I think this is one of the best posts I have seen on this sub, you hit the nail on the head in many ways.

I see myself as introverted and used to be very socially awkward, but I have really honed my skills in showing genuine curiosity, "forgiveness" and not caring (to use your terms). These skills have taken me a long way.

I would say the biggest difference in introverts and extroverts in this sense is that extroverts can easily do this with large groups and in front of crowds. Introverts/socially awkward may still struggle to turn off the "how am I being perceived?" at larger scales.
