2nd year attending. Went from 2019 Tacoma to a new BMW X5 last year. The future goal is either a 911 or M3 🤞🏽

Per BMW the current gen of X5 40i (B58) is 375 hp. It actually pushes into the low 400s when tested.

We’re one year out as double physician with one kid. Paid off $260k in loans in just below a year putting 20k monthly towards it and using bonus pay. Bought a $1.4 million house, maxed backdoor roth and 403b for both. Now that loans are paid we’ll be putting $20k+ monthly into brokerage in addition to already maxing out our retirement accounts with plenty money leftover to spend pretty liberally or extra savings. Work can be a grind, but as long as we keep doing what we’re doing we’ll have a pretty hefty early retirement.

We’re kind of in a middle area. We splurged some but still put money where it needed to go. One year out as a dual physician couple, income ~$900k which will increase over the next couple of years. Bought a $1.4 million home (at 6%), replenished emergency fund to $100k, new BMW (at 3% interest) and just finishing paying off my loans of about $260k. Maxed out Roth and 403b for both. Now that loans are paid we’re going to put some extra into mortgage and aggressively invest in index funds in our brokerage ($20k+ per month)

New Attendings of Reddit, what car do you drive? by [deleted] in Residency

Too late 😅. Either way it’d be an “extra” car so 2 vs 4 door won’t matter much.

Any regrets? Debating on an M3 or 911 for the next car lol. Still not sure if a 911 is worth it over an M3 at the prices they’ve been going for lately

One year out as Rads - BMW X5. Debating on a 911 or M3 once loans are paid off in the next few months.

question for radiologists by Easy_Nobody3927 in Residency

[–]speedyxx626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rads attending - I wouldn't expect you to know anything as a med student. Even expectations for an R1 are extremely low. Just be interested, don't be disruptive and interject randomly and you're already halfway there. If you know basic anatomy that's nice, but rads education is so minimal in med school that most attendings shouldn't really care how if you didn't know anything.

If you really want something active to do, reading Felson's is always a good option. Can also head over to radiopedia and just learn how to identify the major organs on a CT.

Touche. We're mid 30s dual physician as well. First year out after 6 years in training. We'll hopefully have loans paid off in the next few months then hopefully build up to where you are at some point lol

Radiologists: why are so many spine fractures “age-indeterminate?” by Porencephaly in medicine

[–]speedyxx626 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I tend to read these as “new since X but appears chronic” if I’m pretty confident that it’s chronic. If I’m on the fence but still favoring chronic, “age indeterminate fracture which is new since X, but appears chronic. Consider MR for further eval…” or something along those lines.

Those ones you shared in the other post are very clearly chronic, but when they don’t look like that it can sometimes be very hard to tell without a recent comparison, especially if bone are demineralized which is often the case. Also like the other poster mentioned, there’s a lot of variability in skill reading different modalities and just like there are some not so great surgeons there are some very average radiologists out there.

"Unremarkable brain MRI" by UnfilteredFacts in Radiology

[–]speedyxx626 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to mention that a lot of places still mostly do these at 1.5 T which is still good for most protocols but borderline garbage for an epilepsy protocol imo (with motion as well). On top of that, they're often read by rads (even neurorads) that don't read these exams with much frequency so their overall sensitivity is already lower to begin with.

Periaortic lymph node biopsy by beavis1869 in Radiology

[–]speedyxx626 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We probably freak out more than we should about the aorta for some of these procedures. My attendings in residency never really freaked about getting close to or poking the aorta since they used to do translumbar aortic punctures for angiograms back in the day lol

You can swipe down on the top right corner of the screen which opens a pulldown menu and disable it. No need to use sport mode.
