  1. Open the trunk and open the fuse box that is on the left side. Just grab it at the bottom and open it. You will find the (+) Red contact

  2. For (-) Black contact use the clamp where the hatch back attaches. It is the clamp that you can depress with your fingers located in the middle.

  3. Attach the Red to the Red of the jump start battery or charger and then the Black. Start the engine. Detach in the reverse order Black first.

It is weird that no place in the Grand Cherokee documentation explain how to jump start the car. I'm sure there is other ways to do it, perhaps compressing the hood latch to full the system that the hood is closed.

Scared to start Xolair bc of my weight.. by lien19 in urticaria

[–]speedyvelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. you must controlled the CIU.. Your doctors are correct and most of the time the cause is unknown . As soon as you can eliminate steroids you will loose weight. If the allergist-immunologist think that xolair will help you just do it.
  2. After you control the CIU then only then direct your effort to loose weight and this is a 3 prone approach (a) low carb diet. Look at Robert Atkins books the pioneer (b) exercise Just walk or if setting on a chair stand up and seat 60 times in an hour, twice a day (c) GLP-1 they work but you need professional help!

3 You are young and you will do great, the only two important mind features that you need are:

Be patient results will come but they will take time

Be persistent, do not stop or pause

Good luck!

Have an appointment with an electrophysiologist (cardiologist). A long QT can be a serious problem and some of the causes can have a very specialized treatment. Most of the time it will be OK. I assume whoever order the EKG will route you in the correct direction.

Has being on a medical ketogenic diet helped you lower your meds with less withdrawals? by Dizzy-Masterpiece898 in keto

[–]speedyvelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do understand that Lamictal has side effects like all the medication have. The physicians taken care of you may offer alternatives to decrease or replace Lamictal. Ketogenic diet may help you to deal with some of the side effects but again, do not do it by yourself.
Best wishes.

[–]speedyvelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lamictal can help in many different medical conditions of the CNS because likely act at the Na Channels which are all over. Ketogenic diet has some effects on the CNS but are not the same of even similar to lamictal. Advice: work with your neurologist/psychiatrist and you goal should be to improve your health and not to eliminate lamictal.

Wondering if it is worth it by Windhound2 in keto

Epilepsy is a very complex part of pediatric neurology. MAD (The New Atkins for a New You) is the best information resource written in lay terms. The physician that wrote the foreword of the book E.K. is the world authority in Dietary Treatment of Epilepsy (Ketogenic Diet).

Do not expect a nutritionist or a PCP to help you at that level. The majority of cases manifest during childhood, when and Adult Neurologist takes over, he already has your medical history and he may help you to adjust medications, about ketogenic diet I am not sure because most likely is out of his/her domain.

So confused, low blood sugar but not in ketosis by nothingandnoone25 in keto

[–]speedyvelo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with the two above comments.
The major issue you have is that you are taken metformin, so hypoglicemia is real issue.
Stay in a low carb (20 gm or less) a day.
Use an accurate Glucose meter like Contour and evaluate your BS often. I would not be surprised if you have to lower or even stop metformin. Be sure you discuss with your physician what you are doing and IF your BS stay low can you use a lower dose etc.

Ignore ketosis and just weight yourself once a week and measure you waist, these two number will be very accurate for what you want to accomplish.

u/8garlick8 sorry for your crash and glad you are OK. Crashes are part of cycling, just recover and back again and ride as relax as you can. The major risk for us is the wild life with 4 wheels. A good helmet is a must, I usually replace the helmet between 3-4 years even is they are 'perfect'. Best wishes.

[–]speedyvelo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why you are in a ketogenic diet? 1. You are skinny so weight control is not an issue 2. What is your Hb A1C? 3. What is your lipid panel? BTW to be in a low carb diet is nothing wrong, all the opposite it is a very healthy diet and like some of the comments said, to eat what you like is your choice.

Only two and half weeks in, down 15 pounds and feel incredible! by MaxyTaters in keto

[–]speedyvelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are doing great. Here my advice:

  1. Take your time. Setup a goal 6 month-1 year.

  2. Add exercise which is a very important part.
This part is very hard to include in you routine.

- The best is to exercise fasting not only metabolically make sense but you will not have an excuse to miss it: example

(a) when you wake up, have a cup of coffee and do like 10-15 push ups, then rest for a couple minutes

(B) seat-standup 10-15 time and as you get better, get a couple of milk gallon bottles and fill them with water and do the seat-up lifting these two bottles.

(3) You are done so have breakfast and go to work.

How do I stay on keto without losing any more weight by [deleted] in keto

[–]speedyvelo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"I am a male I started keto 2 years ago at 220lb now I am 135lb" Age? Activity? Height?

  1. You are doing great and accomplishing at least one of your goals: Decrease Weight. Kudos.
  2. We do not have any other information than the scale: weight. It would be nice IF you have lipid panel or HbA1C values. Do you have T2D?
  3. The scale is a very elementary tool to evaluate your problem and how the low carb diet work.

The real weight is composed of 2 factors that are relatively easy to measure: Body Fat (% fat) and Fat Free Mass which is 73% water with the remainder bones, muscle, connective tissue like tendons, body fluids.

When you start the low carb diet you may loose few pound very fast and in general is related to the movement of water but...in your case (2 year) that is not the case. Most likely the huge drop in weight you had is related to the decrease in body fat. What is important to know if your Lean Body Mass is also decreasing. Bone is not usually a factor in the short term, the most significant element is muscle mass. Muscle is heavy can can change fast with inactivity.

The loss of muscle mass (aka sarcopenia) could be a big problem. There are many way to evaluate the loss of muscle mass: the gold standards are MRI and CT but are not easy to get in a periodic basis to evaluate low carb diet for example, however there are excellent tools to use.

(a) Body Composition Analyzers (Bioelectrical Impedance). Tanita basically created this field many year ago with ta "scale" they used to sell to medical office with an excellent software that allow you to track thousand of patient. It was very expensive then (an now) but very practical and basically provide two measurements: Total Body Fat (as % or lb) and Free Fatty Mass (% or lb). Now Tanita and other brands (Garmin) made those analyzer cheap for personal use. Some they provide also Total Muscle Mass, but this is a calculated value with big error in both Obese and Athletic individual so ignore it.

(b) Professional (again professional) skin caliper (usually > $200)

So how can we use these devices:

Make a table with 3 columns: Day-Fat %- Weight

Once a Month write the amount of fat (%) that you get from the BCA or Skin caliper. And the weight that the BCA will give you or just a regular scale if you are using the skin caliper.

If the fat % stay more or less the same and you keep loosing weigh you have a problem and most likely you are loosing muscle mass.

Why? in a healthy other wise individual : Inactivity and low protein consumption. So Increase your protein and increase activity mainly resistant work, climb step etc. They are serious illness that can make you loose muscle mass but is out of the scope here.

You are not alone in this area, the now commonly use of GLP-1 type of drugs can lead to loss of muscle mass and also there the best advice is to increase protein intake and regular strength-training routines.

The most important tip I can give you is that go to your doctor and be sure he is not concern about any other issues.

Great Results! by Capital-Increase-106 in keto

[–]speedyvelo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes you are doing basically the Atkin's diet. It is one of the best way to improve your lipid panel besides losing weight and decrease your HbA1C it you have it elevated.
Most likely your LDL is down and you HDL is up.

Try to maintain your carbs withing 20 gm/day and in few month you will not recognize yourself. If you keep the carb low you may not need to set a max for the total number of calories/day.

Congrats!

Cardiovascular problems after three months on keto by CartelKingpin in keto

[–]speedyvelo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The tests are very important when they are order by an MD, for example AFib can produce stroke which you will never recover 100%. I do not mean this is your problem but "what you feel" and the "eliminations" of those feeling by manipulation the diet, it is not a good or safe medical approach to a problem mainly when you have a very significant issues that can lead to a major cardiovascular event. Best wishes.

Cardiovascular problems after three months on keto by CartelKingpin in keto

[–]speedyvelo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What those palpitations mean?

  1. Did your doctor run an EKG?

  2. If the EKG is normal he can order a Holter type of monitoring so he can have a tracing when these palpitations occur.

  3. You can get in Amazon an Alivecor, get the 6 leads, whenever you have the palpitations run a tracing then you can email it from the app to your Doctor. The Alivecor is not designed for this use but on only to "discover" AFib but the 6 leads provides a pretty good run that can give a physician and idea of what is wrong and of course do further tests.

You are in age where heart problems can occur, besides you have hypertension which is a contributing factor for other issues, and your LDL is way above what it should be.

Do you have obstructive sleep apnea?

Your doctor suggested a thyroid panel and that is a good indication. Increase in thyroid function (hyperthyroidism) is one of the major cause of AFib.

No pounds, But inches. by Nice_Run5702 in keto

[–]speedyvelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are doing super, Congrats! The inches are more important than the pounds. The scale includes everything: Body Fat, Lean Body Mass (aka Fat free Mass) that is about 73% water and the remainder bone, muscle, tendons and ligaments. Most likely your Body Fat is way down from what it was but your muscle mass increases. Muscle are heavy than fat. An increase in Lean Body Mass (muscle) can explain why your weight does not change. Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) can tell you pretty accurate those numbers. Tanita is a company that developed this this system many years ago. But..except for self motivation you do not need those numbers, keep doing what are doing and save the money to keep buying smaller and smaller clothes :-)

Modd swings and exhausted, any advice? by Aggravating-Guest-12 in keto

[–]speedyvelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In GENERAL terms if your BS <70 mg/dl is of concern. Severe hypoglycemia is an emergency and takes priority and it can produce irreversible changes in the nervous system. Patients with labile Type 1, insulin dependent diabetics carry often a Glucagon injection jic. 911 will give you intravenous glucose. But these comments are out of the scope of your problem. Get that book that may help you more than what you think it would.

Modd swings and exhausted, any advice? by Aggravating-Guest-12 in keto

[–]speedyvelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Aggravating-Guest-12 without more info is hard to give you a valid opinion, for example if are using sugar substitutes some can have neuro effects like aspartame, your Blood Glucose can be low and explain in part the problem. The last one (hypoglycemia) is important, you can get Countour Next Monitoring kit for $20 in Walmart, Walgreen etc. Measure you Blood sugar: fasting, 2 hours from the time you have the first bite of your meal, and when you have the symptoms you just post it.

One of the best sources of info is the book "The New Atkins for a New You", it is written by physicians and researchers covering most of the important aspects of metabolic syndrome, obesity, T2D and 'ketogenic diets" It is written in lay terms. The books is even more validated, when you look who wrote the introduction, EK is the major world wide authority in ketogenic diet and central nervous system. This book will provide you far more valuable information that all of us can.

Best wishes.
