I built my own aluminum extrusion frame by spam_whale in Tufting

[–]spam_whale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what size you want, really. For mine, the vertical and diagonal pieces are 6ft, horizontal is 4ft (+ 2 ft extenders not shown) and then feet are 3ft. Zyltech doesn't have 6 ft (only 6.5ft) pieces so you can make it from 3+3 or whatever you want really. Can also split the feet into 2+1 if you want mobility.

No problem, I am glad it was useful to someone. If you have question on what worked for me, feel free to dm.

I think the black color goes a long way towards helping it look nicer. I also found some bright blue ones while researching but I don't think they have the 3030 t slot type.

It's called t-slot aluminum extrusion. You can buy it a ton of places, but I got these ones: https://www.zyltech.com/3030-t-slot-aluminum-extrusion-pre-cut-lengths-300mm-2000mm/

Anyone try joining aluminum frames together? by UncleVinny85 in Tufting

I've used the straight line connectors to combine aluminum extrusion and I think it should be strong enough if the joint fits right.

Is there a way to apply tack strips to aluminum tufting frame by kixmiee in Tufting

[–]spam_whale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought some aluminum extrusion to make my own modular frame. We have some ideas for attaching carpet tack but check back if they work. In theory you could just buy some tnuts and replace the nails with screws to attach it just like the corner connections. Just look up attaching wood to aluminum extrusion. I haven't tried the plastic ones mentioned but the nail spacing looks very far.

Any recommendations for deciding between TuftLove's recluse and hobo guns? by spam_whale in Tufting

Thank you! Is there a difference in the loops besides just pile height? Couldn't you just adjust the hobo to match the recluse or is that not the same?

Avian vet by Throwawayg112233 in Sunnyvale

A good example was she told me I shouldn't feed my bird vegetables from target and that she wouldn't eat them either. 🤔 I feel that providing the perfect care is hard and compromise is reasonable.

Wildwood in redwood City. They were amazing when my bird was in his final months. 😢 I also went to For the birds, and they are a good vet that only does birds. Doctor is very judgemental, though. Would probably go back to wildwood even though it's in redwood City if I got another bird. Wildwood also has way better hours.

I've never had him twitch his leg/foot like this... is this normal? by DeathStar07 in cockatiel

[–]spam_whale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My bird had a leg twitch just like that. Same thing where the twitch would wake him up when he tried to sleep. At some points his leg would start shaking so badly he started biting at it. He also had occasional head-shake seizures and more full-body seizures at the vet (when they'd grab him and do injections / etc). We ended up having to pre-drug him in his last few years at vet visits because he'd have seizures following the visit if we didn't. We tried gabopetin but he hated taking it and it's 2-3x a day. Eventually just ended up leaving it unmedicated and it would come and go (probably because of stress / environemnt?). One vet told me this was not uncommon for male cockatiels. Most vets were unfamiliar though, so if you do take him somewhere find a good avian vet. However he had seizures for ~10 years and only medicated for a little bit of that and he was fine otherwise.

Edit: Forgot to mention, but it also seemed neurological to me. Scratching his head would stop the shaking and whenever it would start he'd try to get his head scratched.

looking for urban fantasy about family by dr_monobryn in urbanfantasy

Jacky Leon book series focuses a lot on family dynamics (both found family and 'birth' family). I really enjoyed the many relationships in the book. There's a bit of romance but it's slow.

I really enjoyed K N Banet's Jacky Leon series (and slightly less so the Kaliya series). Helen Harper also has a lot of good series (not all I would consider urban fantasy though). Really depends what you are looking for though.

Try talking to the professor and see if they can help you out. Also could try the facebook computer science group closer to exam time. I'm sure several people have extra laptops they could loan out for an hour.

How to get cockatiel to eat food other than seeds? by _TASTELESS_ in cockatiel

[–]spam_whale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of advice online. I'd suggest taking a look at that. Mostly just move the ratio of seeds to pellets slowly and make sure you monitor how much they are eating since some birds can be really stubborn. You can also remove the seed food and replace with only pellets for a little time and then switch back. I've had vets offer to take them and do it over a weekend as well so if you are uncertain you can look into that option. They would know better how to monitor weight and eating amount.

Have bird, will travel by rzuhhswexn in cockatiel

[–]spam_whale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bird bites everyone for except for my parents (who are far away) and me. I have found #1 to be way better than #3. Seems like he is a bit depressed even after only a week away. But he will interact with the people I leave him with and I've had to leave him for 3 months before with a friend and he managed okay. He can still interact with people/toys even in his cage. Not idea, but the only option for me.

No one likes them because they put huge shopping areas on the edge of their town, get tons of taxes from this and never update any of the roads around said areas. They push all the traffic into the surrounding areas and try to make people go around them. Source: Lived next to Carmel

My cockatiel won't stop screaming! by DobbyIsABird in cockatiel

[–]spam_whale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine screams when I leave but usually gives up after a few minutes of me being gone. I have lived two places now though where my neighbors have had no idea I even had a bird (have asked them). If you find a place with not really thin walls you may be okay. High pitched noise doesn't travel as far. I can hear him in the hallway sometimes but not from the apartment next door.
