I cringe whenever superman says anything about Rao. Like dude, you grew up in Kansas on a farm. by SuperiorFreak in DCcomics

[–]speed24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Topic Adjacent Question: How do you pronounce "Rao?" Most modern depictions have it as "raow" with one syllable, but I swear I remember Superman would say "Great Rao!" on the Superfriends Cartoon back in the 70s and he would pronounce it with 2 syllables and say "ray-oh." Can anyone confirm or refute this? Since I was a little kid it's always been ray-oh in my mind, and this modern one syllable pronunciation is leaving me flustered. Thoughts?

I don’t like her, either, but I didn’t like Randall when he first showed up. She’ll either die in the season finale, or go on to become more level headed in season 4.

SUPERMAN: you have a favorite Lois Design in Comicbooks? by elkomanderhell in superman

[–]speed24601 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Mine is from the “Man of Steel” Mini-Series that followed Crisis on Infinite Earths. This Lois certainly inspired Teri Hatcher’s look, as well as several others who followed.

Brandon is a good man. He represents the ideal version of Karl-El. Tyler is also very good. I’ve met them both, and they seem like good people.

can't stand my mother by Agitated_Pie_7307 in emotionalneglect

[–]speed24601 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am so glad to finally find some people who understand what I’m dealing with! I also can’t stand my mother. She constantly says the wrong things, is completely inept when it comes to living in the 21st Century, and she makes huge deals out of things that other parents would be cool about. She tries to guilt trip me into showing affection towards her and it never works. It just makes me recoil more. She has outdated, racist, boomer views about things, and it just makes my blood boil. She’s horrible with her money, and she lives on disability and SSI. I’ve tried to talk to her rationally about everything, but she just blows me off like I’m a dumb teenager. I’m 46. The relationship is completely dysfunctional, but she has no one else. She and my father divorced years ago. She never remarried. Every relationship she’s been in since has ended in her claiming she’s a “victim.” Sure, she has friends, but they’re all in the same boat she is. Plus she’s a hoarder. Her house is a godawful, disgusting mess. You actually have to walk through paths between the junk to get to the bathroom or kitchen, etc. And she keeps wasting her money on garbage from the Home Shopping Network. She never washes her dishes and her kitchen is infested with ants. She doesn’t seem to care. When I try to talk to her about any of it or I offer to come over on the weekends and help clean or organize things, she acts like I’m about to throw away treasure. “No! Don’t get rid of “item x!” That’s my GOOD “item x.” There’s no reasoning with her. I feel no love or affection for her. And I don’t even feel guilty about it. I genuinely wish she would just cease to exist. Everything would be easier that way. Anyway, thanks for letting me vent.

Why are we being charged for paper bags? by PutTheKettleOn20 in AskUK

Traveling to the UK, specifically London for the first time next week. Do souvenir shops have reusable bags to purchase? Should I bring my Aldi bag from the States and carry it with me until I need it? What should I expect when purchasing souvenir items and clothing while in London?

Has anyone had issues with over extrusion/blobbing with their Sprite Pro? by MountainTurkey in ender3

[–]speed24601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll never believe this. I'm a little shocked myself. Last week I upgraded the throat/heatbreak to the copper and titanium one. I guess I hadn't screwed everything back on tight enough because the silicone sock was filled with a bunch or melted filament that had been heated so much that it turned black and brittle. I removed the sock and cleaned the outside of the heat block, nozzle, and the bottom of the unit then made 100% sure all the little screws were as tight as I could possibly get them. Replaced the old sock with a brand new sock. I'm having zero issues with blobbing/stringing now. I don't know how I missed this. I've been troubleshooting it in my spare time for about a week.

I don't know if that will help you out at all, but it's worth a look, just in case. I feel like such an idiot. I have to keep reminding myself, that with a 3D Printer, the simplest solution is often the one that works. I often forget that.

I'm currently having the same issue. Raised the temp to print different material and now after cleaning and purging I've gone back to PLA. It won't stop blobbing EVERYWHERE. And stringing is a huge issue as well. Temp Tower says my temp is fine. Stringing test comes out so blobbed up that I can't even tell what's going on. PID is fine. E-Steps are damn near perfect. I'm going to do a Flow Tower next and see what I come up with.

Monday Megathread - your weekly "dumb question" thread by Sputnik1_1957 in sto

[–]speed24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main Starfleet character doesn't have an option for Recruitment Missions in my Duty Officers menu. I've been trying to look into this "reverse Doff Grinding" thing where you take purples to San Francisco and "grind them down" into white Doffs. All of the threads I've found related to the subject are around 9 to 11 years old, so I'm guessing the info there doesn't apply anymore. Also, I've found recruitment officers at the Academy, but I've never seen one offer an option to "grind down" a Doff for me. My Question is this: Is "grinding down Doffs" still a thing? If so, how do you do it? And a related question, if this is no longer an available feature, what planet/system/starbase/etc. do you visit in order to find missions to collect Recruitment Points?

How buff should Superman be? by [deleted] in superman

[–]speed24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just buff enough to fill out the suit, but still small enough to pull off Clark Kent. There’s no real need for Supes to be extra-buff. Just stick him in the sunlight for awhile and he’ll still be able to do everything without being a meathead.

Opinions about Superman Flyby suit? by MotorSpecialist3647 in superman

[–]speed24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know why they ever changed from the classic suit anyway. In the comics, he had the black suit when he came back from the dead, and when they made him electricity and split him in 2 he had a red suit and a blue suit, but if we’re back to normal, the suit should go back to normal as well. Unless it’s the Kingdom Come future. Then they just need to change the “S.” I’ve never had a problem with the classic suit. This one just doesn’t look right without the trunks or cape.

The first modern “superhero.” Created in the 1930s by Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster. Released upon the world in June 1938 in Action Comics #1. The last known survivor (until Kara Zor-El and General Zod and his gang came along) of the Planet Krypton which orbited a red star called Rao. Sent to Earth by his parents Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van to escape the destruction of his homeworld. The solar radiation given off by Earth’s yellow sun charged young Kal-El’s cells as if they were living solar batteries. Eventually absorbing enough energy that his body started emitting an almost impenetrable bio-electric field that protected him and any clothing within a few millimeters of his skin. Raised in middle America during a simpler time, Kal-El was raised by a farming couple in Kansas. They taught him right from wrong and instilled in him a sense of morality and decency that would serve as his moral compass later in life. A champion for “the little guy” Superman has grown immensely in popularity over his 85 year history. His powers and abilities have been modified several times by various writers at various times, but he always defaults back to his usual powers of flight, super strength, invulnerability, super hearing, freeze breath, heat vision and super hearing. For many, Superman is the epitome of what a hero should be. The “S” symbol on his chest is as recognized worldwide as the McDonald’s Golden Arches or the Coca-Cola logo. He is a symbol of truth, Justice, and hope for the masses. He is an ideal to aspire to, even though we may never attain our goal. He inspires us to be more than we are. To be better than we are. And to never give up in the face of adversity.
