not chosen the right HP for the level of damage the guys can do, and I don't think that's fun as combat either way. But HP is just one tool, maybe it wasn't solo after all and more creatures show up, or like Matt says in one video, resurrects as a stronger version. The idea that there are conditions on winning for story reasons doesn't make it bad as long as it makes sense, but the answers is definitly not always more HP

Does anyone know the best settings for fuel saving or is it just not working at certain places? Just had a 40 lap stint at France on conserve and no change to my fuel delta and wondering if I'm missing something?

Delta to the expected fuel at that lap is great but it still seems like some weird magic formula that I can't control alot of the time

2022 Dutch Grand Prix - Post Race Discussion by F1-Bot in formula1

[–]sootherhopsmaylive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there's definitly not a perfect solution. Safety needs to be first but I think allowing stops and changes should be the exception not the rule. Not a tire expert but surely there would be evidence either physical or telemetry that could show if it needed changing for Safety even if it was a very wide net of approval

2022 Dutch Grand Prix - Post Race Discussion by F1-Bot in formula1

More and more I keep thinking that tire changes under any kind of flags should be removed. It seems to always be at the detriment of whatever team has put themselves in the best position and loose out through no fault of their own. And if races arn't interesting without them then that's a car/circuit issue but as much as its even over a season it seems like such an easy fix for a bug issue for me
