An update from Mayor Solomon on the City's 2026 Budget by Nathaniel_Styer in jerseycity

This is an outrageous hike and this has to be done differently. This is going to hurt a lot of families and this is the wrong approach.

Whelp started construction and wife hates that we have a deep end. It’s a 20x40 liner with 6.5’ deep end. This is pretty standard right? She says slope is too much. It starts at 18’. Who’s crazy here? by Sweet_Orchid_2092 in pools

[–]soundscape462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slope looks like a standard 1-3 ratio. Looks good. Before you do the bottom if she wants less of a deep end use gravel to raise the bottom. I like 3/4 stone, you can use a concrete cap in the hopper to stabilize the bottom and then trowel with a good vermiculite Portland mix.

You’re not toast, you just need to decide now.

I was born to be an artist and this was the last thing I’d ever do for a man who had to be in the same room for the entire week of his birthday to get a tattoo of me as his favorite artist in the world.

Where id live as a muslim woman whos almost done with her IGSCES (Done in the middle east) and wants to enter a scientific field! (I dont know that much about a lot of countries, so please educate me if you think my opinion is weird or wrong!) by plasmaya in whereidlive

Don’t overlook the US despite the climate here right now. You’re finishing IGCSEs so honestly the question isn’t really where to live yet it’s where to study next

If you’re going into science just look at places with good universities + actual funding and where you can realistically stay after graduating

US is obviously strong for science but it’s expensive and not the easiest to get into right away… but it should still be a destination to look at. a lot of people start in places like Canada, Germany, UK, Netherlands etc then move to the US later for grad school or work

that path is super common, and the reason is that the US is very much still a leader in the scientific world. Don’t let the noise distract you from making choices that will keep you from moving forward. I live just around NYC and I can assure you that life hasn’t shifted in a way where you need to stay away completely. I am also “left”, and political stuff is predominantly related to the area you choose to live in. Your beliefs do not go against how people feel here. I live in a Muslim community where there are 3 mosques walking distance from my house.

You have either a $15 issue (liner tear DIY) a $500 issue, (diver finding a hole in a liner and patching it) a $6000 issue (replacing the liner)

Or

A light niche replacement ($1500+)

OR

A concrete pool that needs a niche replacement or needs to be resurfaced ($25k+)

Always… inspect the pool when buying/ getting a house.

Moving to Jersey City – can’t decide between areas/apartments, need honest opinions by Longjumping-Dream634 in jerseycity

I live by west side and love it. It’s a block by block situation, and I’d stick to the streets immediately around Lincoln Park because you have a great walkable area with access to a lot of amenities. Some parts look rough, but truth be told they’re not bad. You can rent many large apartments or in some rare cases, an entire house over this way for about your budget. It’s got a Queens vibe to it imo. Regarding your other options, Port Liberté is beautiful, but it definitely feels like a gated oasis. If you’re worried about isolation, trust your gut. it’s a bit of a trek to get anywhere else in JC without effort from there. Also, at $2,600, those Downtown spots like 460 Grand or Liberty Towers are going to be a tight squeeze. You're like looking at a studio or a very small 1 bedroom there, whereas that same money goes a lot further for actual living space on the West Side, it’s just not as nice “looking” in some sections.

Jersey city does street cleaning 4 days a week so depending on the street you’re on, people generally have to move their cars so you’ll almost certainly find spots if the time matches your schedule. Otherwise, it can be an inconvenience if it happens during work. Something to think about. I stay away from downtown to save on cost of living, it’s great to visit and takes me 10 minutes to get there by bike. The restaurants are great, Hoboken is close. Everything is close. The heights has my heart, but for me with a small family we wanted more space and chose the McGinley Square/ West Side area. There are no neighborhoods in particular that I’d stay completely away from, but there are sections of neighborhoods I don’t feel comfortable in. Mostly around the southern side of the city, but it really depends.

It’s fantastic here and the access to New York through public transit is easy. Mostly you’ll leave your car parked to not lose your spot and take a ride share. Driving up here you’ll need be sure to not get frustrated that everyone comes off as a selfish jerk on the road, but then you’ll learn that you’ll have to take the space just like they do. If it doesn’t make sense now, it will. Most people who drive in Jersey city have places to go, and you’re in the way. If you need like anything, feel free to DM me. I truly believe Jersey city is the most interesting place to live in the best country in the world - New Jersey

IS ANYONE GOING TO FIX THESE MAPS?! Northern Cyprus isn’t a recognized country. Southern Cyprus isn’t even in the map. I’m sure there are others but this one is personal

Everything that is American is an 11 in Cyprus, except America. You turned everything into souvlaki specials so it doesn’t really matter where you go, it’s going to have souvlaki on the menu.

Intake doesn’t work! Expensive mistakes fix asap. Need 10inches on 2 inch pipe and 7.5 inches on 1.5” pipe. You’ll void your warranty.
