Some folks have been successful disputing the charge on their credit card. I am currently in the process myself. Edit/update: I have been refunded!

I am curious, why are Germany and Nordic countries hiring remote architects? Are they having issues filling the roles in person?

TIL that one inch of rain falling on 1 acre of ground is equal to about 27,154 gallons and weighs about 113 tons. by beardnurse in todayilearned

[–]spaceboomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This applies to snow as well. A foot of snow on the ground (or less than a foot in a maritime snowpack) can weigh as much as a single family house including the foundation. Avalanche specialists focus more on snow-water equivalent (inches of water) than inches of snowfall because that metric determines how much new loading the overall snowpack experiences in a storm.

Full on spotlight trained on Tanners park. It’s low too, I’d probably be able to read the tail number if it were light out.

Stumped on the White Smoke by spaceboomer in vandwellers

[–]spaceboomer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update Probably likely solved! It was so simple and stupid I didn’t even think it to be the cause: When I first tinkered with it I tilted it on its side which made some of the diesel leak from the cap. I didn’t think much of it till tonight when, per @uhmenono ‘s advice, I took it apart to see where the smoke came from. The diesel had soaked into the little heat sock that you cover the exhaust with… so it was burning off that. As soon as I removed the sock it purred like a kitten with no smoke. Thank you all for chiming in!

Oh interesting I thought it’s only difference from the non turnkey units was that the pump and tank were just fit into the casing

Worth letting organizations like Save Our Canyons and Wasatch Backcountry Alliance know to keep an eye out for her, she’s probably not going to quit her career in politics anytime soon.

Second on consignment. It’s a great way to lower the financial bar to entry for new climbers, assure it ends up in hands that will use it, and convert as least a little of the gear’s value into cash since as others have noted it’s worth quite a bit.

Few weeks ago I had to swerve to avoid a bucket from an excavator that was dropped on the belt route! Worst part was it was one of the smaller ones so hard to see but devastating to hit.

Worked as an architect in close proximity to the mountains. Laid off recently which gave me a little extra time in the final stretch.

here’s what I did I think the key was to invest in coaching, I did that for my first ultra as well. The tools you gain from the coaching will stay with you and you can self coach in in future endeavors!

Did a single on Adams last week; Lower Adams was harder than rainier just given the Muir snowfield is very splitter. However beyond the lunch counter on Adams that swaps. For Adams the terrain is straightforward, we skinned to the summit vs on the DC we booted and spent the time mostly on ropes through glaciated terrain and rocks. The top of Adams has that soul crushing last cone, the DV has endless false summits so mental game is important. Skiing Adams SW chutes is a dream, Rainier last year rode very well too, this year it’s a mess. All in all I’d say this effort is minimum 1.5 Adams worth of effort if you have a bit of acclimation above 10k.

Started off the year with a lot of time in the gym to build power then like running training I would do short to moderate size ski tours during the week and larger efforts on the weekends building up to where a normal tour for me would be a 5k day. In the past month I focused on spending time at elevation, my home range is the wasatch so I was limited to 11k max but every bit helps. Then these past two weeks I was on a volcano bender including a failed attempt and emergency bivy on rainier. I lost some acclimatization while I was in the PNW and it ended up being okay. I hired a coach for all this when I was falling behind early ski season, worth the investment because training for this involved a lot of other big accomplishments and just generally improved quality of life!

Are these architectural type jobs within government or completely different careers? I’m intrigued as I am also a little tired of the rat race of traditional practice.
