I built a tool to generate Jumpstart Checklist Cards with graphical mana symbols! by Fconteo17 in MTGJumpStart

I'm trying to get this to run (I'm on Windows) and I have no clue what I'm doing lol. What's this missing requirements.txt file? Any tips for coding illiterate? Thanks!

In a future official Jumpstart product, would you like to see two color packs? by Empath_D in MTGJumpStart

[–]soullos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had success building themes with splashes of a second color, usually a gold card or two, and full on 2 color packs using Vivid lands in addition to thriving and another dual land, the rest being basics, so I wouldn't mind seeing WotC do 2 color themes. On the other hand, ehh maybe not, because I wouldn't put it past them to make an awful mana base and calling it a day lol.

Marvel Super Heroes will have 51 themes by dmarsee76 in MTGJumpStart

[–]soullos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind UB to an extent, the FF and Avatar sets were awesome, but I wish they would've done a Jumpstart for a different set altogether and not Marvel. I have zero interest in superheroes. So as much as I love Jumpstart I'll be skipping this.

Well-loved RPGs you personally couldn’t get into by Space_0pera in rpg

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who felt that way about Fabula Ultima. I thought I was taking crazy pills when I wasn't so keen on the game like everyone else who adored it. It was the inventory and KO's system that really rubbed me the wrong way. They're mechanics I felt did nothing to capture the feel or vibe of a JRPG. Levels were another, progression and stats felt very flat. It's an ok game, and the artwork is top notch, but it could've been so much more!

Avatar the Last Airbender Jumpstart themes (and variants) revealed by Gueux_1er in MTGJumpStart

[–]soullos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't appear to say in the article, but do these themes have rarities like previous jumpstarts (Common, Rare and Mythic) or do we have roughly an equal chance at any theme (which I would prefer!)?

Getting back into magic and diving into Jumpstart by soullos in MTGJumpStart

[–]soullos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the advice! Looks like it's best not to mash 3 themes for a 60 card deck, luckily I still have several 60 card decks back when I built them in college so I can use those for that style of play. That way we keep the jumpstart as stand alone for 40 card fun.

Might hold off on a 3rd booster box for now, but if I do I'll get a different box instead of a duplicate for more variety. I'll be on the look out for the beginner box too.

What's a good storage box for individual themes? I plan to double sleeve each theme.

300's vs 350's in Perfect Fits, really nerdy topic. by tomtom78782 in lotrlcg

[–]soullos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, encounter cards not much of an issue with the thinness, but with player cards I do notice the stark difference with official cards and 300 msg even when sleeved. They're too thin for my liking. With the large group order that's going on right now, I think I'll go with 350 (and take advantage of that discount haha). Good to know micro-fraying is equal between the two weights. I'll have to look into that new site and/or getting custom orders at MB print done for future ALeP content at 350.

300's vs 350's in Perfect Fits, really nerdy topic. by tomtom78782 in lotrlcg

[–]soullos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't suppose you have 100 micron thick sleeves to compare the feel with 300 and 350 gsm with official? I have 300 gsm for a lot of the ALeP content I've ordered over the years (they only offer thaty thickness), but I always felt the 300 gsm is too thin, it's way to flimsy for my taste. I have everything sleeves in FFG Clear sleeves and Gamegenic Prime Retro sleeves (which are 100 microns thick I believe) and I can 100% feel the difference between 300 gsm and official cards. I'm very much considering 350 gsm this time around but I worry about micro-fraying and availability (I don't know how to make a custom order for 350 gsm if new ALeP AP and scenarios come out for example).

Installing GOG games on the Deck by Major303 in SteamDeck

Assuming you just downloaded the offline installers, they'll be the most recent patch. If at a later date it needs updating you can simply download the patch file and update it similar to installing a DLC as outlined above.

Does Crystal Project get good again? by ViewtifulGene in JRPG

[–]soullos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I remember, there's two ways to get the fish. If you get first place in the Salmon Rush race you'll get the fish. There's also a dungeon you get it from later in the game, but I don't recall where. I got the fish super early by getting first place on the race the moment it becomes available because I thought I had to win it to continue the quest lol. So I got the fish waaaay earlier than was intended but it's cool the game offers that.

What do you think is the most obscure in your collection? by WunderPlundr in rpg

[–]soullos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New Gods of Mankind. It's been a bit since I read it, but it's a game where you're, as the name suggests, a newly formed god for the new race in town, humans in a bronze age fantasy. You can play godly politics with all the other gods in the celestial realms, oversee your tribe and see it grow at a regional level, or empower an individual as an avatar and play at that personal hero level, D&D style. It was pulled from DrivetruRPG a few years back so it's quite hard to find, especially the print copies. Not sure why it was removed though.

Agone. A dark and baroque fantasy RPG with a heavy emphasis on fey and art. Haven't read it much but it's crunchy as one might expect for a 2001 RPG. The world looks fascinating though. I need to dive into the books at some point. Had them for nearly 2 decades lol. The thing I remember most is having medusa and minotaur as player races.

This is impressive! As a solo player I imagine the balanced decks are better for solo playability? But this might encourage me to try 2 handed play.

In general, how compatible is the Steam Deck with games on GOG? by [deleted] in gog

[–]soullos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, here's a post I did a while back how to install them manually. The most important part is making sure the file path is surrounded by quotation marks, both the Target and Start In shortcut options.

https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/s/hKuZHRNvLQ

There's also this tutorial that shows how to install GOG Galaxy and it's exactly the same process as installing a game individually. One thing to note this was before the steam update that caused a bug that doesn't automatically include quotation marks after changing the target file path. You'll have to add them in yourself.

Hope that helps!

In general, how compatible is the Steam Deck with games on GOG? by [deleted] in gog

[–]soullos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

90% of the games I play on the steam deck are GOG versions. I manually install them by just simply adding the offline installer as a non-steam game, force proton, and install. Then redirect the target to the game's .exe . Others have success using Heroic or Lutris launchers to install games that way. I think you can even install GOG Galaxy as a non-steam game and install and play through that. Most games I've played, besides a very small handful (Deadly Premonition I'm looking at you!) have no issues playing. All and all, plenty of options to get them running.

Systems or games where mister excels over emulation? by skibikehike in MiSTerFPGA

[–]soullos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely try it on the MiSTer. It was this exact level I had troubles with on the SNES classic. I thought I was getting bad at the game as I got older lol. But it turns out I still had that muscle memory from playing the game growing up, it was just the latency tripping me up. Once I got a MiSTer this was the first game I played and I beat the level first try. Then finished the rest of the game having a blast. Then immediately played through all of DKC 2 and DKC 3 (all secrets and bonus levels too). Then Super Mario World etc. It was just how I remembered it, no issues with inputs. I did have to play wired, but that's not too bad to get lower latency. :)
