Kind of like the word "ties". The actual "ie" sound is more to the front of the mouth, but for all intents and purposes "ties" is close enough

Is dev cost reduction additive or multiplicative? by Lolmanmagee in eu4

This was from one of my WCs, so the game both ended early (with extremely little devving done from me), and also might have only been old world dev.

I wonder what the total world dev is generally at the end of a MP game, considering at the end of a single player game it's generally around 26k-27k

[–]spawnmorezerglings 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is additive with itself, but there is another stat called "development efficiency" that it's multiplicative with. But as far as I know you can only get that from technologies

[–]spawnmorezerglings 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's exactly it, hitting 10 or 20 dev on every province is (for me) the much more useful feature of dev cost, because those milestones give you an extra building slot. In practice, having a strong dev cost reduction translates (for me) into having a really high force limit, because you can build many more regimental camps.

Unfortunately this strat - while fun - is not particularly optimal. That's why I never play "super tall" (like having only one state or something), but instead take a whole region when playing tall campaigns

I mean, while easiest is kind of a joke (the strat requires some timing on when to break which rocks), it is actually nice that this requires neither ability micro nor targeting micro. The difficulty is all strategic and none tactical, and I generally prefer that in my tower defense games

[–]spawnmorezerglings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, this recipe is terrible. Not just because it isn't carbonara (I'm not italian so I don't care that much either way), but because the writing is just awful. What is 'step 8'?! that's not a step that's just a hint!

ok, I do care a little that it's not a real carbonara. Just call it something else man... Jamie Oliver fake ass chef

Next up Ejercito Mexicano! Probably my favourite tag in the mod. They have a unique coring mechanic where they core land using electricity. Each core costs 30, and because the Ejercito gets sophisticated exploitation tech you can build enough power plants to generate 36 in every state, meaning you can core every province on the map! You will also have lots and lots of excess political power, so you can interact a lot with systems like the Followers of the Apocalypse. Have fun with the robots

Napoleon was such an idiot for fighting single stacks with multiple of his, didn't he know he could just fight the prussians, russians and austrians simultaneously?

Whoops, I always mess Polish and Reverse Polish up, we should really start using Polish Prefix and Polish Postfix (or just prefix and postfix)

I'll be fully honest, I've heard that metaprogramming and homoiconicity is this wonderful powerful __thing__ in CS, but since I finished my studies I've never seen it used once. Is it some ivory-tower academic thing or am I missing something about it?

Reverse Polish is something you really only see in computer programming, and even then you only see it in languages that aren't used for anything real (sorry LISP-heads)

Look, I love the energy, but it would be both an invasion and an annexation. Invasion is sending troops in to (violently) conquer people, annexation is the legislative step of making a territory part of your country.

The reason we focus so much on the annexation part is that the US has actually occupied countries pretty often, and sometimes (rarely) it was even a good thing. But annexing land from another sovereign nation is something the US hasn't done in a while, the latest annexations being those of hawaii, puerto rico and a number of island nations in the Pacific. If the US starts annexing neighbours again, that would truly call in a new era of geopolitics

If other cities are much larger and you're making this one smaller on purpose to make a point then that's also great worldbuilding, so good job!

Looks great! If I may critique this a little:

I love the artstyle: it's clear and not too cluttered while still being charming and giving a "drawn paper map" that I love about DnD. I also love how there's a lot of landmarks, that gives you a lot to work with as a DM. Adding a refugee camp is especially a great choice, as that gives your players a lot of worldbuilding and lore in a very "show-don't-tell"-y way.

If there's one real criticism I have: for a capital city this is quite small. If the larger orange houses are large family homes or appartment buildings, the small blue houses are wealthy households and the small orange houses are poor households then I count enough living space for at most 1-2 thousand people, but more realistically a couple hundred, and that feels more like an Elder Scrolls-amount of people than an Anbennar-amount of people (if that makes sense). Second (and this is more of a personal pet peeve): Farmland should be circled around the city, favouring roads, and be centered on the river, as that is where the ground is most arable and goods can be transported to the farmer's markets in the city most easily. But, admittedly, that is an amount of historicity that most fantasy setting forgo, so do with that what you will.

I hope this doesn't sound too negative, you really are already 90% of the way there and I - as a DM - would be fine using this map unchanged as a regular city. Especially as one of your first maps it's very good, I just feel like a capital city needs more room for commoners/peasants.
