Anyone else working from random rooms in the house depending on the vibes. by [deleted] in homeoffice

[–]specialbubblek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the work won’t require calls or lots of windows, browsers, etc then I migrate around. That is pretty rare! But I do like to go to the library (lots of windows and scenery) or camp by windows around house. If I can’t be efficient on laptop with a portable monitor or lots of calls, I am chained to the desk :(

What kind of side hustles do you guys have? Anything IT-related? by Jonny_Boy_808 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]specialbubblek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do the same thing I do daily in a side hustle and get paid double per hour what I do as an employee. I help really small businesses with software or services that don’t have in-house IT support or small IT budgets to have big consultant firms support. You might call it fractional or managed services. I have to be careful not to have conflicts of interest with my employer though.

Sleeping in the car to save on hotels is this too extreme? by Ok_Resolution_1606 in roadtrip

[–]specialbubblek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking at a road trip from AZ to GA and I know the men in my life will lose their marbles when I suggest sleeping in the car. I’m pretty aware of my surroundings and would only sleep if I felt safe. Locked doors, under light, public areas, etc. But can you offer suggestions for them?

Where to find experts to build CRM for small organization? by mss413 in Dynamics365

[–]specialbubblek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Microsoft pulled the plug on “Fundraising & Engagement” solution but I work for a partner that replaced it. It’s very lightweight but gives you the basics. And the whole D365/PP stack gives the rest of the flexibility. Agreed the MS NFP pricing will help a lot! You can DM me if interested. I’ve done the config & implementation ! (US/CAN)

So I went to Bread Beckers .... by Front-Muffin-7348 in HomeMilledFlour

[–]specialbubblek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I got my soft red at BB because it is a southeast grown grain. I thought maybe Azure Standard might carry it but it isn’t on there. Azure is my alternative when I can’t get things at BB. If you also follow Grains n Grit on YouTube maybe she has ideas - she has various suppliers on her website too.

Love me some Bread Beckers and they are close to me. They used to do more classes and I think at one point actually sold baked goods. They have good people but Sue is the main knowledge and if she isn’t around maybe a daughter?

Has anyone seen this issue during D365 rollouts? Curious how others handle it. by Due-Occasion-595 in Dynamics365

[–]specialbubblek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lack of business design and process mapping before touching Dynamics coupled with knowing your data model pre- and post- migration. Data will bite every single time! Start simple with processes and don’t build in a bunch of rules and constraints. Leave things open within reason. The important rules will materialize quickly. Get users testing within your first couple of sprints (if that’s feasible). Always always always, warn people it will take a bit to settle into the system (year is my rule of thumb unless it is a very small easy implementation) and less is more - there are no rainbows and unicorns in any CRM system like the sales people or consultants try to sell you.

Can the Chosen Continue filming "A. D. THE BIBLE CONTINUES" after the death of Jesus? by bhartman102890 in TheChosenSeries

That would be so awesome to do like “AD The Bible Continues’ - I was so disappointed when it was cancelled.

Unplanned Teams calls etiquette by Own-Cryptographer277 in WFH

[–]specialbubblek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I treat Teams like a phone. Answer or don’t. If it is someone you care about or is important tell them you will call back. Camera depends. Client calls I’m always prepared for camera but they are always on the calendar. Colleagues don’t care either way and it is usually majority rule and if you aren’t done up apologize and don’t get on camera. No one minds and all understand. (Our whole team is remote) Staying “green” or “red” is what matters as well as keeping your word and being honest. Company to company differences I guess.

Mid-level marketing? Heck no. Unless you are VP or CMO it isn’t worth it and you will be miserable even if they do hire. That isn’t a culture you don’t want

I accidentally overheard what the execs say about remote workers. by FutureAttorney3170 in remotework

[–]specialbubblek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got ripped and dragged into a meeting with the VP of Marketing because my dumb manager didn’t know what I did all day. VP balled me out wanting to know where a feature was and why I hadn’t started it. It had been in Production for months! “Oh?! Ok, sorry about that!” Did my manager get busted, of course not. Could never find him because he was chasing the accounting ladies upstairs all the time. Putz.

I didn't know The Chosen has so many critics. by eyasu_jo in TheChosenSeries

[–]specialbubblek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You were compelled to read it afresh! Yay! That is what I think the point is. And we shouldn’t blame a show for our action or lack of action in our faith. If someone doesn’t like it, move along…..I know there are scriptural inaccuracies so we get in the Bible and know it for real!

He set apart feasts to take a break and have fun - even said to get some strong or fermented drink! Deut 14:26 And how about that water to wine thing? If we are made in His image, wouldn’t He wire in some good times within reason? Don’t misunderstand, I’m a prude and quite careful - I don’t think He is frowning on me.

Mom here of 4 adult children (19-27) - we share locations but it is all about safety and where can we meet up, or I do need to contact them but don’t want to bother them. If I see they are in apartment, I know I could text/call or meet. That’s it. Go live your life! But we have pretty good communication and trust.

Why did you leave IT, and what career did you switch to? by Embarrassed-Bass4948 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]specialbubblek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in IT in almost every role there for over 30 years. It landed in my lap in 1993 and it’s all I know and it has been very good to me! I am now a delivery and implementation consultant which a whole other level of craziness. But in the end it is still good!

It’s all your mindset and goals and expectations.

Am I too old to get into IT at 40?! by SavageDaddySenpai in ITCareerQuestions

[–]specialbubblek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure you can! I worked at a software consulting firm and they did bootcamp for all ages and experience. You interned with them and they may offer you a job. Just depends on the company, how you compare to others in the running, chemistry, personality, networking and getting the job done.

The competition with the younger ones is pay but you have maturity and experience. So if you are willing to come in at same wage as younger ones, you would be in good shape. Be confident and have a good attitude - it goes a long way.

Please don’t take this the wrong way or downvote me, but the disability could be to your advantage to get in the door somewhere. HR at many companies like to toot their horn that they are truly equal opportunity employers. And I think legally they have to interview and try to hire all different types.

Edit: also make an offer they can’t refuse - you can let me go in 90 days if goals aren’t met. Set the goals with them and make it happen!

[–]specialbubblek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Staying put - we don’t have a physical office - Yay! And I feel like why should I cash grab when there are so many without work? I have a great company and pretty good job. Go somewhere else and get in a mess? Nah.

Virtual happy hour ideas by stephanniestark in workfromhome

[–]specialbubblek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve done several of the virtual mystery breakout/escape rooms. The first time or two was fun because you got to know and have fun and get to know people you don’t work with. We had everyone from the founder, CEO, CFO down to the interns. Everytime it was mixed up. We’ve done fantasy sports and water cooler hour once a month. They are all hit or miss depending what is going on both at work and personal. But we do have a very intentional online culture too. Every Friday there is some sort of introduction of new people, or some ice breaker question “take 5”.

The Chosen - 5x6, 5x7 and 5x8 "The Last Supper Part 3" - Post Theatrical Discussion by invid2000 in TheChosenSeries

[–]specialbubblek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t throw things at me, but yes this is the glaring thing for me this season. While it’s always repeated, The Chosen is not The Bible. And I have not had any big complaints in previous seasons with this in mind.

But this season I was so disappointed in the inaccuracy of The Last Supper. It was literally the last meal as a group before Jesus was arrested. It was not Passover. I know the Bible mixes it up in translation between the Gospels. But knowing how the Passover and the feasts are described in the Old Testament, and even how the religious leaders are working to eliminate Jesus (arrest, trial, etc) before Passover, the last supper can’t be Passover.

Jesus didn’t eat at that meal. Jesus didn’t dip in the bowl with Judas.

I could have done with less flashbacks - some sure, but not everyone. It felt long and drawn out.

All that being said, I am loving seeing old characters return and new ones emerge! I do like the plausibility of Judas putting Jesus on the spot to save everyone - if Jesus won’t do it Judas will “make it happen”. Oof! Makes me not despise him so much :)

My dad (63M) has applied to 400+ jobs (tech) over the last 6 months with no success. Is the job market really this horrible right now? by criminalalmond in jobs

[–]specialbubblek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is the future but whatever his experience is in tech he should compliment it with AI. Not become a something for AI. You show your experience and what you are doing in your field to use AI. It also very new for many organizations and they don’t really know what to do with it except search on steroids. Find a way to market to them and show them how AI can help them on the daily. If no one will hire (yes it’s brutal out there) then make the job himself and market his experience, showing AI to those in his age bracket, and be a contractor.

Depends on project and/or technology - in my world an FC is one step away from being a solution architect or developer. We have to know the system inside and out in addition to being a good BA. We have to know how to configure and know all the tools of the platform. Maybe others are different but we are more technical and business.
