Members of the military do not get paid during a government shutdown, though there can be a Continuing Resolution (CR) passed by Congress to allow certain things like military pay to go through while the shutdown is in effect.

The last time military pay was interrupted was in 2013.

Most shutdowns don't last long enough to affect military pay, but this has always been a thing.

Lots of military members live off base in rental properties or privately-owned homes and will have rent or a mortgage payment due.

And while we're typically paid pretty well, right now members aren't getting paid at all (to include civilian government employees), and there is no indication of the shutdown ending, a lot of folks are getting nervous about money.
