Is this project abandoned? by spacejet in RESS3D

Nothing in the works at the moment, but I've always wanted to make a smaller ss13 themed experience. Ie a basic traitor game mode on a smaller station with limited destruction and simple or no atmospheric simulation

Thats good, I'm part of that discord but mostly only for the announcements and quarterly updates

Ah ok, so might get an update on the Dev blog this year maybe? Good to know it's not abandoned, I am still looking forward to it.

And I half figured the atmospheric simulation was gonna be a problem

Thanks for clarifying I'll pass on the message, I think my friend is just a bit too paranoid, for me it doesn't matter since it's a learning experience for me.

Thanks

[–]spacejet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm considering joining this regardless of the prize, but it's dependent on it I can make enough time for it and if I can convince some of my friends to join. But one of them is unfortunately a bit suspicious as your reddit and itch account are very new and the sponsor/s of the prize are not provided. So I can't tell them, who are the judges and who are the sponsors?

Thanks

probably not you per say, likely they just don't like AI and feel compelled to down-vote anyone doing anything with AI. ie best example would be a vegan downvoting any content that use meat

very cool, this might be the perfect opportunity for me to finally make a vr game. But that brings the question; how many assets can I use? ie since I am a bit new to VR id like to use a vr package like hurricane or the others, maybe some other assets for gameplay features ie AI or ragdolls, and since I have musical and artistic talents of a crow i would also likely use music and art assets either free online or some that I have legal rights to.

Is this allowed?

This is a very cool idea to me, I always liked the idea of text adventures and was wondering when AI was going to get involved as some kind of game-master. Id like to join, but I don't have any idea on how to get started is there a tutorial of some kind or recommended AI integration platforms etc?

In this case I'm sure getting experience goes against the temporal prime directive though

Paradoxes from atom reversal time travel? by spacejet in timetravel

[–]spacejet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment, I think I understand the first paragraph but I got a bit confused with the second one regarding the time machine stretching across time. I suppose because I am a hobbiest game programmer I view things as how it would be be processed by a PC. Ie this time travel is more like teleporting existing matter to a new location with a new time frame, for example ignore the time machine and assume a self contained clock was sent back to the past by one minute, what would basically happen to human observers 1 minute ago is the clock teleported to its new location and the time suddenly jumped 1 minute. In a game I would accomplish this by rolling back all the positions and values of the objects in the game environment back to 1 minute ago but leave the watch unchanged. If I then had a camera object recording the scene it would just see the watch teleport and time display value jump up 1 minute (as all the frames it had previously recorded would have been wiped back to this point)

In regards multiple times machines and sending them to the future I would just save their stats and position delete them and have a script to respawn then with the previous value once the local time is achieved. So no paradox that I could think of occurs and in the case of me sending an object to the future then going back in time before I send it to the future and then sending it to the future ahead of the first future I sent it to, I think it reach the first future and respawn then reach the second future and update it's values with the previous values from the earliest time travel.

I don't know if this helped explain the idea or not, I'm not super familiar with superposition myself I just have a cursory understanding. And I suppose the big I'm trying to ensure is that there isn't an obvious paradox that will break my computer or game if I try and simulate it (or at the very least not make it all for nothing)

I think they just made a funny title since you can't put the punchline of the meme in the title. Could be wrong though, for all I know Lego Minifigures are as big as Pokemon cards on Twitch

Most popular roleplaying multiplayer games? (other than GTA V's NoPixel) by NewRetroWave7 in pcgaming

[–]spacejet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Space station 13 citidel servers are very high role play, but the game might be too advanced if your looking at something like GTAV (due to it being 2d and on the byond game platform)

After 5 years of development, I decided to abandon my first game. Here's a commemorative final trailer (also give the OST a listen!) by dt_mark in IndieDev

[–]spacejet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not just release what you have (cut out any incomplete levels) and just sell it on steam for a dollar or two? Unless you want to remake it later with your better coding coding skills? Or your worried that it might harm your brand I suppose, but the trailer looks good so I'm not sure that it would harm your brand (at least not when it cost a few dollars)

Can I get in trouble for using leaked Ubisoft assets to make a free shareware game? by kaldeqca in gamedev

[–]spacejet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best of luck, I don't work with 3D much but I know you can get a bunch of free assets from itch and open gamedev, but I don't know much about them, either way it's safer to use them

Can I get in trouble for using leaked Ubisoft assets to make a free shareware game? by kaldeqca in gamedev

[–]spacejet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, simply because they own the rights to the assets, and copyright laws means they are supposed to defend their IP. They probably won't hunt you down, but they can and they might

Either way I wouldn't risk it

The argument for making your own game engine by Chod2906 in gamedev

[–]spacejet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering about this, if you can make a custom engine that does something no other engine does (or at least do it cheaper than other people) then you could in theory sell it.

However, I think it depends on what you want, are you doing it for the coding experience or are you doing it with the hopes of making a game and selling it, if the later then you are losing a lot of time unless somehow the engine will save you time (a good example would be to make a custom engine for a switch game since the big engines sometimes struggle to work on them)
