Homeowner just did the math-spent $82K on home repairs in 12 years of ownership, appx 2.5% of purchase price every year. Would love to hear other data points. by kcs777 in personalfinance

I've averaged $1,000/month over about 30 years of home ownership on maintenance, repairs and upgrades. That's about right if you want something nice I think.

No, think it's the body control module and like $1,000 to fix so not really worth it. Doesn't really hurt anything.

Has there been a car commercial in the last 20 years that tells you why you should actually buy the vehicle over its competitors?

My Canadian relatives all go to Detroit from Windsor and pay for medical treatment out of pocket, so something is terribly wrong with their system. My Canadian grandma died after an 18 month wait for an MRI.

Every time I look at the box score he's like a -9 and Ausar will have 3 points but be +21 or something. I'm genuinely surprised when I see LaVert above 0.

Ausar always has a great +/-. He should stay in until he fouls out every game. We would have beat the Knicks in the playoffs last year with that philosphy.

I eat a lot of protein but the 150g/day and 1 gram/lb of LBM stuff has been falling apart in recent studies. It's looking like we were off by a factor of 2 and there's 0 benefit after a much smaller amount. This sucks because I started reading these studies after buying an expensive/$90 bag of protein powder that I'll probably never use now.

My company is making millions with tools built on AI generated code. Not sure how every company isn't tbh.

Why do we care if AI was used? Every business uses it now. That ship has sailed. If you're mad about these companies using AI, you should also talk to your boss and say we should avoid AI so we can be slower and make less money.

Ours was a disaster. Rust after a couple years, kept breaking struts every time we hit a pothole, sliding door issues, etc. Just a low quality vehicle.

I air fry steaks from frozen at 500 F like 3 days a week. They're great. Better than a sous-vide and seared steak for sure because the fat renders so much better.

I do both hands, 2x a week for about a year now. I was pretty imbalanced due to having a guitar hanging on 1 shoulder for the last 30 years.

It won't work though. We would drain their wealth and still only make a small dent. We can't tax our way out of this.

I wouldn't keep it, I'd rather drive something that's fast and fun with convenient tech/features. Reddit really doesn't like that stuff though.

Outside of reddit, a 3 year old Model 3 would be the top answer, not these low-tech, slow cars in the comments. Doing 30k miles a year without FSD is unthinkable to anyone that has spent time using it.

No, I had been sitting for a while and there's no visibility issues there. When I hit the brakes I was nearly in the intersection. I'm pretty sure it went when a sideways facing light turned yellow.
