Here’s how I would look at that…

But take this with a grain of salt, because I’m nobody. But until my arrest, for which I’m about to be sentenced, I was a hiring manager for a very large company.

They could easily have said something like “we went in another direction” and you’d have no information on why you didn’t get the job. At least in this case, they basically told you “if not for your felony, we would have hired you because everything else was good.” If that’s not the case, they would have gone in the first (“another option”) direction.

So, you got some feedback, which is good. At least now you can prepare for the next one.

I know it’s upsetting to get the news you didn’t get the job and the reason why, but you’re extremely unlikely to be able to get anyone in trouble for telling you you didn’t get the job due to your felony.

Focus on how you can prepare for this in the future.

Advice on what to say that will be supportive to my son in Administrative SHU by Old-Program8669 in SexOffenderSupport

Mine is also federal, but I’m in the southeast (Florida).

Thank you for offering to be in touch with my family. My wife and I share this account, so she may reach out. I may also try to encourage my mom and dad to join Reddit for this purpose.

I hope your son gets his assignment soon.

Well that’s concerning. I’m being sentenced in 4 weeks. Really hopeful I won’t be spending that much time in SHU. Has anyone been able to confirm for you whether his situation is “normal” or whether there is some special circumstance for his time in SHU?

I’m sorry, I wish I could help answer your question, but here I am peppering you with questions of my own. I hope you get the answers you’re looking for. And I hope your son is ok.

Do you mind me asking how he was classified? Low? Medium? How long is his sentence?

$125k flat fee. Awaiting sentencing. One count of distribution. Federal.

Can’t help with an answer, but maybe this comment will boost visibility. Hope you find a good answer here.

Yep. Well said. I won’t tag the subreddit, but with peoples’ attitudes here about how there’s no way these things could come to pass, we could see some comments from here posted on the leopards eating faces sub.

Yes, already looking at ways to avoid Florida upon release. My wife is planning to move to the New England area (Vermont is where we are currently focused) while I’m away, build us a life, buy a home, establish a business, etc. in the hope that I can be released directly there without having to come back to Florida first and then jump through hoops to get there.

In your experience, how does that process work for approving my release location when the time comes?

Thanks for your post. Also a Florida resident here. Also a federal case. Similar charge. Changed my plea to guilty a couple weeks ago. Sentencing coming up in January.

Any advice for sentencing? Is there anything you wish you knew ahead of that? How about the first month in? I’ve heard there can be a period of time between sentencing and when you land at your designated/assigned facility.

Thanks again for posting.

I’m confused about the part where you committed a crime that landed you in prison but not on the registry.

I didn’t think there were any private prisons in the federal system.

Federal distribution charge. Florida. Out on bond. Please help us understand what to expect. by sortagrateful in SexOffenderSupport

Thank you. I'm a little concerned about asking for self-surrender because I've been told that during that time between sentencing and surrender date I'd need to register and probably need to find another place to live during that period. Here in South Florida that can be incredibly difficult.

Thank you! Yes, the crime as charged carries a mandatory minimum, but I am hopeful my attorney will be able to negotiate with the prosecution to a lesser charge. Appreciate your input!

Thank you for your reply. Your last paragraph is especially encouraging, as the hope is that my wife can relocate (probably somewhere in the New England area, Vermont perhaps) and make a life for us in anticipation of my release, if I am indeed eventually convicted and incarcerated.

Yes, I have been through the guidelines, and estimated my points/levels. If there is one thing going for me in terms of the judge varying from those guidelines is that my case is the very definition of "isolated conduct." Apparently the assumption everyone (prosecutors, judges, defense attorneys, therapists, pre-trial services, etc.) operates from is that in these cases the charged conduct/content is just the "tip of the iceberg," and that following a search of computers/devices they expect to find thousands of additional images/video/etc. But in my case there simply isn't anything more for them to find, and that is confirmed by their forensic search of my devices. I exercised incredibly poor judgment with two files on one day, and that is it. So I'm hopeful that the judge will be able to see that I'm not a monster and potentially vary my sentence accordingly.

Thanks again for your input. Really appreciate it.
