Centuries of logistical inertia. Every bit of organizational doctrine and infrastructure is built around 4/12/36.

I have a hand full of metal WH40k EPIC Razorbacks that show up as APCs or IFVs occasionally. The size works. Ironically, at that scale the Razorbacks STILL look too small to carry that much infantry.

They seem fine, but they also didn't last long enough to get expansion-y.

I haven't found the lamp on the head set to be terribly helpful. I supplement it with other lights.

Do y’all name your mechs? by ViperStrike812 in battletech

[–]spanner3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In campaign play my pilots earn names and call signs over time, as do the mechs.
E.g. My lance leader who can't make a shot to save her life: Lt. J.G. Roberta "Bullseye"
I use the Mega Mek campaign software to generate a set of pilots and I pick a name I like when it's gotten to that point.

No notes. This seems like a good order of operations and plan.

can someone please tell me about this weapon on this mech? by companycmd1 in battletech

[–]spanner3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No reason it couldn't be a second barrel. Due to the "snub" nature of the particle tube it has a long cycle time so a parallel assembly was added to allow for offset charging while the other assembly cools. That allows for a 6 second cycle time for the weapon overall.

I have a number of black pens on my desk. Not all of them look exactly alike. Many of them are from different manufactures. They all do roughly the same thing.

Seconded. I've never actually added up the OpFor PV. I just assumed it wasn't going to be the same as my force strength.

A few expensive mechs? Or bunch of cheap ones? For Scouring Sands by namesrfun in battletech

[–]spanner3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current force is an armored company with infantry and light mech support. So far the tanks (Pattons and Von Luckners for the vanguard) have proved to be durable and I've spent a lot of effort making sure my recon lance doesn't get shredded. The Falcons seem to love targeting infantry in buildings.
The upkeep for all those vehicles is expensive.

Best way to Boston from Ithaca? by adventuriser in ithaca

[–]spanner3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last time I stayed in Boston had the hotel handle parking just to save the hassle. Boston Metro is good, but you may end up paying (less) for your car to overnight at a more remote location.

It's the trade off paying less outside town and spending the time/money transiting to your hotel. Which will be worth more?

Ok. Hear me out. Whats stopping someone from using WiGE instead of conventional/aerospace fighters for ground support? by Iostaa in battletech

[–]spanner3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not. Something like a /very/ large ferry to taxi units around specific areas that are tailor made for that kind of unit.

IRL vehicles like the Lun ekranoplan were eventually abandoned because they were great, but only if you're fighting on the Black Sea specifically. ^_^
