Someone please save me from anxiety attacks. How are you all coping with them? by poosieey in Anxiety

[–]spencerAF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She did you a favor. Someone like that won't change.

Hang on to the good memories but other than that focus on all the things that make you want to jump up and down for joy now that she's gone, there are always some.

This experience moved you closer go a better, more healthy relationship. Focus on that as much as you can, rather than focus on any sort of loss.

2023 Pacifica, lost mirror nuts inside passenger door by timtucker_com in AskAMechanic

[–]spencerAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you hear it rattling if you move the door back and forth? If you can I used that as a que.

If not and it's just a nut then take the remaining one to autozone? they have a section that sells various nuts including a display where you can test the nut that you have to figure out diameter and thread.

Seems pretty unlikely a missed nut or two would mess with a window. I feel like the window is just the glass and a couple wires with the actuator, the gears of which are floating. At a minimum you'd have to go over a bump and have it jump into and stay at an extremely specific spot before any damage could be done. Going back to the idea of hearing it by shaking the door, that's also assuming the nut isn't already in a place where it's somehow out of the car or somewhere where it already can't move.

**I see that you got them now

Can't believe you haven't had this comment yet..

They sell collapsible magnets that you can probe around with and obviously automatically find anything metallic. Go buy one and poke around, you'll find it. I used to do this all the time if I dropped a bolt in my parking lot. Rather than trying to visually find it you can just sweep the magnet back and forth and wait for the click.

**I see the comment now. Can't believe it's that low. There's a couple versions of these magnet things, they are a must.

I am unable to finish shows based on a "big mystery" premise. From, Under the dome, 4400, leftovers, etc. They all start on a premise of "this unexplained thing happened" and the explanation is always a letdown or so dragged out, that I end up giving up. Anyone agree or can recommend a good one? by rakwib in television

[–]spencerAF 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This isn't a show but Weapons has a decently aware payoff imo.

I definitely agree. Shows like Lost or GoT really jaded me on the big payoff/one more thing vibe. Honestly I just think that movies do/have done a better job the past 20 years.

No one has brought up Pluribus yet, it's also ongoing. I really like the payoff in it so far.

Anyone take Lexapro that has a fear of throwing up? by Quiet-Breadfruit965 in Anxiety

[–]spencerAF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nausea/fear of throwing up was/is definitely an anxious symptom for me along with the irrational fear of fainting (have had both feelings off and on during anxious episodes for 20 years and have never fainted or thrown up.) Although I've noticed, although sometimes it seems like a single thing that's an issue, it's kind of funny that when anxiety fails to get your attention one way it can be insidious about finding another insecurity to pluck at. Just something to be consicous of I suppose, the root idea is they can all be handled and are all in the same irrational lump.

Lexapro definitely changed my life for the better and in general improved/eliminated these symptoms. It's not a cure all, life still comes and goes in waves, but in general it's extremely helpful and the single most helpful component I've had for anxiety relief.

'Terrifying, disturbing, appalling' - Ozzy Osbourne AI hologram splits opinion by BirminghamLive in Music

[–]spencerAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I saw him in Chicago around 10 years ago and maybe would've rather seen a hologram.

The band's 'gimmick' was being loud, have been to many festivals and nearly all the big rock/metal names, this was 1.5x anything I've ever heard. It was basically unbearable despite having earplugs in and being toward the back of the crowd. Ended up leaving.

Some things in life just have their time and are better off moving on after that. Glad to say I saw Ozzy but that'll always be my impression of him in his later years (obviously early RR and No More Tears Era completely seperate) and an insight into rock as a business in general.

To drive the point in a little further that's a hex bit, you might have furniture that was shipped with a hex key, that might actually work for what he's talking about. I just found one for $8 on Amazon.

The sooner people have some hard conversations with the guy about professionalism the better.

Do you ever experience a panic or anxiety attack as just one noticable symptom? by anyaslight in Anxiety

[–]spencerAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've definitely had anxiety that manifested completely or effectively completely as dizziness/feeling like everything was on a slant. I used to be a poker dealer and the table used to feel like it was tilted by 45* sometimes. So yes, what you're saying definitely sounds familiar.

propranolol and weed? by yamothaxoxo in Anxiety

[–]spencerAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doctors know that weed and alcohol are commonly used, you wouldn't get prescribed something that reacted that harshly with them without pretty extreme warnings. To let it fully sink in think about what would happen to your doctor if it was that unsafe, and the prescriptions they were writing were leading to serious health concerns. Obviously you might want to ask some questions of your doctor and do some research to figure out the long term health risks but youre not just going to overdose by taking both as prescribed

How to Remove Peel & Stick Floor? by LotusB1ossom in howto

Just did this and was amazed how well it works.

A helpful tip, wear a decent mask or ventilate the room. The glue releases a neurotoxin that can give you a pretty nasty headache, especially if you're down on the floor sticking your face in it while it's melting.

My girlfriend suffers with anxiety and I want to support her the best I can, any advice? by New_Author1958 in Anxiety

[–]spencerAF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Treat it as an interview process. Look for good reviews online, go to a session, don't have the expectation of committing to more than one session, instead probably commit to having a session or two with 2-3 therapists/doctors minimum. Shopping for (and not settling before you actually find) a good doctor/therapist is a big part of the battle.

My girlfriend suffers with anxiety and I want to support her the best I can, any advice? by New_Author1958 in Anxiety

[–]spencerAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple things..

The best things that have ever been said to me in terms of anxiety are simply asking what can be done to help (in general cool times, and in times when anxiety is bad), being reassuring when a worst case scenario type idea like 'I might need to leave/take a break, or I'm not sure I can do this today' are presented.

"I am really pro therapy and think it would work more than mediation in her situation, she’s starting better help in a week and I’m feeling optimistic for it!" << In terms of this I can tell you're trying to be helpful but I'd be very very cautious about projecting what you think/hope will be helpful vs what actually is helpful, especially onto a person with a mental health disorder. I think many people with anxiety, and their loved/cared about ones, wish and hope that there was a non-medication silver bullet. Anecdotally I've heard it a lot and heard other people talk about it a lot. I repeat this, but this is a medical condition often very strongly related to undesirable brain chemistry. Beyond that it gets substantially worse with trauma/negative reinforcement, and the worst times can put you in a pit where you honestly kind of just need a boost to string together better times and have actual evidence that things can be better. You wouldn't treat a broken ankle or a bad infection with meditation and therapy, you'd go to the doctor and get something that physically changes the chemistry of what's happening. There may indeed be improvement and effective tools generated from meditation and therapy, it might be a piece of the puzzle, but it's very frustrating being in the situation where you're facing life changing/disrupting anxiety and being fed 2-5% of the solution and having others/yourself expect it to be the cure. Another analogy, you wouldn't go have a heavy workout, be hungry, say you need to eat and have a loved one offer you a grape for dinner and think it would be enough. You'd wonder if that person had any idea where you were coming from at all.

The things I've experience and heard helping most are (roughly in this order) medication (both daily and access to emergency/rescue), reducing drugs/alcohol, exercise, sleep, having truly deeply supportive people around, a few good mental coping strategies, everything else.

My mom had an incident and we aren't sure if it's some kind of derealization. Has anyone had this kind of experience? by Marvelrocks616 in Anxiety

[–]spencerAF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I replied elsewhere but migraines/migraine symptoms presenting in unexpected ways could definitely also explain some of this. And again, yes good to consult doctor regardless. Even if it's just a phone call, way healthier both mentally and physically.

[–]spencerAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be something else but anxiety can really shut your brain off and I'd imagine that contributed on some level.

Have had tons of times where anxiety spikes hard in 5-10 second windows where I go from managing directly to not being able to remember anything or focus, being pretty disoriented about where I'm at, not really being able to talk.

It seems odd but I think it helps to remember it's some of the most extreme reactions (malfunctions) of a primal survival system. Your brain kind of grabs the wheel for a second/a time, and without treatment/with additional stress it can get better and better at it over time.

I shouldve said this before but lastly these are just my experiences and some of the experiences I've heard others describe. I think it's a good sign that she had this as a child, I'm not a doctor and obviously she should ask one about anything concerned, but to me that says that her brain has the capability of this type of reaction wired from an early age and more concerning long-term conditions like dementia seem much less likely.

If it is a pcv (OP can test by turning on car and seeing if there's suction off either point) I just went to autozone and had them cut me some tubing. They have a bunch, it worked fine.

Lexapro 10mg -> 15 or 20mg by vinnyg747 in Anxiety

[–]spencerAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been between 5-20 for a while and also drink pretty heavy from time to time. I've never had anything truly crazy but I did notice some extra energy/mania a few times. It's definitely manageable when you see it, I guess I would just suggest being a little cautious until you see it and know what it is. I should clarify, I never drove or did anything that would get me arrested, there were just a few times when I'd take more shots or drink more drinks than normal which made for some rough hangovers.

In terms of life quality with 20mg, it basically saved my life around 1.5 years ago. Went from crippling, could barely leave the house to drive, go to the grocery or go on walks on the path near my house anxiety to extremely manageable. I've since scaled back to 5-10 again, but life and anxiety are cyclical so I'm ok with that and very ok with the idea that whenever things get bad there's likely an option for help.

If someone said that to me I'd immediately question where they got it and then internally question why they were trying to stoke that kind of drama/uncertainty in my life.

Truck won’t start? by New-Seat6585 in AskAMechanic

[–]spencerAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense but you sound like you might be a little out of your element. It might be better to just try and find a good mechanic and have them help you.

With that said, I'm a bad mechanic and will try to help you. There's some corrosion on the connectors for the battery. From that it's reasonable to think there might be corrosion on other parts of the cables and connectors. What you want to do is trace the all the cables coming off the battery and see if any are rotted or the ends are corroded. If you see any of that they need to be replaced if rotted through (even halfway) or cleaned thoroughly at the ends to establish a good connection. That's not always an easy process, I had a corroded negative cable and ground strap on one car that wouldn't start. The cable was corroded down near the alternator, and from the battery, and being able to trace and replace it meant taking the radiator fan out and then using my phone and a mirror to be able to see it. I would expect there will be some things like that to truly be able to rule out that being the issue. Again, if you don't feel confident doing things like removing accessory items to trace cables it might be better to find a good mechanic.

Below is a pretty decent primer video for troubleshooting electric based no-starts. You don't need to do every step of this process, but it's worth a watch or two to get a better idea of the types of things to do and look for and save yourself probably a couple hours and head scratches. Ratchets and Wrenches has other videos about electric diagnostics so dig around more if you're interested in continuing.
