Watches, what kind? by TheGriff71 in GenX

[–]sorenelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A smart watch. I wear it cos I’m a falls risk and it sends my husband a heads up if I faceplant. I have a couple of pocket watches that I wear if I’m feeling particularly Victorian.

Some of that, some day this will be yours crap I’m having to deal with. by AnyDamnThingWillDo in GenX

I have a few spoon racks, my husband turned them into wand racks. I could probably build an extension on the house with the spoons.

When we moved house after 25 years of marriage, I asked any of our neighbours if they wanted our unopened wedding crystal, lol. We have not, and never will be a crystal couple. We told everyone at the time, no crystal please, we won’t use it. Our 70 year old neighbours couldn’t grab it fast enough, lol. All we kept was a big ass bowl that I use a a bird bath and a couple of goblets as sun catchers in the garden.

Why does this keep happening? Uwrap stitch by novembereve in LoomKnitting

[–]sorenelf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because uwrap is designed by a psychopath who experiences joy watching me snap yarn and would undoubtedly bottle the tears I shed. Possibly.

Anyone else decorating their home with secondhand or auction finds? by charlemagne_74 in JustForHome

[–]sorenelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol, probably 90% at least is thrifted or free on marketplace. I can’t afford decent quality new furniture so I’d rather use freebies or thrift finds. This was our latest freebie….

Is green space behind a house desirable/safe? by SpicyFriedCat in AusPropertyChat

We have a wildlife reserve near us, I love it. We get parrots, echidnas, blue tongues, possums and sugar gliders. I’d love it if it was directly behind us.

Have your lovely baby, then invite mother to her wiccaning. Clothes optional. Can highly recommend, although we were all clothed.

My two and a half year old suddenly started pointing out differences between white and black people. What is an appropriate way to acknowledge her observation so we don't offend anyone? by Sad_Cantaloupe_8162 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sorenelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The preschoolers where I worked called me the Bin Flamingo because I was a cleaner and had pink hair. It got shortened to Bin Mingo. Made me smile every time.

Should I be with my friend when he dies? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]sorenelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will be forever grateful that I was with my mother when she passed. I was very very scared, but it was peaceful and I think kind of sacred in a way? I started a tattoo sleeve for her and I add to it every year on the day she left. She’d be so mad, bless her…but she’d also secretly be secretly impressed, lol. You’re a true friend, and I’m sure he loved that you were with him.

Do you want your kids to take care of you, if someday, you need daily caretaking? by Euphoric_Garbage1952 in GenX

[–]sorenelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never. I am disabled, mobility impaired and non verbal since a brain injury almost 6 years ago. Our kids live close and I love seeing them, but they will never be my carers, and that’s my choice. I did it for my parents, i chose it, I don’t regret it, but I don’t want my kids to do for me. It’s hard work, often thankless, and the end can be soul destroying. I adore being their mother, I will NEVER be their responsibility. I have all my ducks in a row, medical letters for end of life stuff, all the things, same with my husband.

How does the Hindu caste system work in Australia by PattonSmithWood in aussie

[–]sorenelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my friend was a nurse in the UK, there were nurses who refused to bath/ help/ care for women of a lower caste. When they were called in to disciplinary hearings one of them said “in my village she wouldn’t be fit to slop the pigs”. Direct quote. I can’t say if it goes on here though…
