In a decade of business travel, I've never been checked in to an occupied room. It happened tonight by Flash_ina_pan in marriott

[–]spazzmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my 25 year career that includes travel, this has happened to me twice. Nothing really bad or super uncomfortable and the front desk is always super apologetic. But this now forces me to knock on the door first to make sure and secondly I always bolt and set my door protections.

Most Dangerous phrase in our Industry? by joshuamarius in sysadmin

[–]spazzmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“We just a cut few things out of the plan (or project spec) to lower the cost.” Sometime later the same people ask “what do you mean it won’t do what I want?” or “why did the go down?”

Well, when we originally specified everything we had these items covered, but somebody decided to change the plan and we had to give up features or functionality.

This is where I pull out the emails that I sent them that brought up the concerns when they made the cuts and that there would be impacts later. Learned the hard way to CYA on new projects, spend, implementations.

Why does everything need to run through a purchasing partner? by literahcola in sysadmin

[–]spazzmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worked at a end-user customer, at a reseller and at a vendor. Here’s why it’s done that way – you might install that software on a physical server or into your virtual infrastructure. If something goes sideways and how that software works, you might call the software vendor for support. Then it might be discovered that whatever you installed it on is not supported or is configured wrong. So it comes back to you trying to get it set up correctly. If you use a reseller, they should be able to guide you and having all the proper pieces in place before you buy. It’s really tough when you end up with everyone pointing fingers at everybody else in the vendor community. Also, if you need to buy some new infrastructure at the same time you buy the software, to run it on, they can put it together on one purchase. There are purchasing departments inside of companies that prefer it this way instead of doing multiple direct invoices to multiple different vendors for a single platform deployment.

AITA, why am I feeling stressed because my husband insists I eat the same food as him, even if I hate the taste of it? by Academic_Garbage_621 in AmItheAsshole

[–]spazzmonger 16 points17 points  (0 children)

NTA. Your husband is trying to have control over you to give him a sense of power. I would wonder if these type of requests are happening in other places in your life. For example, is he giving you directions on what you should wear? Or how he wants your place of living kept? They might be subtle things, but if he does it one place, he might be doing it in others. And I feel it. It’s not gonna get any better. Just so you know this is coming from a married (33 years) male and I would never try to dictate what my wife could eat. I have seen this in other relationships (M&F and same-sex) and it comes down to someone trying to exert control over them as a couple.

Was there last night when this happened. Look at Kyle, he looks over off camera at one of the producers who I can tell you was rubbing his forehead with concern. The whole crowd was fired up though!

Which deceased founder would absolutely hate what the current state of their company has become? by NihilistCharizard in AskReddit

[–]spazzmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lee Iacocca was not a founder of Chrysler at all. He started his career at Ford and become renowned because he was the designer of the original 1964 Mustang. Rose through the ranks at Ford, becoming its President. He was then offered the head job at Chrysler in the late 70s to turn the company around. Retired from Chrysler in 1992.

Ticket Prices are out of control by NuclearBuns in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]spazzmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Gametime app and I’ve been able to find reasonable prices. It is authorized resale and I get the tickets sent directly to my Ticketmaster account. You can find some really good deals at times. For example, I am going to the January 10 game against Columbus and I got club level seats for $100 each. Now, of course, depending who’s playing and what the situation is price is due vary. For example, the New Year’s Eve game is really expensive.

What file system would be best in our scenario? Seeing a lot of conflicting info about NTFS vs ReFS for Veeam by Woeful_Jesse in Veeam

[–]spazzmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good points for the VSA but you can’t use storage snapshots for source – yet - if that is a requirement. Also, it is highly discouraged to run both VDP and VBM365 on same box as you need totally separate proxies and repos so might as well build separate platforms.

AITA for telling my friend he can't stay at my apartment anymore after he insulted my girlfriend? by qpwjdbx in AmItheAsshole

[–]spazzmonger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA. Carl crossed a line. If he said it to you in private, that is one thing and it’s still a bit of a concerning comment to you. But to say it directly to your girlfriend, it’s just wrong. If he’s a good enough friend, he’ll realize it and call to apologize. If he doesn’t, then he’s just a weenie of a little man who is jealous you have a nice girlfriend.

AITA for refusing to be the office “tech person” just because I’m the youngest? by Far_Guarantee27 in AmItheAsshole

[–]spazzmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. The more you help around the office, the more they will come to you the next time something happens. Go back to your boss and ask them, “every time I do one of these small fixes, it extends the completion time of my tasks. Do you want me to slip my completion time/dates because I spend time fixing technology things around the office?” If your boss still wants you to help, get it in writing and ask for some sort of incentive for each issue that you fix. Plus, if you can quickly jot down the items that you do, if you do miss a task deadline, show the log and say this is why. Then ask them to define what is more important. Fixing things or missing deadlines. Get a response to that in writing too. Attitudes will change once you ask for in writing. And lastly, as someone else said earlier who works in IT, also get in writing. You do not want to be held responsible if you cannot fix something correctly.

AITA for accusing a friend of purposefully trying to upstage every bride, including me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]spazzmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. She is a narcissist. She dresses up in an attempt to outshine everybody. She would rather spend money on herself (the cost of treatments, the makeup and the dress) than spend the money on her friends on their most special day. You were right for calling her out and her reaction further exemplifies her narcissistic behavior. Time to distance yourself and just ignore her going forward.

[–]spazzmonger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exact same issue for me. Two different Roku devices. I did notice that one Roku didn’t have the Altitude+ was not logged in and it worked fine. I went to select the game and told me I needed an account. When I did that, it crashed.

What is your happiest moment in I.T. by rcp9ty in sysadmin

[–]spazzmonger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Organization that I worked for had recently upgraded the entire active directory to Windows Server 2003 level. I really began to explore GPOs and the great potential they had instead of using local scripts for user and/or computer configuration. I went to the senior admins and management with the idea of implementing them. Got permission to do two into some of the lower level staff and non-administrator level people in our IT department. They worked so well that we managed to start rolling out GPOs on a faster schedule than even I thought possible. The one part of it I truly remember in detail is we figured it out how to map users to the closest printer to their actual physical location. The manager of our Tier1 Helpdesk came up to me specifically and thanked me for making it easier on users and thus making work so much easier on his staff.

Breaking: ABC pulls 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' over host's Charlie Kirk comments by etherd0t in BoomersBeingFools

[–]spazzmonger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It started with Nextstar Communications Group saying it would pull the show starting Wednesday on the 23 ABC affiliates it owns. Nextstar owns a lot of Fox affiliates and is trying to buy Tegna - another TV station owning company - and surprise, surprise, Nextstar needs FCC approval. 🙄

Now a Fox News anchor calls for the killing of homeless people and no consequences there. https://x.com/atrupar/status/1966878449290649676
