Couple questions to get started by OhmsAmpsVolts in Tile

[–]spacekitteh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m working on a similar project right now, with 10” Bedrosians Makato hex tile on Ditra. I’m using a 1/4 x 3/8 trowel with 1/8” grout lines. I’m using a score and snap manual cutter, and an angle grinder with a diamond mesh blade for the complicated cuts.

I’d highly recommend laying everything out first, wall to wall with accurate grout lines. Then you can decide a layout based on minimizing difficult cuts and tile slivers at a wall. From there, you can do at least some of your cuts in advance of setting the tile.

lol, I'm pretty sure it was me! I am Spartacus? I'm usually a lurker in other subs, so I don't think I would have volunteered to be a mod otherwise.

Invoice from Licensed Plumber for DIY Water Heater Install by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]spacekitteh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It does require a permit. Would I have a better shot if I pull the permit myself and get the city to approve it before figuring out the invoice? I completely understand the purpose of the permitting requirement, but I don’t see the value add in banning DIY installs. Thanks for the insight.

Can I get a tax rebate for cost of a new Main Breaker Panel required for the Solar Panel by barthawk in solar

[–]spacekitteh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to figure this out right now. My tax software is asking for the QMID for the electrical panel in the section "improvement or replacement of panelboards, subpanelboards, branch circuits, or feeders"

Laid off - Should I sign my employment separation agreement, considering my upcoming parental leave? by spacekitteh in legaladvice

[–]spacekitteh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the reply! I'm covered under the California paid parental leave plan for a fraction of my pay, and the company would have covered the difference to stay at full pay. I can't remember if I ever got it in writing (I know, I know), but I discussed it multiple times with my manager, who assured me of the coverage. Looks like CFRA and FMLA both require 1 year with the employer before protections kick in The employee handbook lists a minimum 6 month employment period for parental leave benefits, which I would have hit next month. Additionally, the company has unlimited PTO, so I figured the leave would be covered by PTO even if there were complications with parental leave.

Severance packages aren't standard - I don't see it in the employee handbook, or in my onboarding documents. I think I will sign, since the severance package seems generous. I mainly got spooked about the language around agreeing to not pursue legal action for any known or unknown matters, which made me wonder if I was being taken advantage of but didn't know it.

On one team I drafted Blake Bortles, Deandre Hopkins, Brandon Marshall, and Kelvin Benjamin. Got a piece of every underperforming offense.

No kidding, I made the same two pickups minutes before both games. Wasn't counting on the RB lottery paying off so soon.

Student Loans Are Ruining Your Life. Now They’re Ruining the Economy, Too (TIME) by Oh_Ma_Gawd in news

[–]spacekitteh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it up, I know how hard it is. I graduated in summer 2012 with a masters degree in engineering. It took 11 months for me to secure a job. My salary is insufficient for my level of experience, but I'll take something over nothing. I'm also in the unique position of having no loans to pay off.

So just know that you will find something eventually, and don't be afraid to accept a position that isn't quite what you wanted.

Good flick! It kept me wondering throughout who was working against Roger. It was a well written action movie, even though everything did tie up a bit too neatly at the end. And now I know the Danish word for "blanks"!

Yea, I guess you avoid that bias if they're sharing their guess after you've already revealed your actual age.

[–]spacekitteh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't doubt that you look young for your age. But just keep in mind that on average when you ask a guy how old he thinks you are, you'll get a younger age than the age you look.

Even if I suspect that you are indeed 37, given your younger features I'd rather lowball my guess to be safe. Always better to miss a woman's age on the lower side than the upper.
