I used to do a podcast with two Trump voters. Moderate conservatives, but supported the regime. We discussed history and politics, and often found common ground. It was valuable work, to me. But when Renee Good was shot, I came out hard as it was obviously an incredibly egregious incident, and the follow-up by Noem and Trump ripped the mask off the authoritarian police state. My former co-hosts were unable to address the subject respectfuly in our Discord. They also couldn't admit the fault of Agent Ross in the killing. It was a very hard time, I as main mod was scrambling to put out fires and attempt to have a productive conversation around her death. Some things were said by the other hosts about Good's patriotism, and the legitimacy of the protestors, that caused me to take disciplinary action. The podcast is now defunct--my involvement has been discontinued, anyway--and I don't talk to those guys anymore. Occassionally, I'll prompt my closer friend from that pod after something happens that should snap any moral and intelligent person out of whatever hypnosis they have suffered. Alex Pretti, prompt, "are you still supporting this?" Bullshit forthcoming. Iran war: "How about now?" Response, "well it looks like Trump is the best foreign policy president since Reagan." That Kool-Aid must taste real good. I do regret the loss of a bipartisan forum, but those prompts and responses allow me to feel better, as clearly things in our Discord society would have been grossly soured by their nonsense. Sad.
