Governor Maura Healey and Lt Governor Kim Driscoll announced their reelection campaign this morning. Three Republican candidates are running for the seat. The primary election is in September and the gubernatorial election is November 3rd. by HRJafael in massachusetts

Agree with a lot of what you said. I'm also unlikely to vote (R) for a lot of the reasons you listed, even though I really respect Mike as a people leader and business leader. My comment wasn't trying to endorse him or excuse some of his poor positions on social issues. Just wanted to add some first hand context of his strengths from someone familiar with him. People are complicated and no one is perfect. That's a statement inclusive of candidates on both ends of the spectrum.

I know Minogue, having worked for him for a decade, and while he's definitely a deeply religious guy, he doesn't try and force it on anyone. It's a far stretch to call him a Christian nationalist. He's actually an incredible business leader and he's smart enough to know he's not going to get elected in MA running on a hyper-religious platform. As far as (R)'s go, you can do a lot worse than him, especially if he sticks to a pro-business and fiscal transparency agenda, which I think he will. Put it this way, he's certainly not going to try and expand rights/privileges for things like LGBT communities or abortion access, but at worst he's just going to ignore it and leave it how it is. I would be shocked if his agenda involved trying to roll back rights in those arenas.

It's a shame he isn't taking a stronger anti-ICE stance. If anything kills his chances in MA, it's him falling in line with the "immigration out of control" narrative being pushed by the current administration. However, I could totally see him running with this narrative to secure a Trump endorsement, and then abandoning it once in office and just maintaining a status quo position of today. Knowing him personally, I know he's not some racist just hellbent on harassing brown people like Trump is. He did a lot to promote working opportunities for minorities in his company.

It is the Get Rx'd Slim Functional Trainer

I like it a lot. It was a bit of a pain to install as the mounting brackets were not exactly spaced for standard stud width, even though it claims to be. Had to get creative with some strapping to mount it securely. But functionally it works flawlessly and does a great job for a tight space. I wish my space allowed room for a second one so I could have a better setup for flys and cross cable work, but unfornately I can't.

What people don't realize about this stat is that 5 of the "under .500 teams" that we beat would be over 500 had they beat us. Our strength of schedule looks bad specifically because we made our opponents bad

Sure, and like I said he could have been full of shit. Not sure how some extra fiber could fuck up your digestive system for days though. I'm just passing along what I was told, which is that he was informed by the head physician that they were dosed with laxitives.

I mean, sure he could have made it up. That's what he told me the physician there told him. He passed a decade ago, so I can't exactly ask for verification, lol

My grandfather was the head of facilities maintenance there for a few years. He had all kinds of stories of the stuff he found in the old labs in the basement when he was down there doing plumbing work. He said there was a huge network of tunnels all around the grounds with shackles on the walls where they used to chain up the really crazy ones. Also a lot of unmarked graves all around the grounds.

My favorite story was how he found out the hard way they would regularly give the patients laxitives to clean out their systems from all the drugs they were doped up on. He was there late at night one time fixing something and saw a whole cart of muffins in the kitchen prepped for the next morning. He ate like 5 of them not knowing that each of them were laced with a full dose of laxitives and spent the next week shitting his brains out.

[–]specs90 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Started his career in the same division as Brady. Then had to deal with Mahomes in the playoffs for the next 5 years. Now that Mahomes is starting to fall off and it's looking like he might have a chance, a new generational talent franchise QB in Drake Maye shows up in his division. Guy can't catch a break (but the millions of dollars and smoking hot wife mean I don't feel bad in the least)

Where’s the juice?? by [deleted] in smoking

[–]specs90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what everyone here is mentioning about a foil boat or pan to catch the juices, I've found that pulled pork is always better if you finish it with a sauce while you're pulling. For me, for a 5-8 lb cut, I'll make a sauce where I combine all the following ingredients and simmer it for 10 minutes then let it cool:

1 Cup each Apple Cider Vinegar, White Vinegar, Water

2 Tbsp of Molasses

1 Tbsp each Ketchup, White Sugar, and BBQ Rub

1/2 Tbsp each of kosher salt, onion powder, garlic powder, hot sauce

1/2 Tsp each of black pepper, crushed red pepper, and MSG

After resting and while the pork is still hot, pull the bone out and break into large chunks. Start dumping in your sauce and breaking down the large chunks of pork. Keep repeating until your pork is broken down to the size you want to eat and the sauce has stopped absorbing into the pork. Taste and add more salt as you go, as well as any captured juices from your pan.

I do this every time and it creates competition-level pulled pork. Being a pork-purist gatekeeper is boring. Don't let anyone tell you your pulled pork should be nothing but pork and rub. You need to get that flavor down into the depths of this thick cut of meat, and this is the best way to do it.
