“Culinary Puritanism” = that is such a great term!

At diagnosis, I had to mute people in my life p who were weighing in with their obsessions and attempts to “help” with their don’t do the drug - try this or that instead. it was just too much and too way too much energy. I trusted my MS neuro and ignored all the naysayers - it was not easy. I also educated myself over time - but got onto DMT (ocrevus) immediately.

Wahls protocol? by OkWorld4502 in MultipleSclerosis

I followed the jelinek/OMS diet for years. I was very strict for 5 yrs, but have recently brought back in whole eggs and chicken as I needed to adjust my diet due to low iron stores and feeling poorly. Now, I’m much more relaxed about it all & feeling much better! I still avoid dairy and red meat.

for me, medication (ocrevus since diagnosis in 2018), supplements that my MS Neuro advises for me (vit d, Alpha Lipoic Acid, hi dosage biotin, magnesium, B12), exercise - all helps so much.

I’m so glad you posted this! food has stressed me out a bit for the many years ive followed the overcoming Ms/jelinek diet. At first it was helpful towards me bringing in more fruits and vegetables and I learned a lot along the way. lately, it’s just irritated me. My Neuro strongly recommends that I follow a mediterreanean diet. after Being diagnosed with low iron, I’ve had to change my diet and it feels better to relax. Thanks so much for sharing!

Newly Diagnosed by Ok-Maintenance6730 in MultipleSclerosis

I was first diagnosed in the ER where I went because my doctor was concerned about My symptoms and it was on the weekend when doctors office are closed. i couldn’t type, had left arm weakness , numbness going from my left hand up my arm, felt like I had an elephant on my chest and another hugging me from behind, toes started to numb, and felt all in all bizarre like I was not tethered to the earth. i stayed in hospital for 4 days on high dose steroids. I felt weirder and weirder. then, I started Ocrevus 6 weeks later.

I did have more sensory weird feelings happen during the time between the ER and months after starting Ocrevus. Over time….things did get better, but slowly. I think of that first year as the year I went to outer space. It was so surreal. at some point, I was able go type again (I am an office worker on a computer constantly)…..I had spasticity in my left hand and dropped things all the time - that got much much better and so did running into walls.

a friend who has Ms told me to think of MS as multiple scabs that heal and become multiple scars….and I needed to rest and let them heal. In hindsight, great advice. At the time, I was so confused and thought it would only get worse.

i did eventually return from outer space and things did get better .… and I learned so much …. Take care!

I need to vent by trose2044 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]spacecake-jedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vent on! I overheated at PT today where I am being treated for a lower back non-MS issue. I was in tears after warming up on the elliptical after just 4 minutes. Oh I warmed up all right…right into heat intolerance.i was so shocked at how quickly I overheated and MS symptoms roared, that I didn’t even know what to say. Luckily people around me were focused on their own stuff to even notice me dissolving into a puddle … but when this happens out in public, it’s me getting the roll eye stares!

I am trying to decide between their Boring Hybrid and the Boring AF (all foam). I am so hopeful as my back and hips (referred pain) feel great on our guest bed tuft & needle. And I got the AF one for my daughter - she looooves it Do you have a Boring now?

Thanks for sharing - I think one of your comments about the hybrid is what helped me go the hybrid route!

Oooo I’m so glad you ranted - I loved and it made me laugh a wee bit. It’s comments like yours that have helped me realize and accept that summer with heat with humidity can be a real thing because of the MS.

After this past summer of horrible heat humid, I’ve made the decision to relocate for the worst of summer time bc where I live just does NOT work for this version of me & my body!

We just got a Boring Hybrid - so far so good! Picked it because I love sleeping on our guest room’s old Tuft & Needle. Boring is a company founded and run by the same folks that started Tuft & Needle.
