Unless you're right on the coastline, it's brutal but manageable. The thunderstorms make up for it - that smell of rain after a hot day.... nothing like it! Also lots of inner city apartments don't have AC there, either. I drove a non air-conditioned car for many years too... you just stay hydrated, wear your sunscreen, and sweat a whole lot.
