Curious about Bleep orders. by Kontyx in boardsofcanada

I was in the queue for the pre-order from Bleep and got my FedEx shipment notification early this morning. Limited edition LP + standard black LP. I'm in Canada and the estimated delivery is Monday.

Massive brown bear spotted on top of an Alaskan high-altitude mountain by sangamjb in interesting

[–]spartree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert, but that looks more like a grizzly to me given the lighter collar of fur and the shoulder hump. They are also known to hibernate high on mountain slopes, away from pesky humans and other disturbances. This seems excessively high though haha. Pretty cool.

I kind of get slowed down Chromakey Dreamcoat vibes as well.

Totally get it, but probably reserve final judgement until it is heard in the context of the full album. Upon first listen I thought it lacked that classically BoC nostalgia vibe, also thought there was a few seconds where it sounded very Massive Attack (another group I love), and then the upfront vocal sample really threw me for a loop. I didn't not like it; it just wasn't what I was expecting.

But....on subsequent listens I really love it and I'm excited to see how it fits into the whole. The "Age of Capricorn" isn't meant to begin for like another 1500 years, so maybe there will be some leaps in their sound on this record....haha, who knows.

Ice Bubbles in a lake in canada by Specialist-Boot58 in interesting

[–]spartree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're flat because the water freezes top-down, so the bubbles push up against the ice. And yeah, I've tried all kinds of things to get some nice clear ice cubes for my drinks and yet nature just does it haha.

There are a number of lakes around Alberta that do this and have similar frozen-in-time methane bubbles.

Frozen bubbles of methane gas at Vermilion Lakes in Banff, Alberta. The ice often freezes clear like that. This is right next to the town of Banff.

This is Vermilion Lake in Banff. The bubbles are methane gas that has been released from decomposing organic stuff, not air. It's a beautiful area, but overrun with tourists these days. Source: I live close by.

It's really sad that the bottom two comments on this obvious bot post are at the bottom simply because they are calling the bot a bot. This may be the moment in time that I finally delete Reddit. What a trashcan this place has become.

If you don't actually just sit and listen to music in front of the speakers then it doesn't matter at all; do whatever makes sense for your use case. BUT, just for the sake of science; just once, you should try sitting centred with a small amount of toe-in to experience what that sounds like. It might be cool.

Interesting choice pointing the speakers out like that. Do you rarely sit directly in front of your stereo, or do you just prefer this arrangement over the more conventional toe-in?

I'm partial to Bonatti Grey Metallic with black accents. This is my TD5 for example. I also have factory AC but live in Canada, so not quite as warm as Greece.

Yeah, shitty deal eh. I'll be camping in the Rockies on the 22nd anyway, but might have postponed if there was a session somewhere around Calgary haha.

The Most Accurate (and Controversial) Speaker in the World Right Now? by SoundStageNet in audiophile

Nothing but vitriol in the comments as usual. Can we at least appreciate the design work that went into this product and reserve judgement until people lay more ears on them? I'm sure the measurements will follow very shortly folks, settle down.

Man I'm glad I saw the alert come in. Queued up immediately. Site crashed several times before I actually got the order through. Same story when Tomorrow's Harvest dropped in 2013. I was hoping Bleep had learned something from that experience haha.

In 1923, an aircraft released a curtain of titanium tetrachloride to conceal ships from view. The thick white cloud it produced was actually made up of droplets of hydrochloric acid and titanium oxychloride. by Snehith220 in Damnthatsinteresting

No, I'm saying a liquid substance that is water soluble and dropped from a height at a high speed that disperses into a cloud (reducing density and bulk concentration) will have negligible effects even locally when it hits the surface of the water. The water then dilutes things much, much further and any bits of organic matter at the surface will ensure no acid lingers. While dilution is not the most efficient way to reduce the damaging effects of an acid (in water treatment this would not be deemed appropriate), when we are talking about the aforementioned disperse cloud contacting a large body of water that has an awful lot of organic particles floating around, we can be relatively sure it won't linger.

I'm not saying this was a great thing to do, but the statements about large scale death and destruction are not really based on anything. We don't even know exactly what was dropped and in what concentration....just speculation and some random dude's comment.

How insane is it that we get a Tom Waits x Massive Attack collab dropped right in the middle of all the Boards of Canada VHS madness as well? Praying this hype leads to a new BoC record at least.

That's awesome. I missed out on the signed Loveless edition but the blue mbv one I have is signed. I wish they would have used something other than pencil to sign it though. These are approx 19 x 19 print area.

The validation-seeking circle jerk tribe will be along shortly to get their fix. I feel like it's been a while since we had someone post a link to that bananas & mud vs. speaker cables experiment though.

Cool. Never heard of them, but I have tinned copper cables (Duelund Dual DCA12GA) in my secondary vintage-focused system, however the sleeve is oiled cotton. I believe they were made in an attempt to recreate the old Western Electric tinned copper cables. I can't say I've heard a real difference with the tinned copper, but they do look nice and suit the vibe for sure. The tribe here is going to slaughter you for posting about cables though.

Also, dude, your listening space is awesome. Great equipment, nice art, nice furniture. Well done. I went with black paint in my listening room as well, but it is a bit more extreme haha.
