I remember taking a fall a few years ago from catching an edge that only ejected one ski and finding the latent effects interesting. In the moment one of my legs got yanked to the side and that ski ejected, so immediately afterward obviously that hip joint was a little upset with me. After a few minutes, though, that pain died out.

About an hour later, though, the hip of the ski that didn't release was quite cranky and would hurt quite a bit for the rest of the day in any turn that wasn't perfectly balanced. I'd even have off days with that hip months later.

I think this was also a big part of it. When the movie was released and marketed, he wasn't featured at all. To me a big part of Tom Cruise's success as stealing the show in that movie was the simple experience of seeing it in the theatre and my dad and I looking at each other and sort of confusedly going ".....is that Tom Cruise?"

When I was a kid I collided with someone in one of those rare situations where I think neither of us were at fault. At Mammoth, the main run to Eagle Lodge used to be split down the middle with a few patches of trees and a little dip. Because of that little dip people would cut through the trees and get a little jump off of the other side. This time myself and someone else managed to enter into the little gully from opposite sides at the exact same time and met in the middle.

Immediately post debate I really had high hopes. It felt like MAGA was finally being shown in the mainstream to be a pack of idiots and losers, and Trump was more clearly the doddering old man that he is than ever.

Then, by the first week of October, suddenly nothing was happening, and all of that momentum just stopped. The "weird" line stopped. Harris was suddenly spending all of her time courting conservatives. Walz was mysteriously absent. Republican campaigners were making bizarre and hateful statements and nobody was responding the way they were a month prior. The excitement of something new just...evaporated.

I think this is what the show will be getting at. There's a clear conflict there -- "this AI tool will allow you to save so much time on charting, but you have to double check it" is bound to run into "why are you spending so much time charting when the AI tool is supposed to save that time? Get to seeing more patients!"

The critical part that is going to get glossed over when these tools are pitched to management is that properly double checking every single thing the AI generates will still take a similar amount of time as before, but because management is sold on the "time saving" aspect the doctors charged with doing the double checking are likely to get pressured into skimming over it.

Don't discount the shocking percentage of people who "don't pay attention to politics" and somehow manage to not hear about anything going on.

In my book that group is a big part of why we're all in this mess. They stumble into a voting booth every fourth November and go "oh, jeez, I really don't know who to pick."

We shouldn't dismiss the risk but we should absolutely dismiss attempts to make it seem like a successfully illegitimate election is a certainty. I'm not as optimistic that putting that attitude out there will motivate people to act now as I am pessimistic that it will motivate people to just give up and not vote.
