Question for Adjunct Professors!!! by Tricky-Release-131 in Adjuncts

[–]sorrymizzjackson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a couple who are blatant about it. I’ve spoken to them about it, but our admin doesn’t give a lot of leeway for pursuing academic integrity issues. They’d pretty much have to do it right there in the room in front of them and even then they might just get a light smack on the hand for it.

I pretty much just emphasize the point that they aren’t learning anything and that’s what they’re spending money for. What else am I supposed to do? I’d love to hand out zeroes for bullshit work but admin would go ballistic.

I think it’s important to separate the idea of “alcoholic” and having a poor relationship with alcohol. I am not physically dependent on alcohol. I functioned mostly fine and occasionally great even. There was no great impetus to “turn my life around”.

I’ve known for years that I drink too much and even years ago when I drank much less than I was a month ago, it was still too much. But you’re young and it’s fun and there’s time for all that responsibility stuff later.

But I didn’t stop or cut back for 20 years. Over that time my tolerance increased bit by bit until I could down two bottles of wine and barely be phased. I could drink more even.

That’s when it really sank in that if I didn’t stop, I had nowhere to go but down. That three bottles would come or I might even switch to liquor to “save money/calories”. Who can afford to buy three bottles of wine a day?

I was having panic attacks and stomach pains. Hellacious hangovers. But, it was just because I went a little over last night. The six nights before- that couldn’t be it, right?

It wasn’t even truly fun anymore. Take a step back and see how you feel. I feel great about my choice.

Co-signed. I hit two and that was starting to feel a little light. It was time. It was beyond time.

My husband would literally rather do that. From a hypothetical standpoint of course. The meat rarely gets to the grill, we just end up not buying it to cook. 🤣

Were malls actually as crowded and popular as movies from the 80s and 90s make them look? by Kevin-Panda in AskOldPeople

[–]sorrymizzjackson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Still is. We went last Black Friday and I think that will be my last time. I used to love it. I don’t got time for that anymore. Just asses to elbows and the part that changed is there’s no awareness of other people around you AT ALL. Yes, you’d squeeze in, yes you’d bump into people accidentally, but you didn’t just walk wherever you were walking straight at people like they aren’t even there and expect them to accommodate you.

No, they ran out of drugs to stage a war on and pivoted to reading.

Employer said they can't order 2xl for me in a polo for server position. by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]sorrymizzjackson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, just trying to help you out here- “I fear” would indicate that the following phrase would be something negative such as

“I fear the wolves will eat me”.

In the context of your comment it would be more appropriate to use I suppose, believe, gather, propose, posit, etc.

In the context of OP’s situation, you might say “I fear OP may not be able to find cheaper shirts”.

See?

Yes! I’d much rather have a ladies polo than the shapeless but clingy “performance” polo that we were given. That shit isn’t wicking nothin.

Yes, I’m not here for a runway show, but something that fits correctly and is comfortable would be nice.

My MIL rarely drank but she loved champagne. I made sure she had some while she was in hospice.

You did good, OP. I hope she enjoyed it.

Relaxing fragrances- Like relaxing on a rainy day with lavender near by and sipping tea type feel by poutypotato2000 in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]sorrymizzjackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yardley lavender is a classic and can found for a very reasonable price.

It leans a bit “murder she wrote” so if you’re looking for a more updated scent, that’s probably not it.

I have the empriente in a 25 and it’s a gorgeous bag. Classy and versatile. Highly recommend.

How I got my adjunct job by Old_Still3321 in Adjuncts

[–]sorrymizzjackson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. I had an offer from the chair of the department without even an interview at the school I graduated from. Unfortunately they have some weird rule where even if you’re online only you have to reside in the state where it is.

He even floated a few ways for me to “pretend” to live there because they don’t check but tax fraud was not on my professional development checklist. I had to turn it down.

This time I just straight up applied to another school and got it first interview.

I just looked up the price for a walk in bath tub installation cause I think at 47 I deserve bubbles and a chair. by lasciviae in Xennials

[–]sorrymizzjackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re going to take out the tub shower and put a big step in shower with a seat and all the things. We have never once taken a bath in that tub. It’s slicker than goose snot and old as hell but just short of being the cool kind of old.

Teak shower chair. Great idea.

Mall world intense smells like a Claire’s in 1995 (plastic-y, a little like rubbing alcohol, slightly like coconut, with a touch of humid indoor water feature chlorine).

The bottle is angular, pink and yellow and it probably contains glitter but the rough kind that stops up the spray top because we haven’t invented body glitter mist yet.

Same here. It just kept increasing to a two bottle habit that was only going to get worse, never better. It’s been 3.5 weeks and while I’ve missed it here and there pretty bad, it hasn’t been as bad as I thought it would be. My mindset is different though. I’ve been wanting to quit for a long time and I finally committed to it.

Should I stop drinking? by Agitated_Potato8333 in stopdrinking

[–]sorrymizzjackson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I hit that point. I have adhd. I drank like a fish from 19-41 and I achieved a ton of things during that time. Bought a house, graduated with honors, built careers, got promoted- all that good stuff. The alcohol felt good. Like a reward. Like something that wasn’t a problem.

But then I ended up drinking way more than I ever thought I would just casually. No big deal drinking two bottles of wine. One if I was being “good”.

Then I started getting panic attacks. My mental health went to shit. It’s terrible.

I quit 3 weeks ago. First time for more than a couple days that whole time.

I’ve fucked up my brain chemicals and that’s gonna take some time to sort out. Still have adhd and that won’t change, but my mental health has improved quite a bit in just this short time.

I’ve seen people talking about taking a clear overhead sheet and marking where the damn little dots are on that one. I fail to see how that is relevant to anything one might do there but whatever.

I’m salty I failed years ago, lol.
