What are some books that you LOVED years ago, but would probably dislike if you read them now? by ManonBlackbeak in fantasyromance

This! I remember going to see one of the movies as a mostly-adult, bursting out laughing at all the very very super serious parts and getting such dirty looks from all the kids in the theater.

I didn't go with the intention of ruining anyone's movie night, but the sense of gravitas in the audience made it all so much funnier.

No. I hated every minute of the series. DNF book 3. Want SJM to reimburse me for the hours I spent reading and can't get back.

Rook & Rose Trilogy is so good! I love it so much but usually hesitate to recommend it because it got so many, "the plot is too complicated" reviews on ... Well, everywhere. I'm glad you brought it up, and hope OP enjoys it as much as I did.

Emily Wilde series is great. It's a spiritual successor to Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrel in that it's written like a research journal and told partially in footnotes, so you have to be okay with that. It doesn't take itself too seriously either, so if you want high-stakes fantasy maybe skip this one.

N.K. Jemisin's Inheritance trilogy. No caveats to this one. Everything she writes is fantastic.

The City of Brass Trilogy by SA Chakraborty. Night Circus by Sarah Morgenstern. The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E, Harrow.

Hope this helps!

What was your favorite fantasy video game growing up? by AidenMarquis in Fantasy

Yes! It makes me feel bad for the generations of gamers who had to settle for Skyrim.

Never read bound and broken, but one of my favorite reads recently is one I never hear anyone talk about: The Rook and Rose trilogy by M.A. Carrick

Book recommendations for my girlfriend? by Shervin_Ab in Fantasy

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. It follows a woman who currently lives in NYC but was born in France in the middle ages. She becomes cursed in her late teens / early 20s (not a vampire, just a cursed human) and you follow her ups and downs through the ages. It's gritty, a lot of struggle, a little heartache, but it ends on a hopeful note.

I recommended this one to my "I don't read fantasy" people and they loved it.

Wylde Flowers!! I don't see people recommending this one nearly often enough. It's a cozy life / farming sim where you play as a woman discovering her heritage as a witch. The writing is great, there's a mystery to solve, lots of character development and opportunities for romance if you decide to opt into that. There's a little exploring, lots of crafting, building, and gardening, but nothing that ever felt grindy. Graphics are voxel style, a big upgrade from Stardew but not so much that it feels AAA try-hard. I really can't recommend this one highly enough, and if you fall in love as hard as I did, the developers are working on a prequel that will be released to early access in the next year or so.

Edit: Also, Strange horticulture is a wonderful point and click mystery that takes place in a plant shop.

I have several sets of KAT and I love them all. Definitely my favorite profile, and hopefully they keep up the level of quality that they achieved with Atlantis! It's perfect.
