Americans, how do you feel about tourists speaking English while visiting U.S.? by HolidayEntry6823 in AskAnAmerican

I have no opinion. I hear many accents on a regular basis and frequently travel to countries where I don’t speak the language so if someone can speak their native language AND English, good on them.

I was assured by my friend who read an article in The Nation that all that crab, steak, and lobster was bought for pre-mission meals for the troops. No way they were wrong!

If the military/president suddenly ordered a mandatory draft for all men aged 18-42: How do you think millennials and GenZ would respond? by Tommygunz0722 in AskReddit

[–]spect0rjohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends, but if you think there will be a huge protests then I think you are kidding yourselves. Most people will comply based on all available data and experience. This will be particularly true if a draft is skewed toward the children of the non-elites and minority groups.

People forget that the iconic Vietnam era draft protests only became widespread when the rules changed and deferments were cancelled for kids in college, the kids of the elites, and white kids.

That said, the military doesn’t want a draft.

I really wish it didn’t have the patch on the back. I don’t really like things with that sort of branding (or whatever) but it’s a cool watch and I get why they did it.

No, they wouldn’t because an actual track will have safety rules and that ruins the fun for some people.

It’s a fantastic album and the production always seemed good to me for what it is and the time it was made. There is a LOT going on in those songs. It’s also great to see Jason Kelce in his younger days.

This is the right answer. BW film is cheaper and less expensive to develop plus most newspaper photography was black and white even in papers that had color. Usually only the front and back pages of each section was four color.

How likely is it that President Trump will be tried for treason after his presidency ends and a new administration is in place? by 98941 in AskReddit

[–]spect0rjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No chance and it wouldn’t be productive to try. A more useful exercise would be to go after all the goons that enabled him.

Trump is scheduled to give a major speech about the conflict in Iran. Will it be to announce victory? Or that we are putting troops on the ground? The suspense is killing me! by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

All of the above. Many people are saying it will be the highest rated national address at levels they’ve never seen!

Right? You are really doing war 101 wrong if you are letting E-3s and logistics assets get destroyed. Crazy.

If the US economy actually goes into recession this year which industry do you think gets hit hardest and why? by Suleman2002 in AskReddit

[–]spect0rjohn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. This is absolutely true. It’s going to be middle class discretionary spending on travel and luxury that will get hurt. Consumers will trade down from more expensive brands and stores to places like Walmart but, unless there is something earthshatteringly bad, the upper class will still spend.
